Help with a name for my HR consultancy please

PiningForTheMoon · 18/10/2023 14:34

I'm a freelance HR consultant and have so far used my name as my business name but I don't love it.

I feel like I can't see the wood for the trees and would appreciate some outside perspective.

In terms of what I do, I work with SMEs to help the owners/Directors get the best from their people. Things like communication, motivation, engagement, development, productivity, succession planning, managing change and generally act as a sounding board. Being proactive to create the best environment/culture so employees can thrive.

I don't get involved in recruitment or disciplinaries.

Grateful for some inspiration.

Also OP having looked through a few pages of results the person's name is easiest to remember. There are things like 'Korn Ferry' (they do other stuff too but the name is quite unusual) compared to the rest which sound quite generic. Even 'blue beyond consulting' what does that even mean?

None of these particularly stand out to me.
I've worked with this person before

Emilie West, but again I just remembered her name! Alchemy consulting sounds quite meh.

People, power, whatever, there are so many things with these names I don't think you're going to stand out.

If you dislike your name - I'd suggest using a pseudonym.

PiningForTheMoon · 28/10/2023 17:01

Lots of small HR consultants use their names or initials @ArborealArdour but I also know: Orchid HR, Hummingbird HR, Hive HR, Orbweaver HR, Harbour HR…

In terms of how someone would find me, currently via LinkedIn or Google Business Pages. I have no idea what they would search for, I’m going to try the site PP mentioned to help me with that.

I really like ‘beyond’, I like the inference that there’s more available than traditional methods.

An example I was given by someone is HRsoul and all I could think of was arsehole! 🤣🤣

I quite like my name but I’m just not sure it’s meaningful in anyway @ArborealArdour.

I’d love to use clear or clarity somewhere in my name.

Exactly @itsgettingweird! I’ve dealt with enough in my time, I certainly don’t want to attract more.

All of those are full-fledged, 'operational' HR firms though (except for Orbweaver which I couldn't find). And there are 2 Orchid HR's, one for leadership coaching, which is similar to you, and another doing recruitment, disciplinaries, etc etc.

Whatever you choose I would probably go with consulting, leadership or coaching in the full name to distinguish yourself from the above.

Nice @itsgettingweird, I wonder about switching it around to Passionate about People, Beyond HR.

Although I agree with PP about the general overuse of passionate and power.

Agreed, @ArborealArdour think people consultant has to be in my business name. Just need the word that comes before it…

I think an AMA recently on marketing best practice.

Honestly just do a name that's:

  • easy for people to remember
  • you can get the domain you want
  • it's unique enough that you'll be able to rank for you own company name

Google Business profiles are good if you sell a local service but less valuable for a nationwide business I'd say. It also takes months to start to see an uplift.

Get your website up. If doing yourself squarespace has easy templates. Have you keywords of what people would search for in your H1 title on each page, new page for each service, blogs on key topics like 6 things businesses should do to improve their hiring process.

Set up brand colours in Canva and be consistent with branding on social media

Only issue is that when I hear HR Consultancy I instantly think of recruitment and disciplinary / tribunal.

PiningForTheMoon · 28/10/2023 17:26

I could choose something like ‘Eagle HR (or People) Consulting’ and while it hold no significance to me, it’s easy to remember, lots of merchandise opportunities and I could use associated terms like ‘soar’.

Exactly @FusionChefGeoff. So better to use ‘something people consulting’ with a strap line that says what it does.

I saw that @ArborealArdour but I was trying out the concept from @marketing101.

I searched up strong animals for inspiration and dung beetle came out top so I thought I’d go for eagle instead.

Although, call me when you feel like you’re dealing with a massive pile of shit could work.

I’ve just seen a recruitment agent called Halcyon which is a bit too close.
