The new Mumsnet

So here it is, what you've all been waiting for (or dreading)... The new look Mumsnet; still no tickers, but lots of fabulous new content and a splendid new look (right?).

Don't forget that to get the best of the new look talk you need to click the Customize link at the top of Talk and change colour scheme to "Mumsnet New".

We're well aware of various minor glitches that we will fix over the next day or two. There are a few duff links around and a few pages that still need updating. But all the big stuff works so dive in and feel free to comment on the problems you find.

Right that's it I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, knock yourselves out.

OP posts:
FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 08:22

well I haven't changed any of my settings since I got online this morning and I can see the Special Needs threads in Active Convos..

glitterfairy · 30/01/2009 08:23

It is soooooooo hard to read the posts! They are all squished up dont mind anything else so far but havent got time to play yet.

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 08:24

no before it was automaticallly not shown in active convo's, I seem to remember it was changed to be automaticallly hidden a while back because of issues of people jumping in on threads and giving rather unhelpful comments due to not having seen what "topic" the threads were started in (and other issues too I believe).

You didn't have to "hide" it yourself, it was just done.

VampiresWalkin · 30/01/2009 08:25

yay loved that

snoringnightmare · 30/01/2009 08:25

Oh this is bad. Not just me who can't read this properly then? Everything is so cramped together.

Help please.

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:27

Oh and even worse, on I'm on ... the synopsis of the last post is changing, but not the person who wrote it. So I've been blithely ignoring this thread because it still said "RubberDuck" to the right of it, but then realised I hadn't written the words in the synopsis.

pooka · 30/01/2009 08:31

I'm so sorry but I loathe this. Everything is all squished up. The layout is off - boxes too close to posts, ads too prominent and you have to scroll down to get to content and that is all pale and anaemic looking. I don't mind the site being changed in layout so long as it looks the same and is familiar. This doesn't look the same! Aaaaaarrgh.

I know I sound like an old fart who cannot cope with change. But I am an old fart who cannot cope with change.

fishie · 30/01/2009 08:32

ok i've changed from sober workplace to new mumsnet, have million 'hide' too. i have it on a minimised window and the message text is not wrapping.

Classic settiing doesn't seem to work.

Hyperventilates.

Blows into paper bag.

2shoes · 30/01/2009 08:33

I think it is ok, just need to opt in/out SN button back imo

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2009 08:38

Any one coming to the site are going to know we are a bunch of loons from the home page - have you seen quote of the week

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2009 08:38

Rubberduck, I have been having that problem too, very confusing

When you go into a topic the listing cuts off the full thread title so some don't make sense !

cikecaka · 30/01/2009 08:40

I have a pain in my head from squinting, have tried to switch back to classic but to no avail

NoIAmTheNewQueenofMN · 30/01/2009 08:40

I think it's lovely. Well done, Tech.

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:41

Marla: I'm not leaving - I've been here far too long But the I'm On changes have seriously made it unusable for me... so I'm sure I'll end up using it less, because it's such a pain to track where in a thread I'd got to. It simply takes more time to track fewer threads.

Sesthinks2009willbeagreatyear · 30/01/2009 08:42

Hmmm...

Have duly obeyed instruction to change to Mumsnet New style...

Only on iPhone so far as being lazy this morning and still in bed . Agree with other iPhone user who said font of name of posted above each post is too small. Please can that be changed??!

Also as others have said, on Threads I'm On, I seem to have been the last poster on all threads. Not true - I'm not a thread killer!!

Again would support others comments about being able to see which post I last read through it being a different colour on Threads I'm On.

Please act on the feedback around these adjustments and then I think I'll get used to it!

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:43

And for what it's worth, I do love the styling (once I'd worked out that it hadn't flipped me automatically to the new style and had just broken the old one - I wonder how many complaints are due to people only being able to see the broken old one?) - just the niggles of the parts which have broken functionality that are annoying.

LisaLessLumpy · 30/01/2009 08:43

Ahhh, when I first logged on it was all horrible, everything all squished up, especially on the classic setting. I have just changed to 'new' mumsnet and it is instantly better. There are a few things I'm still not happy with, but I'm going to go have a cuppa, calm down and look again. But on first glance it is looking very nice, but only on the 'new' mumsnet setting, classic must have a bug in it still

mysterymoniker · 30/01/2009 08:44

I'm sure it will be lovely when all the little glitches are ironed out, when I don't have to scroll for 6 miles to find thousands of messages compressed into half a square inch for example

(am using the most up to date firefox, maybe will try IE?)

PuppyMonkey · 30/01/2009 08:45

My eyesight is going a bit, so New Look is not really doing much for me I'm afraid.

I think get rid of those shortcuts at the bottom... and make the rest of the typeface all bigger again for us oldies who need reading glasses but can't be arsed to get them!

mysterymoniker · 30/01/2009 08:47

ohhh it is so much better on 'new' mumsnet

much much much better

thank you!

Botbot · 30/01/2009 08:47

I need Sober Workplace, but the threads are all squished up on that one. On Mumsnet New, not as squished but too blue and not Sober enough.
