Hi, my format has changed where before it was an old style where I could just see the last few threads but now when I click on what I'm on, it's showing me everything.

When I came on mumsnet today, it forced me to login again and then the format has changed. How can I go back to the original? I'm on an android phone.

My last post contains bullet points. These showed as bullets when I was typing them in, which looked like an improvement. The html shows the bullets have been rendered as a ul, which is correct, but there are no bullet symbols! Another simple stylesheet change would fix that.

JasmineTeacup · 20/04/2022 08:34

I've been to the website version and changed my highlight colours and refreshed the app and that now works on the app, but my bookmarks still aren't working. My bookmark is still there, but when I go out of the thread then back in, it takes my back to the top of thread.

On the plus side, on the website, I still have the option to 'see all'. Not that I use the website.

Halsall · 20/04/2022 08:35

I just came back to check on a thread and thought it had somehow accidentally opened in the app version (I use the desktop on my iPad, mainly).

I don’t like it, sorry. It's too spaced out and the acres of white amid the clunky boxes make it feel very distracting and somehow disconnected. Will keep using, however, and just hope it grows on me.

This is fun

Goes off to scream silently into the abyss. I'd an internet old-timer. I researched web design back when there nothing here and we had to work our arses off to coax people to even look at a screen or touch a mouse. There is so much piss-poor pre-packaged design around these days, with no thought whatsoever given to a seamless or graceful or intuitive user experience. No science of attention or feedback or usability is applied. It gets worse and worse, so much less done with vastly more power. Screams some more.

MadAngryCry · 20/04/2022 08:36

Another request for threads you've read titles to change colour again please. Lots of threads get similar titles so I'd like to be able to see which I've already read.

BestIsWest · 20/04/2022 08:37

I find it is much better if I turn my iPad sideways. Otherwise I only see thread titles not the date of the last post.

What I don’t see any more is the name of the last poster. Has this gone now?

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 20/04/2022 08:39

I'm getting 5 blank lines at the top of each board I visit (active / FWR / Site Stuff)

most odd

BestIsWest · 20/04/2022 08:39

Scrap that I can’t see the date either now.

There seems to be a lack of consistency between views.

TabithaTittlemouse · 20/04/2022 08:40

Hopefully this will be the thing that breaks my mn habit. Hurrah.

LunaLights · 20/04/2022 08:41

This new format feels clumsy and hurts my eyes! It feels very reminiscent of early forums and emails when they started up. I find myself squinting and trying to read it - but it is just hopeless. Very bad headache has resulted, so won’t try any more at present, it’s not for me!

30mph · 20/04/2022 08:42

It's horrible.

Stravaig · 20/04/2022 08:42

Notifications are dumping me at the very beginning of a thread, not at the first unread posts. No, I am not going to use 'Flip'. Ever.

Azizai · 20/04/2022 08:43

Where is the "Last Day" button?

ForeverWaitingInForParcels · 20/04/2022 08:44

What a hugely retrograde step!

Now much harder to navigate and oddly painful on the eyes to look at.

I used to use Mumsnet fairly regularly but will now probably step away. Talk about alienating your users, MN!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 20/04/2022 08:45

You can’t click directly onto the latest post in threads I’m on! You have to click on the thread which takes you back to the beginning Angry

glad to see you’ve retained the MN emojis though!

FloraPostePosts · 20/04/2022 08:46

One bit of feedback - please can we have back the threads turning purple when we have read them? (Or any other suitable way to distinguish them from unread threads)?

beastlyslumber · 20/04/2022 08:46

Yep, this is so bad.

As a pp said, maybe this will be the thing that breaks my MN habit. Maybe they've done us all (but not themselves) a favour!

Mizydoscape · 20/04/2022 08:46

Yeah I also can't see which threads I've already clicked on and which I haven't which is annoying.

I also have the blank lines for where the first few threads should be.

There appears to be no way to close an image if you click on it (there used to be an x). If I press back it takes me back to active (where I came from) not the thread.

Posting replies is a lot easier though, I don't have to press post twice.

Another one who'll not be frequenting quite so much going forward I think.

speckledrose · 20/04/2022 08:47

How do you ‘bump and reset’ on ‘threads I’m watching’? I use that all the time.

I have sight issues and this format is not comfortable for me to read.

TulipCat · 20/04/2022 08:48

I am getting used to it. I like that you can now customise it on your mobile without having to go to desktop. Just changed my posting colour back to lavender!

KatyMumsnet · 20/04/2022 08:50

@MaryStuart unfortunately some of the settings for colours have reset during the migration, but you can set them back up here if you're using the site through a browser and not the app - www.mumsnet.com/settings/talk

noodlezoodle · 20/04/2022 08:52

Oof. I suspect it's going to be a long day at MumsnetTowers....

I don't hate the overall new design which is much more modern, and has some great improvements, such as the rich text editing - no more need for tortuous formatting and link creation. I was also excited that not only have you added all the standard emojis, but you've kept the traditional mumsnet emojis - right up until I tried adding them to a post, at which point I repeatedly got a very threatening full screen error saying I don't have access to mumsnet.

I don't see threaded discussions - is this supposed to be an option? I hope it's part of the upgrade.

I'm seeing a bunch of bugs or design fails - why are my posts in green, the same as the OPs? Apparently I could change it but why do I have to... and if I have to, it would have been helpful to receive an email telling me about this.

In fact it would have been useful to have an email letting me know the site would be down for a few hours while you upgraded - or at least a banner on the site a few days ahead with the outage info. I imagine most mnetters are going to be unnecessarily blindsided by the change, which could have been avoided.

When I'm looking at my 'I'm watching' list, none of the links to individual posts work; I can only go to the thread title. I used to be able to look at the most recent post and go to that, which was an important feature.

Lots of other little quirks that I'm surprised passed testing :-(

I'm v enthusiastic about the change in general, but there are many more QA tests required.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 20/04/2022 08:52

I hate on "threads I'm on" that I can't just tap the most recent comment, I have to tap on that teeny arrow on the far right.

bettys · 20/04/2022 08:52

Where is MN Classic?? I used to be able to choose that in my settings but it doesn’t seem to be there any more. I hate have the first post as a sticky I don’t wish to see the same bloody paragraph every time I check on a thread! I’ve been on MN for 20 years this may be the first time I flounce!!
