New feature - save threads & posts

KatyMumsnet · 01/12/2022 11:55

Hi all,

During the course of our website upgrade we did a lot of user testing with Mumsnetters - one of the things they said they'd like was to be able to save interesting threads and posts to come back to later, so we’ve built a new save feature (on the website only for now) and you’ll soon see the save option appear on posts.

There are now 4 ways to curate the content you want to find again or be notified about:

  • I’m on - threads you’ve commented on
  • I started - threads you started
  • I’m watching - threads you want to see updates on and receive notifications about
  • Saved - threads & posts you’ve saved to come back to later
And we’ve grouped these under the umbrella term ‘My lists’ which you can access via the blue navigation bar at the bottom of the screen on mobile or via the ‘My Mumsnet’ menu (the person icon) in the top right on desktop or mobile when you’re logged in. We hope this will help new users understand how to use these features.

We’ve also slightly rejigged the design so you can save, share and report posts more easily.

We hope you find it useful and as always we welcome feedback!

Just put it back already.

ChessieFL · 01/12/2022 12:52

Please change it back. I want one click to get to threads I’m on plus the additional space taken up by the new bar at the bottom of each post is really annoying when viewing on a phone.

I also don’t get what the new save function offers that wasn’t already available by watching a thread.

Itsbeenashortyear · 01/12/2022 12:52

Honestly, this is poor. When improving a site you usually looking at making it easier to use and reduction of clicks. Not increasing them?

How do MN come up with these changes?

MarshaBradyo · 01/12/2022 12:54

The page is now half full of blue icons. Clunkier with more clicks

Really strange choices

ZeroFuchsGiven · 01/12/2022 12:56

Whats with the buttons on the bottom of every post, this is just awful! Luckily on desktop there is no my lists and its still the same but the buttons, WHY?

AndRashfordDancing · 01/12/2022 12:56

Please swap I'm watching for threads I'm on, loads of us have rolling conversations with other mnetters, I use it all the time to see if the threads I'm on all year have new replies. Watching topics are more likely to be temporary.

And the massive footer, I mean let's add birthday, birth, anniversary countdowns and bloody glitter.

Celeryfavour · 01/12/2022 12:58

No thank you.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 01/12/2022 12:59

Please put TIO back as a single click option.
If you have to get rid of an option across the bottom, I'm watching would be much higher better for me. Or the "Post" option.
Basically, you've left the 2 buttons I don't use, and removed one I do use.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 01/12/2022 13:00

Also what is the difference between "watching" and "saved" as options?

This! I feel like I’m back to being annoying but what did the UX say on this? Was it done?

Like lots of others on this thread, I use TIO to navigate quickly. I don’t think I’ve ever in the decade of using MN wanted to share a post with anyone. So that bottom bar feels very skewiff now, and clicking twice to move across TIO is so annoying.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 01/12/2022 13:01

My lists> two clicks instead of one to see the threads I’m on 👍👍👍

(that was sarcasm. It’s awful)

7Worfs · 01/12/2022 13:03

We need the I’m On back on the bottom ribbon, it’s essential for mobile users.

Please remove the fat ribbon under every post - terrible for mobile users as it fills the screen.

ChristmasCakeAndStilton · 01/12/2022 13:05

I've just seen another thread (not mine, yet another one!) With screen shots in. My bottom bar doesn't look anything like the ones on there. Definitely don't need a share button.
Report is used less often than TIO too.

Not well thought out, MNHQ

Lougle · 01/12/2022 13:08

Please, please change it back. Who tests UX at MNHQ?? To get to threads I'm on, I now have to navigate My Lists>TIO. I used to be able to navigate directly. Why would you introduce an extra step for users to get to where they want to be?

Also, most people will either 'reply' or 'quote', so it's those options that need to be readily available. Replying puts a thread on TIO. Watching puts it in watching, so why would we also need to save?

Lougle · 01/12/2022 13:10

With these changes, I can only see 4 lines of text without scrolling. 4 lines!! I have a fairly big screen, too (Samsung S10).

Lougle · 01/12/2022 13:11

Perhaps a little more if there isn't also an ad.

JackRosenberg · 01/12/2022 13:13

I like this, fits how I use the site better.

Mummylin · 01/12/2022 13:14

I was puzzled when I couldn't see where the "add message " had gone. Is the only way to add a new post now that you have to scroll to the bottom of the thread or am I missing something ? Why change things when previous problems haven't been fixed yet ? ( re ghost pm messages ) from last time you updated. I hate this change

I like the option to come back to something but not get endless notifications on it.

Newwardrobe · 01/12/2022 13:20

I use desktop on my phone and to get to TIO it's more clicks.

Judging by all of the negative responses, will you be changing it back?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 01/12/2022 13:21

Mildly irritating having to click twice rather than one to get to threads I'm on
I think you've fixed a problem that wasn't there..

Peridot1 · 01/12/2022 13:31

Whoever comes up with these ‘helpful’ ideas is more than a bit rubbish at it. Either not paid enough or paid too much so feel they have to constantly tweak things that didn’t need tweaking the the first place just to justify their existence.

AndRashfordDancing · 01/12/2022 13:33

Who would I want to share a post with?

People, have you ever shared a post?

AgathaMystery · 01/12/2022 13:34

Agree. Pls change it back.

I’m wondering if the back and front end team working on this are women who love and use MN. I hope so, but I know deep down they’re not.
