It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Hmm this is a difficult one!

It's a toss up between my fridge freezer or my iPad

I have mobility issues which mean sometimes quite often I'm stuck in the house or if I can get out I'm in a big amount of pain so things that help me are massively important to me.

My iPad is everything, it is my photo album, my book, my notebook my window to the world but also my access and contact to the world. I email friends, mumsnet Grin I order my food and clothes etc. I use it to learn things, knitting, sewing to name but two! And lots more not only that but I do it all on a machine that is small enough to hold in my hand and carry even when I'm using my stick so if I'm stuck in bed or in too much pain to get off the couch for a time that is fine because I have all the above lists of things to keep me company!

The fridgefreezer is very important too. I can't get out to buy food everyday so this miraculous machine helps me to eat healthy. I can eat fresh meals that are kept fresh. On my good days I can prepare a meal and put a portion in the freezer so on a bad day all I need to do is pull it out the freezer and Iv can eat that day. The knowledge and more importantly the feelings of safety and comfort that I will never be without food is bigger than I can express.

If I'd lived 50 odd years ago before these items were used my life would be much much worse, the bottom line is I'd be isolated and hungry.

My food processor probably. (Assuming we're not counting obvious stuff like freezers or mobiles?)

We eat absolutely shitloads a fair quantity of garlic, onion, chilli, ginger etc. Every so often we buy in bulk, use the FP to chop it up and then freeze it. Grab as much as needed and throw it straight in the pan!

Not having to do it for every single meal has been a revelation!

Well if i had to choose from every single electrical item it would have to be my fridge. If the essentials are excluded I would choose my slow cooker. I use it loads - it saves time, money and produces lovely food.

Caillou · 10/11/2017 16:36

I think it would be my phone charger as I need it daily

itusedtobeverydifferent · 10/11/2017 16:48

My oven! Does that count?

PencilsInSpace · 10/11/2017 16:49

My vape Grin

ElizaDontlittle · 10/11/2017 17:03

A difficult one - probably my phone. It has the kindle app on, it makes me feel connected with the world and it has my music on. Embarrassing to admit but it's true. I'd shop daily/ cook over a barbecue if I could keep my phone!

Jayjayharrychops · 10/11/2017 17:19

Would definitely be my phone so I could keep in touch with family and friends x

ButterflyOfFreedom · 10/11/2017 17:34

Hmm, tricky!

The ones I use every day are TV, phone charger, straighteners and the kettle!

I think I'll go for phone charger- I'd be a bit lost without my phone.

Halebeke425 · 10/11/2017 17:37

Hmmm... Have to say I love my Henry hoover he makes hoovering so much easier (enjoyable even?!) without him I'd be lost!!

Monkeypuzzle32 · 10/11/2017 17:40

My hair drier! There isn't really a good alternative, I live my laptop but I think I could live without it if need be-not so sure about my hairdryer though.

UpOnDown · 10/11/2017 17:48

Definitely my laptop

CheeseEMouse · 10/11/2017 18:10

My washing machine. I can't imagine having to do all the washing we generate by hand!

maclinks · 10/11/2017 18:14

My tablet, go to it for catching up on facebook with friends, keeping up to date on the news, traffic, weather, looking up childcare advice, recipes, facetiming the children and shopping online, watching programmes on catch up and reading books.

MoreProseccoNow · 10/11/2017 18:20

Probably my iPhone. It has my life in it.

But I do covet a cordless Dyson; I live in a 3-story townhouse & have an ancient cylinder Dyson. I think my life would be so much easier if I had a cordless......

Trurouge · 10/11/2017 18:32

If we were including essential items I would have to say my washing machine as it is only daily at least once.

If we're only looking at none essentials I really couldn't live with my dishwasher (well I could but it would not be worth living as I would be permanently standing at the sink)

Mountainash · 10/11/2017 18:45

It has to be the fridgefreezer. Food keeps fresh and it saves having to shop nearly everyday. The freezer is very handy, although not a necessity. I remember, as a small child, my parents standing bottles of milk in a bucket filled with cold water. It was a nightmare trying to keep meat and milk fresh.

smileyfacechocolatebutton · 10/11/2017 18:45

My essential item I couldn’t get by without would be the washing machine, my son loves playing outside and creates mountains of muddy washing every day!

My luxury electrical item would definitely be my phone, from internet shopping, to checking the weather, mumsnet, emails... what I do with all those extra hours in the day without it! 😊

ShatnersBassoon · 10/11/2017 18:49

Washing machine. It's truly liberating and my life would be miserable without it. Imagine having to do all the laundry manually Shock

TorNayDoh · 10/11/2017 18:53

Washing machine or laptop... I'd probably have to go laptop, as the washing machine is hugely useful but only at doing one thing.

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2017 18:56

Washing machine for me, without a doubt. It is genuinely an invention that helped liberate women.

elizaco · 10/11/2017 18:59

This is harder to answer than I thought! Kettle, washing machine or laptop - I can't decide!

MrsFrTedCrilly · 10/11/2017 19:21

Toss up between my iPhone and my kettle. My blood group is tea positive Grin

Justchillaxing · 10/11/2017 20:32

I guess if we're talking absolute essentials I couldn't do without my fridge freezer. I can't imagine not being able to keep food cool so that it keeps longer. After that it would be my washing machine. I'd hate to wash everything by hand!

purplepandas · 10/11/2017 20:35

Cloud nine hair straighteners.
