It’s hard to believe that there was once a time when all our gadgets didn’t exist and people had to live without modern essentials such as a washing machine Shock! Co-op Electrical would like to find out which electrical item you couldn’t live without, whether it’s one that helps with everyday life or a luxury item.

Here’s what Co-op Electrical has to say: “Electrical items are now so much a part of our lives that it’s easy to take them for granted. But we know that when our customers need a new washing machine, cooker or fridge-freezer, they need it quickly, which is why we offer next day delivery to most parts of the UK. Even a few days without a ‘luxury’ item like a TV or tablet can feel tough!"

Would you be lost without your laptop? Or is your TV precious to you as it can keep the DC occupied and allow you to watch Strictly Glitterball? Would you fail to function without your coffee machine? Or maybe your fancy straighteners are a necessity to battle frizz?

Whatever electrical item you would feel lost without, please share it below. Everyone who posts on the thread will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

Definitely the phone, used for making shopping list, then doing that shopping. Contact with family, weather, train times and ticket, music, books, podcasts, news, kids photos, calendar for appointments, alarm clock and alerts - my whole life involves the usage if phone. Phone, gas/electric paid on the app on the phone !!!!

I am gobsmacked that so many people are picking trivial things that have no impact at all on the important things in life

  • food
  • warmth

everything else is a luxury

My cordless Dyson. Absolutely love it, it's used multiple times a day!

I don’t believe that these answers are actually going to be held on file and used to determine the allocation of electrical equipment come the Zombie Apocalypse Ta1kinPeece. If they are then MN should come back and warn us properly so people who’ve chosen Roombas can reconsider.

Washing machine, closely followed by the dishwasher. Just couldn't imagine how long it would take to sort out all our stuff otherwise.
On a personal note my hair straighteners. The only thing I've been out to replace the very same day when they went to GHD heaven.

We've recently moved house and a few weeks later we only just have the internet. Missed using my iPad and Laptop lots but not essential I guess. Not having a dishwasher is rubbish though! Life without a washing machine would be unthinkable.

We are currently without a kitchen and I can definitely say that lack of washing machine has been the most diffiult thing to deal with. It's been a nightmare knowing that if any unexpected messes occurred I can't wash things easily. I've done a few things by hand but they take so long to dry. I feel very lucky to have good friends and neighbours who've helped out!

My iPad hands down. It means I can work from home or anywhere else I choose. It keeps the kids quiet in restaurants and can generally end tantrums by offering to let them play with it. I can watch programmes on it via sky go, surf the internet and read magazines. I also use it for an online course I’m currently doing on literature and mental health.

Tricky. I really need the cooker and freezer with four kids but...with an asd child who spent a year out of school and having gone through the horrific battle for ehcp I have to say the wifi! Without it I would have meltdowns galore, and that's just me Grin
But seriously it's allowed me to access help and support is never have had without the Internet. Truly a life saver. So the wifi it is.

My hoover. Mine broke last year and it took me months to save for a new one. Sweeping the carpets and borrowing one from. Friends and family just isn't the same.as having your own!

Kettle, I thought about the phone, tablet, pc but I can't function on them without my brew or a coffee so kettle all the way

I've lived more basic lifestyles when travelling so I'm going to go for a kettle. It's nice to be able to make your own coffee first thing in the morning while still in pyjamas (rather than getting dressed to go and find one).

My dishwasher. Our old one broke earlier this year, and it was a loooong two weeks before the new one arrived!

when my washing machine broke it was a nightmare but to be honest it’s liveable with favours from family

i would be in a bad place without a kettle for my much needed brus or a fridge freezer

If anything it would have to be a radio, because I can wash by hand, cook on an open fire, let my hair dry naturally but I can't play ANY musical instruments. A life without music would be very sad indeed.

My stick blender, it's great for hiding vegetables in soups, pasta sauce etc. I much prefer it to my blender because I don't have to take out of pan to blend so washing up is easier

Hard call! My mp3 i think, I'm out walking MipHound every day, usually the same route, and it can be the only thing to keep me sane. Although saying that I'm not sure I could give up my phone, my tablet, my fridge, electric lighting, my boiler (uses electricity), my TV, my slow cooker......
