Hi Mumsnet

A few days ago the pages started to be obscured by a large grey area across the top. It's something of a nuisance. It wasn't like this before.

I use Firefox and tend to have several tabs open at once.

Could you look into it please?

Another example, where it shows clearly how the grey cuts across the posts. This doesn't happen on any other site

Hi @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar

Seems very odd indeed. Firstly that is an ad slot... but given the nature of that conversation I assume there were no other ads on the page so the adslot should dissapear. Could you send me the URL you were on please?

Also are you using a Desktop or Tablet?

Thanks!

I use a PC and a phone. Normal ads on the phone.

these are the urls: (I did mention several tabs!)

and suddenly the grey area on this page has disappeared. It's still there on the Ukraine page and others though. How odd.

As a note, having an ad space that covers literally 1/3 of the readable area seems a bit excessive ! I live abroad and Brexit meant that the UK banks closed my account after they didn't extend their continental banking licenses, which means that paying a subscription would be excessively expensive.

This page, now, without grey area

Thanks for all the details!

Have you always had Mumsnet zoomed in at 150%?

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 27/07/2026 20:39

Yes.

M'eyesight isn't what it was.

Okay, so I can answer on those without ad spaces are usually sensitive conversations where we don't want ads to be present (nor do advertisers!).

Has the big grey box come back? I've checked on multiple screen sizes on firefox and can't replicate this on those threads. Hoping it was some kind of bug?

ReleaseTheDucksOfWar · 28/07/2026 12:41

It's gone!

Whatever you tech wizards did, it worked.

Thanks, it was really quite annoying =)

🕶I can't take any credit, I also assume some tech wizardry!!

Have a lovely day @ReleaseTheDucksOfWar
