Format change

Hi, my format has changed where before it was an old style where I could just see the last few threads but now when I click on what I'm on, it's showing me everything.

When I came on mumsnet today, it forced me to login again and then the format has changed. How can I go back to the original? I'm on an android phone.

Feels like I'm having to make a real effort to read ... definitely not a fan

Theunamedcat · 20/04/2022 08:15

Can't skip to the end also the op is repeated on every page so you have to scroll scroll and scroll again everytime

LittleBearPad · 20/04/2022 08:15

It would be good if the font and spacing was more compressed. The formatting is wasting a lot of space and there’s no need for bookmarking to have its own line.

A lot more scrolling needed!

Lolabalola · 20/04/2022 08:16

Oh this is hideous, I liked mumsnet as it was so easy to see large bits of conversation at once and read the bits you wanted. The big gaps are just obstructive.
still might give me more free time 🤣

TheChurchOfEli · 20/04/2022 08:18

I know MN platform is super antiquated but this is a step backwards. It’s genuinely made me close the website this morning when I’d usually scroll around for a while during breakfast. I doubt I’ll be using the site as much now it’s terrible.

Volterra · 20/04/2022 08:18

Further to my previous post this is what is happening on my ipad.

Format change
Manzana · 20/04/2022 08:19

@KatyMumsnet hi, is there a way of highlighting threads that have been read on the Active Discussions list.? On the old style, ones I had clicked on were highlighted, helps me as I have a terrible memory.

FloraPostePosts · 20/04/2022 08:20

I quite like it! There’s greater clarity in the font, which is good for someone who at my age struggles with close work, and one brilliant, major change - when the cookies preferences page popped up, THERE IS NOW A REJECT ALL BUTTON! Thanks for sorting that out, MNHQ.

We’ll all get muscle memory for where the buttons are over the next few days, I’m sure. As far as I can see, pretty much all the same functions still exist, they just might be in different places.

Mumsnut · 20/04/2022 08:20

This is horrible. I'm a Premium member, so all I have is write space with some very highly spaced text in a narrow strip in the middle. It is very difficult to read.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 20/04/2022 08:21

I really don't like it at all. It looks like I'm reading some kind of text book or something. Space between the each comment is too big. Lost all the charm it had before.

22Newnames · 20/04/2022 08:21

To add to feedback,

i have an iPhone 13 mini and the page does not fit on the screen (mobile site). I have to pinch and shrink the page to fit on the screen width wise.

This exacerbâtes the issue of the text seeming smaller, thus making it harder to read.

But, there is finally a Reject All button for cookies, Yey!

Joy2TheWorld · 20/04/2022 08:21

I hate it 😩 waay too much space between posts, and u can't skip to the last page. Oh I do wish they hadn't mucked!

Mumsnut · 20/04/2022 08:21

White space, sorry

Fairislefandango · 20/04/2022 08:22

Why are 'threads I'm watching' all lumped in with 'Threads I'm on'?! It's really annoying - I only have a few threads I'm in, but gazillions I'm watching, because they are ones I've saved over many years to refer back to!

22Newnames · 20/04/2022 08:22

Oh, another point. On the threads I’m watching page it now shows the total number of posts in the thread rather than the number since I last pressed ‘watch’. This is frustrating as I want to know how many new posts there are, not the total.

Glamora · 20/04/2022 08:22

AnImaginaryCat · 20/04/2022 07:03

I'd say we'll be used to it fairly quick. Like any change!!

All I need to do is figure out how to get to the last post in a thread, so far I'm going to the start or middle (of a whole three attempts).

Not sure if anyone has answered
But the quickest way is to click on 'add post'

I have been using it for a while as notification emails take me to the start of the thread

JasmineTeacup · 20/04/2022 08:23

I'm on the app. I hate the changes to it. My watched threads have all lost my bookmarks and all the user names are highlighted in the same colour used for my own name (not that I post much) and I'm definitely logged in! I also have a load of threads that I watched then unwatched showing up in Watching again, including some that were deleted by MNHQ!

SillySallySassySausage · 20/04/2022 08:23

My old format was
OP - turquoise
My replies - red
Everyone else's replies - purple

Now everyone is red, including what I've written so it's very hard to follow.
All the threads that I've hidden have unhidden themselves. Annoying!

"I suspect this MN's attempt to bump us into using the premium version ..."

and if this is true, it won't work on me. I'd never pay for this (or any social media), no matter what.

22Newnames · 20/04/2022 08:25

And on the I’m watching page there is only the option to pin or remove threads, no longer a bump and reset which was really useful.

I am getting quite frustrated having to shrink the page every time I post/ go to a new page now…

Mumsnut · 20/04/2022 08:27

I'm cross this change has been made just after my Premium subs was taken I'd have cancelled otherwise. This is so difficult to read

prh47bridge · 20/04/2022 08:29

Looking at this on a PC, I think the new layout looks cleaner. However, there are a number of things I don't like:

  • it is too late now, but making everyone log in again was not user friendly
  • posts are narrower and offset to the left. This looks ok at the top of a thread where there are adverts, etc. on the right balancing the layout, but scrolling down just leaves a vast expanse of grey on the right and the narrowness of posts plus the font used means there is more scrolling to get to the bottom of the page
  • looking at a forum, there are five blank lines before we get to any of the threads. The html suggests these are supposed to carry ads from Google but none are appearing. It just looks like a bug. At the very least, if there is no ad to display the row should be hidden
  • thread links remain the same colour when I've visited the thread instead of changing to purple. That makes it harder to see which threads I'm on. Fixing that is a simple stylesheet change
  • The option to see all posts on a thread has disappeared. When I'm contributing to a long thread, I sometimes find that very useful so that I can review all posts from a particular poster
picklemewalnuts · 20/04/2022 08:29

Mine is getting better, minute by minute!

Hang in there. I was ready to ditch it earlier, but some issues have been ironed out already.

speckledrose · 20/04/2022 08:32

I’m finding this very difficult to read; I won’t be able to use the site as much if it stays this way.

There is far too much space between everything.

The only thing I like is the new ‘reject all’ button on the cookie settings.

prh47bridge · 20/04/2022 08:32

And another thing!

My last post contains bullet points. These showed as bullets when I was typing them in, which looked like an improvement. The html shows the bullets have been rendered as a ul, which is correct, but there are no bullet symbols! Another simple stylesheet change would fix that.

Took · 20/04/2022 08:32

Ewww, I hates it.

The new style looks more like old fashioned internet rather than new and fresh.
