The new Mumsnet

So here it is, what you've all been waiting for (or dreading)... The new look Mumsnet; still no tickers, but lots of fabulous new content and a splendid new look (right?).

Don't forget that to get the best of the new look talk you need to click the Customize link at the top of Talk and change colour scheme to "Mumsnet New".

We're well aware of various minor glitches that we will fix over the next day or two. There are a few duff links around and a few pages that still need updating. But all the big stuff works so dive in and feel free to comment on the problems you find.

Right that's it I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, knock yourselves out.

I didn't realise so many people used last day! They asked about a month ago and everyone said to get rid of last day cos they never bothered with it.

nooka · 31/01/2009 05:33

Well this is the second night I've tried to use Mumsnet, and it is really hurting my eyes. It's not been a problem before so there must be something wrong with the way it looks. Threads I'm on looks better tonight though. I also really dislike the new bar at the top - the Conception, Pregnancy etc one. It makes Mumsnet look like a place only for mums of babies. My children are now 8 and 9, and I don't think I am unusual judging from the size of the primary school threads, and the existence of the topics for teenagers. I know it is probably due to the content, but I really think it could be offputting for lots of parents of older children.

PadDad · 31/01/2009 06:48

Please bring back the 'Threads from the last Day/24 hours'.

kittywise · 31/01/2009 07:49

When I press the 'mumsnet classic' button at the top of the customiSe page nothing is happeing STILL.

Please fix this someone, this site has become unusable

LIZS · 31/01/2009 08:11

I'm not sure I see the point of the single search box option. Whatever term you are likely to put in will bring up 500 threads or more, so pretty useless. Yet another extra click required - roll on RSI !

mileniwmffalcon · 31/01/2009 08:38

well i've found it useful already, so maybe you just have to be specific with your search terms. it's no more clicks to get to the advanced search than it ever was

LadyOfWaffle · 31/01/2009 09:01

The topic list looks better when you click 'show all'. TBH, MNHQ it would be good if that was the first/only setting - newbies won't know where some topics are/if the exsist etc. , only the ones that originally show. I know there is a 'more' button thingy, but I think the other way looks alot better.

piratecat · 31/01/2009 09:42

L of w, agreed, much easier to see topics, and know what mumsnet is all about if you click 'show all'

the 'show all' text needs to be bigget and in white, as it just fades into the background, and i hadn't seen it till L of W pointed it out.

LIZS · 31/01/2009 10:21

I'd completely missed the Show All , it is so blended into the colour of the header bar - thanks for the tip!

LIZS · 31/01/2009 10:42

Can you set it to default to Show all?

nappyaddict · 31/01/2009 11:40

I didn't see it either at first. Agree it needs to be white. The only problem is each time you go back to the topic page it goes back to normal. It would be good if you could click show all and it would stay that way until you changed it back.

SlightlyMadScotland · 31/01/2009 11:59

OK now I am all in a quandry.

I love the layout of active convo's and threads I'm on etc. using MN new.

I like the font colour of the individual posts in MN new (it is too pale in the other viewa and not good for my eyes)

But I prefer the layout of each thread and other colour optiosn.

Which do I chose. I love elements of the old styles... but the text is painfully pale.

I love the new layour in general...I think I just want more colur options (e.g. link colours and the colours of bars)

LadyOfWaffle · 31/01/2009 12:07

Def. default Show All - they all fit nicely so I can't see what the other view has over it TBH

and also the threads in active convos don't change colour when I have read them (dunno if someones said all this, too tired to read all posts )

and when I am on a thread (def. at least in breast and bottle feeding) and then click active convos it takes me to the breastfeeding topic, hen I have to click again to get back to active convos... dunno if it's meant to do that....

Oh, and the thread titles are chopped off... you have no idea what some threads are going to be about and it could be something you may be able to help with, but as it doesn't catch your eye you could miss it. Does that make sense?

ShyBaby · 31/01/2009 12:24

Sorry, im sure lots of hard work went into this but I hate it! Can barely read anything even with my specs on.

When I first clicked on it I thought i'd accidentally found Bounty.

SlightlyMadScotland · 31/01/2009 12:26

ShyBaby...go to Customise and Select New Mumsnet at teh bottom. Suddenly everything becomes crystal clear.

ShyBaby · 31/01/2009 13:07

Tried it just, no difference here im afraid!

RustyBear · 31/01/2009 13:26

Did you refresh the page after you changed Shybaby? It may help. (f5, or if that doesn't work, Ctrl & f5 or Shift & f5, or Ctrl-R in Firefox 3)

jujumaman · 31/01/2009 18:25

I click on classic
I press F5

I click on classic
I press control F%

I click on classic
I press shift F%

WhateverI do I am still stuck in new mumsnet

[Nails bitten to the quick emoticon}

RubberDuck · 31/01/2009 18:33

You need to click on classic, and change back to classic colours, then hit save. Does that work for you?

SlightlyMadScotland · 31/01/2009 19:02

JuJu...choose New Mumsnet. I was on classic MN earlier and found it anoying buut get use to-able.

Then I clicked New MN in the colour schemes and it straightens a lot of thinsg out. It is new....but it is more readable.
