Format change

Hi, my format has changed where before it was an old style where I could just see the last few threads but now when I click on what I'm on, it's showing me everything.

When I came on mumsnet today, it forced me to login again and then the format has changed. How can I go back to the original? I'm on an android phone.

but is anyone else finding there are more ads? I have just looked at a thread with 3 ads in the first 11 posts…. on a phone that means a lot of scrolling to read the content.

@speckledrose you can organise by most recently updated which will keep things in a constant state of 'bump and reset' instead of having to trigger it. You can also organise the list by the date you watched things

I have a slight visual impairment and dyslexia (cant cope with all of the white) that's me unable to use - along with so many other websites that have done this. MSE, Head For Points

I do wish that they would be more disability friendly.

Just to say, I like that threads read aren’t highlighted in a different colour. Colour changing thread names (especially the blue to purple ones) are such an ugly, dated, inelegant UI feature, I deliberately view threads in my browser previewer to avoid it!

I’m not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, but for me the font is slightly fuzzy which makes it difficult to read.

Wow it’s awful! The words are too spaced out so it’s harder to read and I have to scroll more. Did you not take any feedback from user experience designers?

The old version was better because you can read large chunks of text at once. The new one is showing me 3 giant ads and the text portion is literally one sentence from one poster because there is so much vertical space taken up with useless shit like date, add message, bookmark etc. It feels like a clunky DIY blog interface from 2008-2012 (Blogspot, Livejournal, Wordpress days). This feels like the beginning of the end for MN tbh.

Lots of other little quirks that I'm surprised passed testing :-(

I'm v enthusiastic about the change in general, but there are many more QA tests required.

I remember thinking this last time there was some sort of upgrade. I don't know who runs acceptance testing, or put together the post migration test script, but it's a real weakness I've seen repeated again and again.

Awful. I have a narrow strip of text to the middle/left of the page, with a sea of white on either side, and the gaps between posts are far too big.

@KatyMumsnet a few more things.
I had a ‘you’ve been mentioned in a post’ email and a ‘someone has posted on the following thread’ email.
With the old format, when you clicked on the former it used to take you to the post in the thread where you’d been mentioned.
with the latter it took you to the point of the latest posts.
Now it takes you to the start of the thread, so you have to scroll through possibly hundreds of posts to find either where you’ve been mentioned, or where you left off.
Not efficient.

To be fair, many of these issues were raised during the beta phase. It seems the change has just been pushed ahead without addressing them because we'll all get used to it, right?

Specific issues today:

  • 501 error when trying to bookmark.
  • Big pop-up in black with MN logo at the top when trying to bookmark.
These are intermittent issues. It sometimes bookmarks correctly.

No return to last read post despite bookmarking.

I am not happy about this change. It's very uncomfortable to the eye.

This is awful.

Trying to read in a tiny, tight strip in the middle with gallons of ad space taking up more page than the content, and the fonts and lay out are a huge step downward from what there was before. Please switch it back!

You can change this, and a lot of the annoying defaults, under talk settings in your account.

It’s been a few minutes of using this format and I LOVE it!
I love the new font, the format, the clarity of the page everything.
Sorry, I can see that I’m on the losing side here but it works to well for my poor dyslexic brain. The whole site is just clearer, like I have put on glasses that actually work 😊

Wouldn't mind it, but the buttons seem a bit off. You click on page 3 for example on a thread, it highlights it so it should take you there, but it takes you to a different page. That didn't happen before.
