The new Mumsnet

So here it is, what you've all been waiting for (or dreading)... The new look Mumsnet; still no tickers, but lots of fabulous new content and a splendid new look (right?).

Don't forget that to get the best of the new look talk you need to click the Customize link at the top of Talk and change colour scheme to "Mumsnet New".

We're well aware of various minor glitches that we will fix over the next day or two. There are a few duff links around and a few pages that still need updating. But all the big stuff works so dive in and feel free to comment on the problems you find.

Right that's it I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, knock yourselves out.

MIne's on classic still but the rest of it- front page, titles etc- good job Tech

One thing- yes the colours are staying pale and for those of us who hard of seeing that is a bit of an issue thanks.

Looks much smarter in layout tho.

ssd · 30/01/2009 08:12

hate it, sorry

and the writing doesn't fit on the page here, /i have to move the bottom scroll bar to the left tp read everthing (like my life isn't hard enough)

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2009 08:13

Ok also really hate the way you have to jump up above the advert to click add message.
The writing is really tiny

NO NO NO NO

I think I may just have to return to RL

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 08:13

The colours for visited link and new link in the "new Mumsnet" are very similar. There is a very subtle difference.

trixiethepixie · 30/01/2009 08:13

Me no likey this.

Can you change the thread titles so we can see the whole thing??

IAteMakkaPakka · 30/01/2009 08:13

I thought I'd finally get over my Luddite tendencies and change to a pages view while we are all getting used to this strangeness, but every time I go into Customise to change it to pages rather than all messages on one page, the save button appears to reset it to all on one page again. I am sure this is something I am doing wrong. I just don't know what.

Back to Classic view then, methinks!

geordieminx · 30/01/2009 08:14

Mine wont either, if I click on active convos the font is so tiny it makes my retinas burn.

I want it changed back, or at least be able to or I'm off

I understand that if things dont change then they stay the same and all that yada but there was nowt wrong with it before I cant see what all these changes have done other than make it more difficult/complicated/horrendous on the eyes.

I'm sad about this

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 08:14

ok......there ARE a few good bit, I will gives ya that....you have clearly worked VER hard.

well done

a very bog super star for you to wear all day now, star of the week, pupil of the day etc etc.....

NOW PLEASE, can you turn it back???

I was nice this time

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 08:15

have to agree about the links I've clicked on being almost identical and not easy to see with the ones I didn't, and the font size of Active convos..........

norksinmywaistband · 30/01/2009 08:15

OK Thanks Justine in New MUmsnet, I can click Add a message much easier.
God but this is going to take me some time

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 30/01/2009 08:16

can someone tell me how to make it not so tiny - tis making my eyes hurt and frankly I can't take that this morning. .

VampiresWalkin · 30/01/2009 08:16

"Add a message within '_Chat' " is misleading - it needs to be "to this thread" or it sounds like you should be starting a whole new thread

SoupDragon · 30/01/2009 08:16

At the top of the "new mumsnet" active conversations, it says " If you want to see the latest local talk postings on Active Conversations you need to select your Local area.
hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide"

Why???

VampiresWalkin · 30/01/2009 08:17

ctrl and + will zoom Hangingbelly

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 08:18

you do realise that there really WILL be a new story this time don;t you.

BREAKING NEWS

"There is a stand-off situation at the top head quarters for MumsNet, also known as 'The Shed'.

Tech is barricaded in, while MNers have run amock outside chanting we want old mumsnet back.

right now we have no idea how this will pan out, but stay tuned while we bring you the latest updates"

((don;t say you were not warned!!))

VampiresWalkin · 30/01/2009 08:18

Ooh anyone got a link to the bbc news page from last time?

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 08:19

this thread flame

FAQtothefuture · 30/01/2009 08:20

oh - and is the Special Needs topic supposed to be back automatically "seen" by everyone in Active Convo's? I thought it was automatically hidden unless you wanted to see if a while back........

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 08:20

scroll down BTW

RubberDuck · 30/01/2009 08:21

How do you work out whether there's been a new post added to a thread you're on? I used to go by link change colour and how many new lines were above the last time I commented. Now you only see what the last thing said was and no easy way to jump to a thread half way through to get back to where you'd read to...

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 30/01/2009 08:21

thank you, Vampire. you may well have saved my day.

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 08:21

FAQ, my options on topics I see are still set the same.......tech got something right

so, yes, SN topic should be as normal still

MrsTweedy · 30/01/2009 08:21

Oh God, I can't even bear to look at 'Customize' - get rid of the sodding 'z' it's 's' !!!!!

(Am so overcome it's brought on excessive use of exclamation marks!!!!)
