The new Mumsnet

So here it is, what you've all been waiting for (or dreading)... The new look Mumsnet; still no tickers, but lots of fabulous new content and a splendid new look (right?).

Don't forget that to get the best of the new look talk you need to click the Customize link at the top of Talk and change colour scheme to "Mumsnet New".

We're well aware of various minor glitches that we will fix over the next day or two. There are a few duff links around and a few pages that still need updating. But all the big stuff works so dive in and feel free to comment on the problems you find.

Right that's it I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, knock yourselves out.

OP posts:
boredveryverybored · 30/01/2009 06:28

Oh and if we do have to stick with the newfangled stuff, can you do something with the ads? the long thin ads that are usually at the side of the page are now sitting on top of mine pushing everything down??

Buda · 30/01/2009 06:28

Scrunched up is right eandh. It's too scrunched.

PadDad · 30/01/2009 06:28

There's a button for 'Last 15 minutes' and 'Last hour' but where is the one for 'last day'?

Can I customise that in?

LoveBeingAMummy · 30/01/2009 06:40

Blimey that was a shock so early in the morning!!!

TBH I do think it looks loads better and I know that when I first joined i did think it could do with looking better (here comes the but) BUT I am soooo used to it now I don't know if I can find everything

One thing that could really do with sorting is the ads, they're pushing everything down and getting in the way.

thanks x

kittywise · 30/01/2009 06:40

It's shit

ProfYaffle · 30/01/2009 06:45

Hmmm, not sure. I do try not to be a luddite about this sort of stuff but is the general layout of text staying the same?? Between the acres of white space, clunking ad at the top and the moon being inexplicably prominant, the actual threads are being squeezed into far too small a space. Too much pageup/pagedown to get to the business end iyswim.

I like the other stuff though

foxytocin · 30/01/2009 06:48

another luddite here.

it looks... modern... maybe i'll like it soon.

sigh

Furball · 30/01/2009 06:52

another moaner here - I'm supposed to be on mumsnet classic and can't find that button now.

I'm sorry but this is awful - I will not be visiting often if it's like this, it's hard on the eyes and not user friendly at all, it's all pale and pasty and the writing bunched

aGalChangedHerName · 30/01/2009 06:52

I assume the classics button is just not working atm??

Don't like this at all.

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 06:57

If you want to know how it looks on an iphone I'm still in bed & can't be bothered to fetch the laptop so I don't know if the things I can see are only like it on the iPhone or on safari.
I like the bolder titles in the active convos & threads I'm on list but the posters' names on the threads are so small I can't actually read them.
There's a lot of white space on the right, but on the iphone this is actually useful as it means I can flick down the page without accidentally clicking on 'report
post' which used to happen sometimes. It does mean the text is a bit small but I can live with that.
But the problem with all the hide links ganging up and spreading themselves like a picket line across the top of the page has returned - I've had to remove the option as it makes the rest of the page much to small to see.
I've noticed that threads I'm watching now gives me a blank page - are they gone forever or will they return in the fullness of time?
Now off to see if there's anything else I can complain about give feedback on.

MmeLindt · 30/01/2009 06:58

I am going against the general opinion to say I LOVE IT.

So far. Only been here a couple of minutes

JustKeepSwimming · 30/01/2009 06:59

I want it to show when i've clicked on a name to read that thread. otherwise i can't tell where i've reached in a fast moving thread....

And if you give the option of Classic - then i think everything in Classic should stay the same, not change some of it.

Am sure i'll get used to it.....eventually

jalopy · 30/01/2009 06:59

I'm all for change......Please change back.

Furball · 30/01/2009 07:01

another moan -active conversations, all small and bitty, for me it's not bold it's pale blue and too much, too busy - I can't be bothered to read it.

Threads I'm on is really hard on the eyes as is unanswered.

Littlefish · 30/01/2009 07:03

Where are the threads that I was watching in the old version? If I click on the "threads I'm watching" tab above, it just gives me shortcuts etc.

Wheeeeeeeere are they Tech??????

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 07:04

On the iphone I don't get the problem some people are reporting of the ad pushing the text down the page,it's wrapping as it should, though the links at the top (add a message etc) do stretch right across the page, where nothing else does.

PadDad · 30/01/2009 07:05

In "Threads I'm On", the dates are all screwed up.

It says I last posted on 29/55/09.

And it sometimes lists me as the last poster when there have been quite a few posters after me.

sandcastles · 30/01/2009 07:06

the 'change to classic mumsnet' doesn't seem to be working for me...

I not like this new look...I like it less than the 45o heat with no air con thing going on here!

I need my old mumsnet back!

JustKeepSwimming · 30/01/2009 07:08

Sandcastles - i kept clicking on classic and it did change back eventually.
but...classic is different too

MmeLindt · 30/01/2009 07:08

Ok, I have even gone so far as to use the new colours. And I still like it.

snigger · 30/01/2009 07:09

I predict rent garments and ashes.

I get a sense of how DH feels when he works late and comes home in the dark to find I've moved all the furniture round.

Off to explore.

nannynick · 30/01/2009 07:13

For those who have issues with ads pushing down content, try updating to the latest version of your browser.

MSWindows:
Internet Explorer
FireFox
Safari

AOL users try upgrading your system
see here Also update Internet Explorer.

MAC:
Could someone post the relevant links... expect it is Download Safari but can't be sure as I'm using a MSWindows based browser.

sandcastles · 30/01/2009 07:13

Thanks, justkeep....

I'm hot & now I am bovvered!

sockmonkey · 30/01/2009 07:13

Erm... I like the new banner at the top, but the ads are pushing the text down. That must be a glitch. It's alright though...will just take getting used to.

juuule · 30/01/2009 07:13

Prefer the old layout.
Much easier to read.
Option menu for talk not as quick to navigate. All forums not displayed so have to press 'more' to go looking for what I'm after.
Writing too pale and indistinct.
Threads I'm on all appear as one block with nothing really defining each thread.
