It may only be October but Christmas is fast approaching and many of us are already planning for the holiday by thinking about presents, food, and decorations. As well as decking out our home with baubles, Christmas time is also a nudge to get all those niggly DIY home improvements done. Bunnings would like to find out which DIY tasks you’d like to complete before Christmas and any advice you would like for doing them. They will then pick the most popular DIY challenge and create a video of tips and tricks for doing it. We will be sharing this video on another thread in a few weeks time, so keep an eye out!

Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom, put up some new shelving, or give your lounge a new lick of paint, please share your Christmas DIY challenges below and you will be entered into a prize draw to win a £200 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Event - RECRUITMENT NOW CLOSED

Bunnings, the new store for home improvement is having a Grand Opening celebration on the 4th November and would like to recruit 10 Mumsnetters (and their partners/ families if they want to bring them along) to come along to the grand opening and check out the store. All participants will be given a £20 Bunnings voucher on the day and will be required to leave their feedback on a thread on Mumsnet. If you can share an image or post of the event on Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram as well that would be great! You can enjoy face painting, balloon modelling and even join Peppa Pig and George for a story time session. Activities are between 11am - 3pm, see bunnings.co.uk/our-stores/harlow for details.

If you’re interested in taking part, sign up here. All event attendees that leave their feedback on the feedback thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £100 voucher of your choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

The hallway because of its heavy use. The walls get scuffed when the kids run about (in and out of the house), when I come in with all the shopping bags and knock the walls.

Hall stairs and landing are in desperate need of a coat of paint it looks dreadful!

madge47 · 22/10/2017 16:03

Need to redecorate the bathroom and new carpets needed in the living room and main bedroom

andywedge · 22/10/2017 16:10

The bathroom is desperate for a make over

MimiJoy · 22/10/2017 16:11

For the last 10 years, our front lounge has been our "junk room" (i.e. a dumping ground!). We've recently had new windows, are having a fireplace and surround fitted in 2 weeks and hope to decorate and furnish it before Christmas. The count-down begins .... x

Sezza110 · 22/10/2017 16:11

Need to repaint the bathroom because I only gave it one coat with the intention of doing another coat the next day. 3 years later, I still haven't done it.

vonniebab2 · 22/10/2017 16:26

The bathroom needs a complete makeover the shower is leaking, water is seeping through the kitchen ceiling (another job) the tiles are old and the shower is also on its last legs, the plan is to completely strip the bathroom and start again!

maryandbuzz1 · 22/10/2017 16:38

We have begun to do up our living room but still have to decide on a colour for the walls and make some
curtains so we have allocated some time over the Christmas period to get it finished. We have probably done things in the wrong order as we have the suite and rug!

happysouls · 22/10/2017 17:04

The wallpaper is hanging off the ceiling and has been stuck back up so many times it is having to come off now as it won't stick...it is hiding big cracks so we have been burying our heads in the sand and putting this off as long as possible! The time has come....

APJ1 · 22/10/2017 17:15

Putting up new curtains.

barbsbarbs · 22/10/2017 17:16

firstly this store will be just around the corner from me and I cant wait.! My christmas DIY problems are the fact that our living room is not decorated, we have no table and the settee is on its way out. I just want it ti feel cosy, so I will visit Bunnings o and find out the best way of decorating quickly and cheaply.

mo3733 · 22/10/2017 17:21

i would really like to revamp my bathroom floor. old linoleum that has seen better times

MAForster · 22/10/2017 17:24

Replacing the cracked sink in the bathroom!

pinkjjf27 · 22/10/2017 17:42

I am mostly up to dated but last week i stupidly caught my oven on fire and made a black mess while most of it wiped off i did rather ruin the tile splash back so i would like to re-tile or buy tile transfers. Also my shed door could do with protecting from the weather..

Marg2k8 · 22/10/2017 17:42

The towel rail in the bathroom needs sorting.

footdust · 22/10/2017 18:05

Need to spruce up the living room with fresh paint, and get decent curtains.

littleme96 · 22/10/2017 18:09

I really want my hallway skimmed and spotlights put in there and the kitchen. However I have been saying this every Autumn since we moved here - maybe this will be the year it actually happens!

meepmoop79 · 22/10/2017 18:12

I think i might have left it to late, but the front of the house is badly in need or repainting. And the bathroom. And the hallways. And the kitchen. The list seems endless...

sc00ter · 22/10/2017 18:18

I would love to replace all the interior doors to pine ones, with new handles and have them all stained and varnished. :)

feefeegabor · 22/10/2017 18:19

My teenager wants her bedroom decorated before Christmas so we have just started on that. We are painting it blue and she wants a new carpet and a new dressing table. Great!

ang65t · 22/10/2017 18:20

My living room needs decorating badly and every year for the last 5 years I say I want a new stair carpet in time for christmas but never get around to it if only I had time!

juju3 · 22/10/2017 18:25

Need to paint the non upvc bits of the outside of the house

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 22/10/2017 18:37

I need to paint one of walls in my bedroom. I will be going from a dark chocolate colour to a very light taupe so i am a bit apprehensive about doing 10 coats to get the desired colour!

itsali · 22/10/2017 18:49

I'd like to refresh the bedroom and the furniture.

Catmadroo · 22/10/2017 18:58

My bedroom defiantly needs some diy what with wood chip walls, broken wardrobe and thinnest carpet that doesn't even fit! but storage solutions for my sons bedroom what with Christmas coming would probably be more practical lol!
