Hi all,

We're currently testing a new topic page layout called ‘OP view’. You may have noticed it already if you've been on the Gardening topic page in the last month. The aim is to make it easier for users to understand what a thread is about.

Today, we're making ’OP view’ available on Property/DIY, Telly Addicts, The Doghouse, Food/Recipes, Housekeeping and Home decoration. This change will only be on mobile and desktop, OP view is currently not available in the apps.

From initial feedback, you told us that you'd like to be able to switch between OP and classic view. You'll still be able to do this by using the icon on the page, but now you can also choose a default view in your Talk settings.

We appreciate your feedback so feel free to add it to this thread.

It’s really messy - the lines don’t truncate so there is no consistency in size of preview. The ones which have photos are enormous compared to the ones that don’t.

also all in one colour (white) makes it seem really flat

I sometimes feel like MNHQ make changes that no one asks for…. Then totally ignore things we do want.

any update on moving the quote button out of the 3 dots and replacing the “reply” button with it?!

Sorry, but that's horrible on a mobile, it's overwhelming and I can't easily scroll down to find threads I like.

hate it - too long to scroll to topics I am interested in (not SCD, bake off, ...)

I think it's a good idea in theory but my screen only shows three threads in this view and the scrolling is painful.

Why don't MN spend time delivering consistency across platforms rather than endless tweaks which are often meaningless & sometimes make the it worse?

The new view shows the first line of the op (I didn't get it instantly because to me op is original poster not original post)

But the title is also MASSIVE

I dont like it.
You end up reading the first few lines of the OP which often doesn’t tell you much. I find it time consuming and distracting tbh.

I much prefer a ‘ at a glance’ approach scanning through the titles.

If this is the same as the changes made to the Gardening topic, I don't like the look, plus the fact it opens a new tab in the browser when you click on a thread.

Have had a quick look on mobile version. Honestly it seems pointless.

The few lines of text you see don't really tell you much about the thread - the way to do it would be to have a rollover option where the OP showed up.

Nothing ever works on the app. In this day and age where probably most people are using the app on a tablet or smartphone, i can't understand why everything is always rolled out for desktop.

Especially as every other vendor / service I know is enhancing their app, often in preference to the website.

On my laptop, it's too spaced out. I would much prefer a rollover version, as others have said.

The best way for people to know what a thread is about is to have a sensible title. If people choose to put a meaningless vague title and then people don't bother to click on it, that's their lookout.

I don't like change. I would select not to have this new feature.

I really don’t like it. As pp have said, it doesn’t give enough info to get a feel for the thread and it just looks so messy on a mobile.

Also, I get about 10 threads, then trending topics appears, then a few more threads then shopping appears, then more threads. Way too confusing.

It’s a no from me too. I want to be able to scan lots of thread titles quickly and the new layout doesn’t allow that.
