Advertisers pulling because of swearing

Fuck me, MNHQ, is this true?

Top brands pull ads as Mumsnet users turn the air blue

I completely get brands not wanting to be associated with racism, sexism, disablism etc - all of which are rightly banned on MN. But are people that bothered by swearing?

Please tell me you're not going to ban swearing, MNHQ!

From a lifetime of watching adverts I guess it doesn't match up to how advertising execs think women ought to behave, most of them seem stuck in the 1950s.

At least we will know that the people who do still advertise here don't want to stick us in some cutsey 'mum' box and actually want to sell their products to real women.

honeysucklejasmine · 19/08/2017 08:02

Lol! Off you fuck then, National Trust.

scaryclown · 19/08/2017 08:02

The times being threatened by online media isn't a news story! They will be trying to breathe the idea that advertising with the times is better for an advertiser.. But I suspect advertisers here are targeting women, not men who think they run the country

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/08/2017 08:02

I do think that thread titles shouldn't have swear words in. I'm sorry but I do! i know posters like to swear and I'm more than happy, but to me it should be within the confines of the thread.

insancerre · 19/08/2017 08:03

I bet even the fucking queen swears

MorrisZapp · 19/08/2017 08:04

Sexism is banned on MN?

Saucery · 19/08/2017 08:04

It's a shame Martine McCutcheon isn't of the same mind as she's been at the top of my page gurning away for a while now

impostersyndrome · 19/08/2017 08:04

I'm with the advertisers, I'm afraid. For a site that's meant to be full of women more intelligent than average, I'm astonished at how sweary it is. In no way does it reflect my reality at home or at work.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/08/2017 08:05

Saucery Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 19/08/2017 08:05

I hate the swearing on MN,it's so try hard. I agree about no swearing in thread titles.

AlternativeTentacle · 19/08/2017 08:08

being sweary does not mean the swearer is less intelligent. being non sweary does not give you a higher IQ.

being on here does not mean you have a higher IQ either.m

lynmilne65 · 19/08/2017 08:09

I don't feel swearing adds anything but detracts

ooerrmissus · 19/08/2017 08:10

I've got an IQ of 145. Fucking intelligent.

Swearing has yet to reduce my IQ one iota.

Any advertisers that can't deal with it can FOTTFSOFATFOSM.

Paffle · 19/08/2017 08:10

I could get on board with no swearing in thread titles. I swear like a trooper but I accept that if you don't like swearing, sweary thread titles can be a bit "in your face".

I personally appreciate the ability to swear in posts though. Can be a real outlet for frustration and also a source of genius creativity.

Is there a correlation between swearing and spending money?
Do people who swear spend less on stuff?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/08/2017 08:16

Nothing's changed though. MN has been sweary since the start & they're only just noticing????

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 19/08/2017 08:16

I don't object to the swearing but some of the words used on here (by others) are not ones I would ever use IRL. I hate them.

OddBoots · 19/08/2017 08:17

Well, there are studies that show swearing reduces physical pain, so maybe it also works for the emotional and existential pain that some products depend upon for their sales.

fusspot66 · 19/08/2017 08:18

Good. I hate those fucking adverts.

fusspot66 · 19/08/2017 08:19

But how does it affect Ford's reputation, that people who swear on an Internet forum, are forced to see their adverts?

fusspot66 · 19/08/2017 08:21

Fucking Naked Smoothies now.
I buyneither brand.

fusspot66 · 19/08/2017 08:24

I can't read the bastard Times article in full because it requires a subscription.

fusspot66 · 19/08/2017 08:27

Must get off my bloody arse and do something now. Tempus fugit. It's taking ages correcting the swear words my auto correct tries to change.
I have enjoyed this sweary vent.
Have a nice day, everyone. It's pissing rain here

impostersyndrome · 19/08/2017 08:28

I imagine they're pulling out because they assume that some people are put off threads that are full of foul language.

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 19/08/2017 08:29
