Advertisers pulling because of swearing

Fuck me, MNHQ, is this true?

Top brands pull ads as Mumsnet users turn the air blue

I completely get brands not wanting to be associated with racism, sexism, disablism etc - all of which are rightly banned on MN. But are people that bothered by swearing?

Please tell me you're not going to ban swearing, MNHQ!

The swearing and vulgarity are going to affect advertising revenue

OTOH - there are people who appreciate it and are more than happy to be on a forum that treats them like adults. And MN does seem to have a lot of users.

Which means that advertisers are keen to advertise to MNers.

The swearing and vulgarity are going to affect advertising revenue. Better think more seriously about biting the hand that feeds you
Twaddle (look at me not swearing😇) What you mean is WOMEN-KNOW YOUR PLACE.
There's a great word in Australian slang-wowzers. Could be applied to a few posters here.(I'm not referring to those who choose not to swear, but those who get riled up about others people choosing to.)

Advertisers have morals, interesting concept.

SnickersWasAHorse · 20/08/2017 10:11

Why are people still offended by swearing. It is a collection of sounds. It's not like racism or sexism. Words like shit or bollocks are not disablist or racist words.
What is the difference between me writing sh*t and shit in a grown up situation?

Or is it not ladylike?

insancerre · 20/08/2017 10:17

Are the men allowed to swear on mumsnet?

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 20/08/2017 10:20

I swear.
There's nothing wrong with my morals. I also spend money.

The swearing and vulgarity are going to affect advertising revenue.

If anything it's been toned down since the start, Nina2b. Cunting Sainsburys went into Classics in 2007.

Although whether Sainsburys advertise on MN I don't know...

AdoraBell · 20/08/2017 10:25

Can't open the fucking link on my bastard phone, will check it later.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/08/2017 11:22

I've linked to it previously on the thread, Adora, but I think it bears repeating because it makes the point that MN has always been like this.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 20/08/2017 11:28

I doubt this story has much truth in it. Personally I don't like swearing. I don't swear in real life or on here.

I don't think adding "fuck" "cunt" or whatever adds anything to the strength of any point being made.

I find the "creative" swearing very tedious and not remotely funny.

I will no doubt be told to "fuck off to NetMums, hun" or similar by posters who think expressing an opinion about swearing is the same as telling them not to swear.

acatcalledjohn · 20/08/2017 11:57

Advertisers worry about swearing, yet music gets through the censors with overtly sexually explicit references, not to mention the music videos which are practically pornography. Yet they'll still be in the ad breaks of the TV & radio stations that play this stuff, because the word 'fuck' has been bleeped out.

It's a fucked up reality.

Give me swear words any day, especially the creative MN swear words.

CatsAreAssholes · 20/08/2017 13:57

Swearing and dropping a baby. It's not perfect around these parts but I like their style
