Help with a name for my HR consultancy please

I'm a freelance HR consultant and have so far used my name as my business name but I don't love it.

I feel like I can't see the wood for the trees and would appreciate some outside perspective.

In terms of what I do, I work with SMEs to help the owners/Directors get the best from their people. Things like communication, motivation, engagement, development, productivity, succession planning, managing change and generally act as a sounding board. Being proactive to create the best environment/culture so employees can thrive.

I don't get involved in recruitment or disciplinaries.

Grateful for some inspiration.

See what I mean about something short that you can do a basic logo for?

Do you think people will get it @itsgettingweird?

I really cannot express how much I should not be here with my no gcses so I'm really just gegging in here, but I find short and simple is key with a brand.

I like words small words with a punchy tag line, so I'd be tempted to have the line sorted first.

So from the words you used this is my crack at this

Rise
Achieving High Performance

I'm going to use that as an eg but it'll work well with a logo iyswim?

I like you being here @Lwrenagain.

I love Rise and Maya Angelou but it’s the name of a domestic violence charity.

@PiningForTheMoon download canva, it's free to play around with and a tenner a month to remove water marks etc and a previous poster said, you can get your brand colours all sorted then.
It'll take you a few mins to get the hang of it and seconds to make some different logos, then I'd choose the one that feel right, the one that you'd pick if searching for you.

I'm not great at it but I'll help in any way I can 😁

Believe me @Lwrenagain, I’ve tried. I just can’t…

Just let me know what names/lines you want and I'll have a crack for you pal!

bryceQ · 28/10/2023 19:35

It's worth practicing Canva as you'll likely use it for proposal documents, presentation decks, LinkedIn posts etc. It's highly recommended for running a business (I run a marketing consultancy)

Thanks @Lwrenagain, just got the teeny task of choosing a bloody name now!

I’ve had a play with it @bryceQ, just need some pointers.

There are tons of YouTube tutorials or follow Canva experts on instagram. It's mostly just practice and consistency

I’ve saved a link for a tutorial, it’s on my list for next week.

In the meantime, how about ‘Positive Mindset People Consultancy’?

Unfortunately companies house is full of similar names. Should have checked there first…

Your company house name doesn't need to be the same, on invoices you just write registered company and trading as. It's fine I do this for me as I have two branches

Aha! That gives me some room to play with.

I managed to get some template PowerPoint presentations, then I combined the bits I liked from various ones to make a set of graphical templates for e.g. process flows etc. Added a new colour scheme to office in my business' colour ways (I actually have several depending on the circumstances) and then the whole thing is up and running in corporate colours. It's not canva but it looks smart and 10x more professional than the bog standard bullet points etc.

I still occasionally use an online tool (I use visme rather than canva) but for my day to day stuff I find the 3 hour investment into a really smart deck very worthwhile.

I love a process map @Papillon23. Where might one acquire such templates?

Honestly? It sounds awful. You seem to be coming up with very wordy ideas but you need to keep it short and memorable.

I suggest you go back to defining what you do, really narrow down your USP and then I think a name will come out of that.

Yeah, it’s definitely too long @zurala. I’m struggling to find something that is short, relevant but hasn’t already been taken.

I’ve seen a spate the last few years of hr people having the word talent in their titles, so…

Talent development consultants
Talent champions

friendlycat · 28/10/2023 22:52

Honestly. I think you’re just trying to be too “clever”. I personally don’t like the name “curl up and die” for the hairdresser. There are many of them!

Professionalism is key here. You’re selling a professional service with what I assume are going to be weighty fees. Quirky clever witty puns are best left to the advertising bods.

Use the strap line to encompass your “brand” beneath your name. In my view that’s the most professional approach.

I’m not necessarily advocating this strapline but play with that so you have your professional name and then the strapline

J Flanders HR Consulting
Realising Potential in People

Lawyers, Accountants, Surveyors etc don’t try to be witty etc. they are all offering a service that’s professional with fees to match. You want to portray yourself as a professional outfit not a quirky ad agency style start up.

Would you be bowled over at an accountant marketing themselves as

The £ in your pocket
or
K Boland Accountancy
Tax and Accounting Specialist
Helping to grow your business.

friendlycat · 28/10/2023 22:55

Sorry meant. “Curl up and dye”. !

topcat2014 · 28/10/2023 23:00

Pick two surnames you like and add them together. Try to make it not like a one person business.
