Hello everyone.

After a bump in the road on last week’s attempt (sorry about that) we’re re-platforming Mumsnet Talk tonight. Because of this, the site will be down from midnight tonight (19/4) until 5am on Wednesday (20/4) morning.

For those of us resistant to change - don’t panic! The functionality of the site won’t change very much for now apart from some improvements to existing features like search and private messages. Our plan is to add more features/make updates once we are settled into the new platform.

However, there are a few things that you should be aware of before logging in tomorrow:

The first time you log on to Mumsnet post-replatforming you will need to remember your password. If you can’t (and let’s face it, few of us can) then you’ll need to reset your password. Sorry if that’s a pain - but it is the only secure way to do this.

You may need to update your browser. If you still view Mumsnet on an older browser you may experience compatibility problems with images, videos and links not working properly and you might not be able to post on a thread or fill in a form. To ensure you avoid these kinds of issues, we suggest you update your browser. Please click here for more information about re-platforming and how to update your browser.

And, not forgetting a massive thank you and unMumsnetty hugs to everyone who helped us test the new platform. You’re all stars. Star

If you’ve got any questions or comments, please add them to this thread.

Thank you.

@Scrahilliv if you go to My Mumsnet and select Settings, then Talk settings you can choose how many posts you see per page.

If anyone know how to access the Advanced search option then please let me know!

worraliberty · 20/04/2022 17:00

Love the emojis! 😎😍

AchillesPoirot · 20/04/2022 17:02

Thanks @otherbookmarks

The whole site is a mess. The app is not great either. It's a bit shambolic.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2022 17:02

@MNHQ - is anything being done to fix the unusable date slider on the desktop version?

Even manually its impossible to use. I would love to meet the UI designer who thought that a juddery slider compressing 22 years of history into 5 cm was "usable" even for normal hands, let alone anyone trying to use access software which can't do a damned thing with that slider.

At least offer the option of entering dates.

Disabled users are more likely than average to use advanced search to reduce the work needed to find stuff on the site. So its another fail on accessibility testing as well as fail on functionality for all users.

@EarringsandLipstick

And reiterating again - bookmarks aren't working on the app
Ah, just came back on to check whether this was fixed. Nope.

C8H10N4O2 · 20/04/2022 16:46

Apologies @PuppyMonkey. I was trying to respond to @SueMumsnet 's post about the vast testing effort. Something odd seems to have changed between preview, edit and post my response which showed quotes for the correct post. No idea what happened and at this stage - losing the will to keep trying!

I was wondering what I’d done wrong for a minute there.Grin

anotherneutralname · 20/04/2022 17:11

Just discovered on iPad ap, "go to post" doesn't work either (when you filter to see an OPs posts, and then want to navigate to their last one, it just bounces you back to the very start of the thread).

AchillesPoirot · 20/04/2022 17:14

I've now been logged out on safari and can't log in

If anyone know how to access the Advanced search option then please let me know!

I think that Search and Advanced Search have been combined. If I click on the magnifying glass, then "filters", it gives some of the old AS options.

SunshineCake · 20/04/2022 17:34

Still making me reject consent after EVERY SINGLE ACTION and can't open my PMs

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 20/04/2022 17:37

It's definitely a bit wonky in some areas...

I got a massive Mumsnet logo up in front of the page (like opening a photo) then everything disappeared!

New Talk launching tonight - please read!
rainbowandglitter · 20/04/2022 17:40

It looks no different to me on the app but all the threads in active aren't refreshing and they appear to all be threads that were started ages ago but people are now commenting on them. I've not been able to read anything all day as it's the same old threads sitting there.

What's going on?

prettybird · 20/04/2022 17:40

Little steps on the app: at least threads that you've read but on which there are no new posts are now changing colour, so that you know you don't need to open them.

Just as well though, as the bookmark function still isn't working Shock, so the thread opens every time back at the start, you have to flip it and then scroll back to where you'd got to the previous time - and then read the new posts by scrolling up Hmm Which is particularly irritating if the individual posts are long Angry

rainbowandglitter · 20/04/2022 17:40

Also all of my bookmarks have gone from the threads on I'm or watching.

SoMuchToBits · 20/04/2022 17:43

@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams thank you! I've just had a look, but don't like that slider thing for choosing the date range. Much more clunky than choosing specific dates.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/04/2022 17:47

I think it's remarkable that MN haven't been back to this thread for most of that day, and no updates on most of the issues raised.

Violetparis · 20/04/2022 17:49

On a mobile phone the huge spacing makes it difficult to read and is just a waste. Please do something about it, it's now so awful to use.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 20/04/2022 18:09

@EarringsandLipstick

I think it's remarkable that MN haven't been back to this thread for most of that day, and no updates on most of the issues raised.
On Twitter they've said they're doing 'a few minor tweaks' - presumably, they're leaving the omnishambles to fix later!
Anomalocaris · 20/04/2022 18:34

The search 'functionality' is dreadful.

But really frustrating is that it appears that topics I've hidden from Active have been hidden on the topics list. I can't be the only one who hides stuff from active that I am interested in but, for all sorts of reasons, only visit as an active choice.

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 20/04/2022 18:36

Another voice saying this update is bloody awful. I can't put my finger on why I don't like it, but it's hurting my eyes because it's really hard to read.

Ach well, tata mumsnet - might actually talk to my DH and DD now.....

MadameFantabulosa · 20/04/2022 19:00

I’m tired of having to log in every time I go and look at another site, still leaving the MN tab open.

Why is it that every time you upgrade or update something, it is an utter shower of shit? Do you employ tech people or have you got an intern and a couple of monkeys on the case?

RantyAunty · 20/04/2022 19:01

For anyone who thinks tech is easy, this is an example of why it's not easy and why experienced people charge so much.

It's also a good example of why crowdsourced or free user testers aren't the same as skilled professional testers. 5 or so professional testers vs 200 random people and the 5 professional testers win every time.

I'm sure this site will get the kinks worked out and credit due for giving a mostly functional new site.

workwoes123 · 20/04/2022 19:04

@RantyAunty

i totally agree, and I have some sympathy for MN. I manage a website that is built on WIX, it’s utterly straightforward and simple compared to MN - and it’s still a nightmare. So many variations in terms of devices, OSs, ways of using the site - the variations are endless and it’s really hard to test for them all.
