Why did the "Lisa Johnson One to Many" thread get deleted?

PermanentIyExhaustedPigeon · 19/03/2024 18:26

I've seen the deletion message but don't understand why the comments that broke talk guidelines couldn't have been deleted and the rest of the thread left to stand.

Lisa Johnson claims that she had it removed because she put pressure on MN to do so.

Can anyone from MNHQ clarify please?

I am very, very disappointed with Mumsnet for deleting that thread.

Thank you for posting this, OP. I would hope we will get an answer from MN, because that thread was all about women looking out for other women.

"Just a conclusion to the defamatory thread situation:

I want you to know that you CAN win against bullies and trolls. Integrity always wins.

Even when everyone tells you that you can’t, that even if you prove defamation nothing will be done, that you should just forget about it knowing the lies will sit there forever.

Nobody wanted me to continue to shout that it isn’t right that this is able to happen. After all, we all know it’s better for the brand not to talk about negativity. To just be quiet.

But that’s what bullies want. To silence you. That’s what cancel culture is all about.

I always believe it’s worth the fight if you care enough. And I’m passionate about anti bullying, especially online. I wasn’t necessarily pushing this for me (I’m pretty resilient) but to show others that you don’t have to just put up with people lying about you online.

And so against the odds, the entire thread has been taken down 🙌

And for those of you worried that you’d need money to fight for things like this, I didn’t spend a single penny. The site owners agreed that the comments went against their own rules and did the right thing.

Don’t give up on things you believe are important. And never allow yourself to be bullied or silenced by anyone.

But mostly let’s all stop being worried about being ‘cancelled’ because we won’t put up with others trying to bring us down and instead start living life as if we are ALREADY cancelled."

Lisa Johnson's response.

So, MN, why didn't you just delete the comments that you deemed to be against your guidelines? Why did you cave and pull the whole thread?

Report
Geebray · 19/03/2024 18:51

I imagine that the thread can be reinstated, with the offending comments removed. Would that not be fairer?

Someone is gloating that they got a thread taken down, MN, that was commenting on their business practices. And how they responded to online criticism, calling us "lowlives" on a "gossip" site. Does that sit well with you?

Oh the irony of her banging on about "cancel culture" 😂

(Spoiler: not Lisa Johnson)

Let us keep to the facts of that thread. I don't see why Mumsnet can't delete the posts it felt were "against the spirit". A lot of them were very informative.

Oh that message, crowing about how she made MN delete a thread.

I wish the thread would be reinstated, with the offending posts deleted.

Personally I didn't see anything that broke the TGs.

That's really disappointing it should have stood.

I'm sure tattle have it screenshotted and hopefully they'll not delete it.

I don't think they have.
They commented on their MN thread about it but I didn't see any screenshots.

I don't care about Lisa Johnson that much. What I do care about is that Mumsnet have pulled a whole thread because apparently a few replies were unacceptable.

It's interesting that the thread was fine until Lisa struggled to get it removed then suddenly there were lots of posts that were so awful it had to be deleted in its entirety. It's almost as if people deliberately posted to ruin the thread.

I'm very disappointed with Mumsnet, they could easily have just deleted the posts that were against the rules. The thread had managed without deletions for over 20 pages after all.

I downloaded the entire thread yesterday afternoon and as soon as I work out how to make it publically available I will do!

As one of the mods on MN at the time of the she who should not be named incident , I can only assume MN got the willies and didn’t want a repeat performance.. GF lawyers were threatening legal action .. it’s ridiculous.. what the heck happened to free speech ? I don’t see the issue if the relevant posts are deleted

I'm also disappointed it's gone.
It was a fabulous thread and gave people like me, who were genuinely wavering about the OTM program, some really useful info.
(It was also quite entertaining)
