Help with a name for my HR consultancy please

PiningForTheMoon · 18/10/2023 14:34

I'm a freelance HR consultant and have so far used my name as my business name but I don't love it.

I feel like I can't see the wood for the trees and would appreciate some outside perspective.

In terms of what I do, I work with SMEs to help the owners/Directors get the best from their people. Things like communication, motivation, engagement, development, productivity, succession planning, managing change and generally act as a sounding board. Being proactive to create the best environment/culture so employees can thrive.

I don't get involved in recruitment or disciplinaries.

Grateful for some inspiration.

Do t use anything with "solutions " in it. Very overused and 1980s.

I’m not keen on solutions either @marmaladeandpeanutbutter. Makes clients absolve responsibility.

Chat GPT is quite good for suggestions like this, might be worth a try

I’ve had a go @jojonono but I haven’t got refining down pat yet so it throws up lots of names that don’t work for various reasons.

Thanks @ElleLeopine, do you think I should add HR Consultancy?

I would keep your name. It sounds more professional than a strap line that will date. Particularly for a professional service.

If your name isn’t snappy enough then add another one.
So Emma Smith becomes Smith and Jones Ltd.
Improve your marketing and website so it’s obvious what you do.

PuppyMonkey · 27/10/2023 22:45

Yeah agree with PP, I think it’s not quite the type of business for a witty pun, just stick to your name, much more professional.

Doggymummar · 27/10/2023 22:46

Well you need to make sure you can buy the domain as well. I had to change my name as the domain wasn't available. Eg, Kathleenwilliams.support had to be Kathwilliams.support

PiningForTheMoon · 27/10/2023 22:48

I hear you both @Candleabra and @PuppyMonkey. I’ll stick to my name and add HR Consulting. Simple and unique.

I’ve already got ‘my name Ltd’ registered as a back up @Doggymummar. I’ll see if there’s an HR version available.

Resource Resolution (you're a resolution)
Resourced (you've been resoursed)
Inspired Consultancy (you're inspiring)
The Personable Person (you're Person and a people)

What's your brand like? Are you very typical or more "outside the box"?

What words do you like the sound of?
What do you want to represent or have the image conjured when your business name is said?

AutumnIsMyFriend · 27/10/2023 22:51

For SEO think of what people would type into Google to find your services.

if the would type HR services in Manchester, and you only serve Manchester, then Manchester HR Services is a good name.

labamba007 · 27/10/2023 23:01

It sounds like you help create a strong company culture? Is that right? And could you possibly work along those lines?

I’m not sure if I’m either traditional or outside the box @Lwrenagain.

My background is big 4 and investment banking. I only work with organisations, not individuals and my favourite way to work is with people who manage employees to help them be the best and in turn get the best out of their teams. I tend to focus on communication and motivation rather than policies and disciplinaries.

Words I like are all flowery (eg serendipity) because out of work I’m a bit of a hippy.

I think people would search for ‘HR advice’ but I can only see from my perspective. Perhaps I could make a list of all the things I do and use them as keywords.

Exactly that @labamba007. Helping managers/directors/owners see how they can create the right environment for people to thrive in.

Showing them the correlation between how we treat people can equate to greater profitability.

I don't think I would use 'HR' at all actually with your services. I think many (most?) people searching for an HR consultant are doing so because they have a traditional HR issue - redundancy program support, legal exit for example. Just looking at MN as an example, if you ever see a thread title 'any HR people around' it is always about, for example, legality of hours changes, potential discrimination, redundancy etc.

If you want to be a environment / productivity improvement / motivator, say that, not HR.

I love acorn @Riverlee, sadly it’s already taken. Probably for the best as I would think of Mrs Overall every time I said it out loud.

Oakleaf is an HR recruitment agency so may be too similar.

Actually your username has inspired me…

I agree @Chewbecca, HR is too broad and it means different things to different people.

However, I’m struggling to describe what I do in a succinct way. Perhaps ‘[my name] People Consulting’ is the way to go and I use keywords from my services and articles to help with the search.

OP, is strikes me from what you have said that you specialise more in coaching/mentoring and development rather than the traditional HR consultant role. If, this is the case then perhaps your company name should be slanted to this and not "HR Consultant". If I am wrong, then please just completely ignore me!
