UPDATE FROM MNHQ - New OP view

Hi all,

We're currently testing a new topic page layout called ‘OP view’. You may have noticed it already if you've been on the Gardening topic page in the last month. The aim is to make it easier for users to understand what a thread is about.

Today, we're making ’OP view’ available on Property/DIY, Telly Addicts, The Doghouse, Food/Recipes, Housekeeping and Home decoration. This change will only be on mobile and desktop, OP view is currently not available in the apps.

From initial feedback, you told us that you'd like to be able to switch between OP and classic view. You'll still be able to do this by using the icon on the page, but now you can also choose a default view in your Talk settings.

We appreciate your feedback so feel free to add it to this thread.

You can see it but you can't quote a post with a quote @SoupDragon but I still prefer the app. I only go on desktop to use gifs or PMs. Not bothered about quotes or thanks or editing, I can do all that manually.

and I never use the app. Safari on iPad and iPhone.

You can quote a post with a quote now. They added this in a tiny bit later.

Apparently it's harder to make an Android app because there are always hundreds of models running that particular version of the OS, whereas for the iPhone there are only ever about seven. So Android can have more unintended glitches.

This isn't true. There are more versions, but it is easy to mitigate the impact. Especially with something really simple like a discussion board.

Same, but TBF that's partly because the app is rubbish. If it were better I'd happily use it.

It is my new years resolution for 202 to 'use apps' as i don't at the moment.
So I still have ~8 weeks to go.

So after weeks of people on Gardening telling you how much it is disliked, you went ahead and did it anyway.

MN running slow again and keep getting a black screen. Might be an idea to sort out the sites obvious problems first

Yes fortunately you can turn it off in settings.

Also the site is running incredibly slowly today and I keep getting a 500 internal error message. It definitely feels like more time should be spent working on the basics and fixing current issues before rolling out pointless new stuff no one needed or asked for.

Why do they film so much stuff and then just show us repeated conversations about the same old shite? I don't get it.

You can turn it off but it doesn't stay off. Have to do it each time you look.😤

That's if you turn it off on the board. If you do it in settings it stays off.

If you turn it off in settings then it seems to stay off, or at least mine hasn't come back on again yet.

Although that could just as easily be a bug rather than a design feature who knows these days.

Probably due to people like me who mostly loathe apps. I am late 50's - pretty IT savvy but I find the functionality on apps much more limiting than desk top.

I use Apps for lots of things but the MN one is pointless. The mobile version works well on safari so I’ve never bothered.

I don’t use apps. I don’t want them on my phone. I use Safari go to mobile site.
