New feature - save threads & posts

KatyMumsnet · 01/12/2022 11:55

Hi all,

During the course of our website upgrade we did a lot of user testing with Mumsnetters - one of the things they said they'd like was to be able to save interesting threads and posts to come back to later, so we’ve built a new save feature (on the website only for now) and you’ll soon see the save option appear on posts.

There are now 4 ways to curate the content you want to find again or be notified about:

  • I’m on - threads you’ve commented on
  • I started - threads you started
  • I’m watching - threads you want to see updates on and receive notifications about
  • Saved - threads & posts you’ve saved to come back to later
And we’ve grouped these under the umbrella term ‘My lists’ which you can access via the blue navigation bar at the bottom of the screen on mobile or via the ‘My Mumsnet’ menu (the person icon) in the top right on desktop or mobile when you’re logged in. We hope this will help new users understand how to use these features.

We’ve also slightly rejigged the design so you can save, share and report posts more easily.

We hope you find it useful and as always we welcome feedback!

I dont like the 'My Lists' button as that was the 'Threads I'm On' space so it takes more clicks to get there

dementedpixie · 01/12/2022 12:14

And you still have 'Watching' as a button so it is duplicated

Exactly.

This is awful.

Please change it back!!

MarshaBradyo · 01/12/2022 12:15

Request for change back

Too cluttered and extra steps to get to threads I’m on

ShirleyPhallus · 01/12/2022 12:16

Hi, nice updates in part….

But:

  • TIO is now too many clicks away. For many posters it’s the thing they click on first (it is for me at least) so would be better for that one to be one of the primary buttons instead of it being an extra click away
  • personally really dislike (hate) the save / share / report buttons being underneath every single post. Who are these weirdos who are saving or sharing a specific post?! Can’t this go under the 3 dots menu along with report etc? The main issue with it is that on the mobile site you can only see a few posts at a time so having these buttons under every post massively adds to scrolling / userbility.
ShirleyPhallus · 01/12/2022 12:18

Also I now have “watching” along the bottom and then “my lists” which also gives the option for watching. Can’t you swap watching for TIO then let people get to my lists? (I do really like having the option to see threads I’ve started btw)

JPE · 01/12/2022 12:18

Nooooo!

takes up far too much of the screen!

not needed, please change it back.

(when will we get automatic capitalisation on new lines?!)

DinaofCloud9 · 01/12/2022 12:20

I'm sorry to be negative but I really don't like it. I'm left handed and keep clicking on the save button by mistake as I'm scrolling down.

All these changes being brought in seem to be for the worse.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 01/12/2022 12:20

Happy with all that except your use of the word 'curate' Grin

Afterfire · 01/12/2022 12:20

Yes, change watching for TIO.

Remainiac · 01/12/2022 12:23

But still no edit or like buttons…

Yup.

Appreciate the thought, MN, but as a mobile user this is a pain in the arse.

bizzey · 01/12/2022 12:25

The save / share / report thing under every post is giving me a headache .

Please get rid of allow it to be an optional use .
Thank you.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 01/12/2022 12:26

I’m also in camp no. It’s an awful change on a Mobil and still can’t use the watching feature - so that may as well go in the bin!

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/12/2022 12:34

Don’t like it, because it does not take me to threads I’m in

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/12/2022 12:36

I want one click to threads I’m in, not some roundabout lists nonsense.

why do you keep fixing the hangs that are not broken?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/12/2022 12:37

Things.

Peridot1 · 01/12/2022 12:39

I don’t like it either. Can we not just have “I’m On” where it was please?

I feel like a grumpy old curmudgeon but every improvement seems to make things worse not better. The non capitalisation on a new paragraph thing is sooooo annoying. Why not fix that instead of giving changes that nobody wants.

Msgrieves · 01/12/2022 12:39

Being able to hide threads with one click would be more useful. I can't even remember how to hide/show topics.

mum2jakie · 01/12/2022 12:39

This is not an improvement Mumsnet!!

greenhousegal · 01/12/2022 12:41

I am a bit bemused how some people get very exercised about changes to this website. It's a bit of fun for me and I never know what changes are being made until I log on. There is a life out there too.

hugoagogo · 01/12/2022 12:49

Pointless and annoying.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/12/2022 12:49

It’s the opposite of useful.

Please get rid of it.

Newwardrobe · 01/12/2022 12:50

It's awful, too many clicks for TIO and is so cluttered looking- I hate it

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/12/2022 12:51

Apologies for posting so much. I thought the first post —or fourteen— didn’t post.
