Three times today I have been forced to confirm my cookies settings even when trying to load the next page in a thread can you please sort this as it's getting really annoying

It’s not even every few minutes. I just toggled every single one to Off, pressed Submit. Went back in, they are all reset to On.
It’s not unreasonable to expect your preferences to stay set to Off. Most people wouldn’t even check it had stayed as they set it, why would they?
This is fundamental stuff with legislation behind it. If it isn’t working properly then it all needs to be set to Off while the tech team sort it out.
Not we’ll take your data because it’s not working properly.

Shynapple · 29/10/2020 08:22

I know I meticulously declined all legitimate interest settings. I work in marketing, I know that I do NOT want my data to be harvested. I just checked the privacy settings in the footer and what do you know... everything that I declined is enabled! This goes against GDPR Mumsnet and you must be aware of that. Making the vendor list inconspicuous must also not be an oversight. Disappointing.

Please would @MNHQ confirm that this has been done, and when it was done

plasticboxesrock · 29/10/2020 08:36

I agree with the previous posters. I don't expect to have to do this multiple times - there should be a reject all button which works, without MN sneakily over-riding consent. And it needs to be simply accessible, not hidden away in a filing cabinet behind a locked door with a sign saying "beware of the leopard", etc.

Come on MN, sort it out.

tiredbuthappytoday · 29/10/2020 08:37

This! I un-ticked everything less than an hour ago (for the 3rd time), just rechecked and most of it has re-set.

AdoptAdaptImprove · 29/10/2020 08:48

My settings have once again reverted to the default. This is now well beyond what could be excused by a tech glitch.

@MNHQ , it’s time we had a proper answer about this issue. You should have disabled all cookies until you have investigated and found out why this is happening (if you don’t already know - it looks very deliberate to the user).

I would like to see a copy of the report you have made to the ICO about this breach of GDPR, please, given that you have a legal obligation to report within 72 hours of the breach being discovered.

Shynapple · 29/10/2020 08:48

Come to think of it, I've recently been targeted with display ads for funeral services. I am currently grieving and have been browsing the bereavement threads on mumsnet and external sites. I can't prove that's come from cookies on Mumsnet but I know I will be avoiding the site until I am confident that my choices are respected.

Frdd · 29/10/2020 09:11

Copying this from the AIBU thread:

I turned them all off the first time but got so fed up yesterday I just accepted all.

Does anyone know - if I’ve accepted all and then turn them all off - is anything that might scrape data left behind as a result of me previously accepting all?

TruckinRight · 29/10/2020 09:12

That's appalling.💐
Tissueboxcover · 29/10/2020 09:24

I have just spent a couple of minutes going through and setting my preferences. Went back a few seconds later to check and the ones I switched off have all been switched on again.

Frdd · 29/10/2020 09:32

I just went and turned off cross site tracking and turned on don’t allow cookies on my safari and I deleted my history.

Couldn’t get in at all and was constant,y getting thr pop up and turning them all off and going back and back.

Only way I could get logged in was to allow cookies, and allow cross site tracking in safari and accept all in the pop up.

Frdd · 29/10/2020 09:35

Safari. iPad. iOS 13.6.1

Cabinfever10 · 29/10/2020 10:27

Hi @MNHQ you are still ignoring my chosen privacy settings resetting them to allow cookies that even store offline data, this both unacceptable and bordering on illegal data mining when will this be sorted?

OP posts:
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 29/10/2020 10:29

It's fixed itself without me having to change anything else - hooray!

Saucery · 29/10/2020 10:39

Mine still reverting to default.

BabbleBee · 29/10/2020 10:44

Mine still reverting to the default setting of ‘on’.

Cabinfever10 · 29/10/2020 10:51

Me too

OP posts:
AuntieStella · 29/10/2020 11:03

It appears there is no update yet from the tech team.

When shall we get one?

As you know, good practice when there is an online site issue is for the site to provide regular updates, even when the issue has not been resolved, in order to assure users that it is being worked on and when the next update will be given.

I hope that MN will adopt that practice. And that the privacy issues raised on this thread - has any unconsented info reached third parties and how will MN arrange for any info it passed to third parties to be erased by the recipients. -will be addressed ASAP

Cabinfever10 · 29/10/2020 11:40

Why is it that if I set my browser settings to no 3rd party cookies mn logs me out and bombards me with cookies settings requests and won't let me login?
If you can't reject cookies on this site or with your browser how is this following GDPR regulations?

OP posts:
AdoptAdaptImprove · 29/10/2020 11:41

Mine is still reverting immediately. I’m using Safari on iOS 14.0.

I’ve tried changing my preferences on a couple of US sites I use and those have been saved, so it’s not a general problem.

Ginkypig · 29/10/2020 12:16

Still broken

The pop up issue has stopped for me but it still resets as I have literally just tested it by setting it came out and immediately went back in to check it and all the legitimate interests were back on!

I suggest everyone test this regularly so you know if mnhq have fixed the theft of our data.

by going to the very bottom of the page and clicking on privacy settings. Sorry if app is different.

Set it to your preferences

Save it which closes the window

Then open the window again by clicking on privacy settings (like step one) and if it is working all the toggles you turned off should still be off

Mnhq will tell you (like they told me on the other thread) that it stays saved as long as you don’t open it again but

1, I don’t actually trust them due to their recent behaviour to decide that that is actually true

2, that means every single new toggle or advertisers etc they add after you have saved and closed it will be on and you can’t go in to check them or change them unless you are willing for them to all to be on and be ok with turning them all off again.

I couldn’t even view the site when I’d cleared my cookies without going in and accepting all.

So if I’m not logged in as a member, what is the basis for processing my data including all that extra stuff in the vendors?

I haven’t done that but I’m going to as that means that any changes I’ve made on the tool have done nothing as they have obviously embedded already! that is disgusting behaviour. Infact I think it’s time we started making official complaints to the relevant bodies.
AuntyPonsonby · 29/10/2020 13:27

And one of the buttons when I looked said something about offline data. What do you mean by that?

I suspect that nice ladies aren't supposed to worry their pretty little heads over all this. We're supposed to click "accept all" and get back to discussing knitting and make-up tips Hmm

soniamumsnet · 29/10/2020 15:33

Hi, thanks for all your reports. We're taking a look into this and will keep you informed of any new developments. Flowers
