Format change

Eesha · 20/04/2022 06:54

Hi, my format has changed where before it was an old style where I could just see the last few threads but now when I click on what I'm on, it's showing me everything.

When I came on mumsnet today, it forced me to login again and then the format has changed. How can I go back to the original? I'm on an android phone.

🫥

Well that is pretty annoying! grrrrrr

@Furries I'm just sending you my compliments on your cat as a way to check whether I can post because I've tried four times on another thread and it won't let me.

Ha, thank you! He looks even more gorgeous if the photo is displayed in a larger size like the old format. However, am glad that you’ve been able to post a response - hope you continue to be able to do so on other threads. If not, said cat is quite happy to make his way to HQ to dole out some disapproving stares 🤣

FlibbertyGiblets · 21/04/2022 00:09

Obvs am rubbish at doing the quote thingy, sigh.

Gorgeous kitty [heart eyes]

Gorgeous Kitty sends you a head-bop and a purr to say thank you 🐾💕

KloppsTeeth · 21/04/2022 00:10

I hate it too. What with the blue band across the middle all the time? Really upsets my eyes, and I have a visual impairment so not easy to use now at all.

What blue band?

BenefitsTimingHelp · 21/04/2022 00:26

HATING the new platform just hate it. Keep having to login repeatedly, I've mentioned on the pm thread the issues there, can't CLICK onto the last post on a thread on the site, "I'm on" and "active" jumps all over the shop on app and site,

Why on earth change something that was perfectly ok ? If it ain't broke , don't fix it!

This with bells on!

@Thisisit2022 I think that killed Mse to be honest it's not nearly as busy as it was it's murder to use now

To answer the question I KNOW is coming (but still annoys when asked cos really you should be ensuring it works on all devices and browsers! Certainly the most popularly used ones like apples!) I'm on iPhone using app plus on safari (well not on safari actually as it's horrific on there!) and on ms edge on my laptop

I suspect this MN's attempt to bump us into using the premium version ...

Probably

But even as @Mumsnut is a premium user and it's apparently bad for them too foot being shot comes to mind

@Stravaig I'm coming at this from a similar perspective. I helped design a website back when dial up and msn were still cutting edge! Why on earth certain companies insist on still using poor cookie cutter software I do not know! It's self sabotage to be honest

If you want your site/business to be successful and usable pay decent IT people for bespoke software

and not the app

And you do know most people would prefer to use the app these days? Tbh I think you missed a trick in not getting the app sorted so users can name change and pm from it

In fact it would have been useful to have an email letting me know the site would be down for a few hours while you upgraded

Yes why wasn't there at the very least a pinned post on this for at least a week prior?

you can organise by most recently updated which will keep things in a constant state of 'bump and reset' instead of having to trigger it. You can also organise the list by the date you watched things

How?

To be fair, many of these issues were raised during the beta phase. It seems the change has just been pushed ahead without addressing them because we'll all get used to it, right?

Which renders a beta phase pointless! And proves the changes were rushed in

Worst change for me is that each comment now has a header (name, timestamp) and footer (action buttons), whereas before all that action was in one clear neat straight line along the top. More separation between comments, more pulling the eye and brain in different directions, much harder to follow the thread of conversation!! No, no, no! Please, no ...

Yes the footer (itself preceded by a white space) is taking up so much room in the already spaced out thread.

It looks as if it was designed for kindy kids to read.

Even freaking Gransnet looks good in comparison. I checked.

milkyaqua · 21/04/2022 00:30

And the one place it could do with a bit of spacing is below the attached quote. It's so tight there, and then space space space and glare everywhere else.

PitchImperfect · 21/04/2022 00:40

I hate it. It just feels blocky & unfriendly & makes me feel anxious.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 21/04/2022 00:55

😫Not keen at all, sorry MN.

SquirrelG · 21/04/2022 01:24

For goodness sake people, it's really not that difficult to work out - I daresay I am older than a lot of you and I'm coping just fine.

Nothing to do with “coping”. It’s not functioning properly (ie notifications aren’t taking you to the last post you read). Plus it looks shite!

BenefitsTimingHelp · 21/04/2022 01:57

On the app now and all that's coming up in active is a ton of zombie threads one as far back as 2009 and I'm guessing it's cos this happened to others too and they've thought they were new threads and posted on them

Utter disaster

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 21/04/2022 04:05

I’m ND and have tried hard over last 24 hours, but everything a bit triggering for me. Don’t think I can continue to use it (at least not via my current devices).
Which is probably a good thing as I’ve spent far too much time on this site over the last 16 years.

So people aren't experiencing the myriad of issues reported on this thread alone?

AnastasiaRomanov · 21/04/2022 06:54

MN can you please go back to the way things were?
I really really hate everything about the new format.
Also there seem to be many more ads. Personally. I never read the ads, and don’t suppose others do either. It’s just annoying having to scroll through them.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 21/04/2022 07:33

Another thing I don't like is that to go to the last post of a watched thread I have to go all the way to the arrow on the right. I used to be able to click on the whole link.

It's a small thing, but it's annoying.

No. I've experienced none.

It would be interesting to know what OS/platform people access MN on.

I agree with that-having not being able to just press on quote!

speckledrose · 21/04/2022 08:07

Thanks for the info on bump and reset; that’s a good idea being able to see all recently updated threads at the top.

However I just caught up on this thread then went to ‘I’m watching’ and it’s still showing multiple lines from the last three posts on it, so this one thread is still taking up most of (the first page of) the my ‘I’m watching’ page even though I’ve read those three posts. Previously you could ‘bump and reset’ and it would clear all the posts which had been read so you just had one line from the last post showing, which took up no room at all.

bestbefore · 21/04/2022 08:46

It also has that thing where you click on a thread from active, then go back to active and active has moved so you've lost your place. Def used to stick where it was and you could resume looking down the list so to speak.

ClinkeyMonkey · 21/04/2022 08:51

Just noticed this too. I only realised when a couple of the thread titles looked strangely familiar - I think I might even have posted on them at the time! Then I started checking the dates the threads on Active were created and loads of them are from last year and some going back further. Really irritating.
Blondeshavemorefun · 21/04/2022 08:55

Furries · 20/04/2022 23:28

Having a coloured bar for each post header made it much easier visually to make the distinction between separate posts - just having things in bold doesn’t work as well visually.

@Furries looks like you have old version of desktop. How did you get that
