The new Mumsnet

So here it is, what you've all been waiting for (or dreading)... The new look Mumsnet; still no tickers, but lots of fabulous new content and a splendid new look (right?).

Don't forget that to get the best of the new look talk you need to click the Customize link at the top of Talk and change colour scheme to "Mumsnet New".

We're well aware of various minor glitches that we will fix over the next day or two. There are a few duff links around and a few pages that still need updating. But all the big stuff works so dive in and feel free to comment on the problems you find.

Right that's it I'm off to bed for a couple of hours, knock yourselves out.

I love it

NotQuiteCockney · 30/01/2009 07:15

I'm giving it a go - but in active convos, I now see much shorter thread titles (they get truncated earlier) is this inevitable?

Lulumama · 30/01/2009 07:16

HOW DO I CHANGE IT BACK TO HOW IT WAS????
too pale and a bit confusing

well done though, must have been hard work

EldonAve · 30/01/2009 07:20

How do I get it back to normal?

juuule · 30/01/2009 07:20

Okay I've found the 'show all' on talk. That's better. But.. when I return to the talk menu screen I have to press 'show all' each time which is a bit of a nuisance.

PortAndLemon · 30/01/2009 07:21

In Firefox 3.0.5 on Windows Vista, I get

Active discussions
hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide hide

on the Active threads page.

Oh POOO!!!! (see, I can be eloquent)

Splendid?

[sobs with head on table]

where is "my conversations"?

juuule · 30/01/2009 07:24

I also don't like:
that thread titles are truncated.
that you can't tell when the topic was last updated until you go into it.

bellavita · 30/01/2009 07:26

Not sure yet.........

psychomum5 · 30/01/2009 07:27

tis broken, and I know it is, cos the MOON is full, and yesterday.........YESTERDAY is was a teeny tiny barely-there moon, like outside.

this is an alternate universe isn;t it ......there are ALIENS here now, not hairy trucker......

mm22bys · 30/01/2009 07:27

It's still early for me, but it's a pain you have to click on "more" every time you want to see all thread topics.

I don't know where the topics I use most often (SN and AIBU) but it's good you have a popular topics section - could this be at the top, rather than the bottom, so we don't have to scroll down?

I don't like the short thread titles, how are we supposed to know what's likely to interest us or not?

I can't find the "Mumsnet Classic" button - where is it?

I know you've worked hard on this, but...and I know it's still early... but...

I want MN Classic back please!

Oggsdog · 30/01/2009 07:28

Oooer.

Can't tell if I like it yet as sodding dial-up speed has dropped to a teeth-gnashing 7 kbps and I can't load anything properly.

I'll be back...

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 07:28

To get the active convos & threads I'm on looking bolder you need to change to the new colour scheme on customize - it doesn't just change the colour of the name bars, it does other stuff as well. If you do you get the threads on alternate blue & white background which makes them much easier to read.

(I have just discovered while mistyping 'stuff' that my iphone has now learned WTF as a valid word (though it insists on capitalising it). Didn't realize I used it that much )

bluesky · 30/01/2009 07:34

mine looks different already just by pushing the refresh button

can't find list of topics, only a selected few

but I'm sure when I come back later, it will all be sorted out!!?

GrapefruitMoon · 30/01/2009 07:34

God, it's too early to be dealing with this, like waking up with a hangover in a flourescent yellow room...

Furball · 30/01/2009 07:34

portandlemon - your screen is alot less busy than mine, mine al the thread titles are bunched up and it doesn't say how many there are. so even though yours says hide hide hide etc, it's not as hard on the eye

RustyBear · 30/01/2009 07:34

Oh, and not being able to see the poster's name because it's too small isn't a problem when it's psychomum posting - you can tell which are her posts from the other side of the room...

Ooh thought my eyes weren't working right this morning

I am trying out the new Mumsnet (reluctantly) as Tech muctv'e spent weeks doing it so must atleast give them 15 mins a day to try it out

So far I haven't had the same problems as everyone else with the adds and stuff and nothing wrong with threads I'm on either all fine here

Although is a bit pale and my eyes hurt that may be a problem

But heyho other than that well done

Watusi · 30/01/2009 07:35

W nmb usndfiufgno!!!!!

what's happened, it's gorn, there is a strange pale thing in its place!

It's like I just came home from, oh I dunno, a night out maybe, and my house has disappeared.

Oggsdog · 30/01/2009 07:36

Wasn't there some talk of having an 'add your message here' at the top of the message for those of us that read in last message first order?

It can take me ages to completely load a big thread and get to the 'add message' at the end - that's why I often have to use pages.

Watusi · 30/01/2009 07:39

Actually I do quite like how it looks, the font is waaay better.

Don't like as Juule said, truncated titles.
No last posted on bit until clicked.

'popular forums' is just silly, what about the ones that need popularising, who the hell will find those now??

I want a proper list please that has eveything on it. Not just the mainstream ones.

I think the problem is there's just not enough space on this version for all the extra knobs we need and rely on.

Nice font though tech

PortAndLemon · 30/01/2009 07:40

Another bug (still Firefox 3.0.5 on Vista): Threads I'm On shows the start of the latest post and the last posting time but shows my name in the "By" column for every thread even though I'm not the last person to post.

(Screenshot here)

Geepers · 30/01/2009 07:41

Oh no, I could cry. I hate it, and I don't usually mind change

Watusi · 30/01/2009 07:41

Ah. Have found 'show all' for topic list.

Better but you need to scrap the links in the blue headings, it's too confusing, unnecessary, cluttered and they are right there underneath the headings anyway.

Thanks!
