Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

OP posts:

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2016 15:44

I think we're supposed to gasp in horror and fall over ourselves to apologize for our lack of sensitivity............

BertrandRussell · 19/11/2016 15:46

Bob- how's your WhatsApp group feeling about this thread? All highly amused as usual?

TeacherBob · 19/11/2016 15:47

What insensitivity?

And what whatsapp group? I didn't mention one in this thread??

Saucery · 19/11/2016 15:48

I have no interest in discussing your individual posts or your experience of MN, TB

My posts are general observations and not aimed at you or about you.

I'm an attempt to get the thread back on track...

MNHQ, could you explain why you can't contact us via PM as well as sending us an email? Since the whole Jeffrey thing I think more people are using random email addresses rather than ones that they would check regularly.

BeyondTheHarpy · 19/11/2016 19:17

Yy bumbley. My mn email address is literally just for mn and twitter now!

Hi bumbley,

Thanks for this. It's because our reports system is not integrated into the site, we use a mailing system that sends an email and not a PM. It makes managing emails much easier and searchable, our PM system doesn't have the bells and whistles that we'd need to manage the site as admins.

bumbleymummy · 19/11/2016 22:09

Thanks Rebecca.

Could you not still send a PM separately though? I know it's probably extra hassle but I think it might help defuse things before they get too heated on threads. Sometimes the 'Ahem' on a thread is enough of a warning for people to settle down a bit or rethink how they're posting but even that isn't always given. Just finding yourself unable to post with no warning or explanation seems a bit unfair.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2016 22:12

Thanks for the explanation, Rebecca - hmm, doesn't sound easy to fix but it does seem like just emailing may not really be fit for purpose nowadays, both because of the 'jeffrey' thing and also people using pads or phones for mn which they might not pick up their email on.

BeyondTheHarpy · 19/11/2016 22:54

Not talking about myself here Grin but I can see that some people - when they think they are the ones in the right - they could think the isn't aimed at them but at the other 'side'. So I think in those type of situations (if not all as all would be a PITA) a PM might help diffuse it?

YonicProbe · 19/11/2016 23:27

I agree with Bumbley.

That's twice now, blimey!

Wink

What if the PM was just auto text - "check your email for an important message from MNHQ" say?
