It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I don't NEED to get it done but i'd like to get my bedroom decorated before christmas. It's been the same bland shade of blue for 10 years now and its really boring. It needs some nice wallpaper and a new carpet down but obviously I need to sort out christmas presents first.

Just commenced sanding my dark wood staircase banister complete with twirly spindles as I want to get it back to a paler wood colour. The dust is thick, but the wood is coming up lovely. Not sure how long the sander will last though as it seems to be getting warm!

The dog's eaten the wall. Ok, not the entire wall, but enough so that it's noticeable. There are deeply grooved tooth marks at dog height, and we're currently debating whether a lick of paint will fix it enough for Christmas. Probably not to be fair - they'd just be white grooves instead of plaster grooves. Can't really afford to have the wall skimmed, so need some pollyfilla type product to fill it.

It may not go well!

Install a light in the porch having had 5 years of darkness. Paint over the fried egg our 2 year old drew on the landing wall. Fix the leaking gutter. The list is endless.

Decorating. we have people coming for christmas and various patches in the house need painting due to the joy of a black labrador, Also we have just had a new boiler fitter and its smaller than the old one and has resulted in a small gap which will need to be fixed / hidden

Cailin7 · 22/10/2017 19:54

our living room badly needs redecorated and some new blinds

twinklenic · 22/10/2017 20:11

We usually paint the living room each year before christmas , and a big clear out .

frances93 · 22/10/2017 20:17

We really need to regloss our skirting boards but even the thought of it gives me a bad head Sad
My diy challenge for Christmas is boxing in the pipes round our boiler and tiling over it

RiSo · 22/10/2017 20:17

Pretty much every room! The only room that doesn't need doing is our eldest son's room as that was done in the summer. The bathroom ceiling is next on the list though, and that WILL be done this week. Hopefully!

arat · 22/10/2017 20:19

Our challenge is to get rid of the damp in the en suite. Hoping to get the walls/ceiling repainted by Xmas, but whether that sorts it remains to be seen.

thejoroberts · 22/10/2017 20:31

I desperately need to get rid of the mould in my bathroom....I'm sure Bunnings will have something to help!

tia3456 · 22/10/2017 20:54

I need to repaint some walls that were re-plastered 2 years ago, I bonded them before painting but in a few places the paint is peeling and flaking, do I just re-bond these areas, don't want it happening again, and if so which bond solution is the best

emmav6 · 22/10/2017 20:55

we have taken the old wooden boards covering our old stairs spindles. I would love to either get all the rails/spindlesreplaced or rubbed down and stained/painted in time for christmas so i can have a beautiful garland wrapped wound them but not a clue where to start!

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/10/2017 21:01

Our local Bunnings opened last weekend. DH has already been in and hired a Rug Doctor. The next job is to repaint the skirtings and other woodwork. We cheap and use an acrylic paint.

Theimpossiblegirl · 22/10/2017 21:02

*We cheat not we cheap
(although we do like a bargain)

Noofly · 22/10/2017 21:08

New interior doors. The dog has scratched most of our downstairs ones to bits!

pfcpompeysarah · 22/10/2017 21:12

Our house hasn't been painted since we moved in and the walls were lovely and cream coloured... now, not so much, there are so many scuff marks and hand prints thanks to my son over the years and it all needs a good makeover. The problem is once you start one thing it makes the rest look tatty!!

Spices001 · 22/10/2017 21:32

I must finish the stairs! Ashamed to say its 12 months since I started decorating them...

starlight36 · 22/10/2017 21:43

Like others I would love to get rid of mould on the grouting and sealant in the bathroom. Is it really a card of completely replacing sealant each time?

K3rry · 22/10/2017 21:46

my bathroom is half ripped out waiting to done due to us being let down, after 8 weeks like this i am really hoping it will be done for christmas

kittykomp · 22/10/2017 21:56

painting the living room

cozza777 · 22/10/2017 22:04

I would really like to decorate our bedroom as as with most things the kids come first so there rooms look amazing whereas ours looks a little shabby and not the chic kind to say the least!

lhlee62 · 22/10/2017 22:12

We need a new boiler, the shower is leaking, the outside of the house needs painting and the kitchen cupboard doors need replacing

lynsmagoo · 22/10/2017 22:14

We have only moved into our new house a few months ago and have so much to do as it's an older house which was owned by an elderly couple before us. We are about half way through renovating now. Before Christmas I would love to have our kitchen almost complete. We have painted the units and want to change the worktop and tiles (it's a horrible green colour!). Plus we still haven't got a kitchen table! We were hoping to host Christmas dinner this year. my mum is very ill and has been in and out of hospital for the past year so I want to take the pressure of the parents as they normally host it every year! A table is the priority!!

xcxcsophiexcxc · 22/10/2017 22:22

I'd really like to repaint the living room , the whole place is bland with white walls
