Rules around banning?

TheUnworthy · 13/11/2016 21:54

Feeling a little nervous after the recent thread that went 'poof' and reports of people being banned and not knowing why/not having any deleted posts beforehand.

Is there a three strike rule? No strikes?

OP posts:

'What envelope? the inbox envelope.'

my MN app is utterly devoid of envelopes. Maybe I've turned something off or not turned something on. Confused

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 20:48

The app doesn't 'do' PMs, Errol. There's nothing for you to turn off or on.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2016 20:57

That's what I thought.. and surely loads of people use the app some or all of the time.

StrictlyPan · 17/11/2016 21:05

And we are sleepily content with that style Yonic. Don't encourage traffic, it's pacey enough.

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 21:19

But I don't know how many of the people using the app send or receive PMs, Errol. You're not going to get the full functionality of the main site on an app - at the moment, anyway - and that's one of the casualties. If you're being notified that a PM has been sent by email, it's not too burdensome to make the occasional trip to a browser to read it, surely - even if you use mostly the app?

pklme · 17/11/2016 21:24

Can I find out where a thread has gone and why? There was a breastfeeding in an interview post... And there have been others. On my app, it just says message deleted, nothing else.

I'm worrying a bit about saying and doing the wrong thing.

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:43

Cozie, Errol is checking her email! But lots of us use email addresses for MN we don't use elsewhere after security issues here.

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:44

Hence doing both is the best idea!

YonicProbe · 17/11/2016 21:45

I mean MNHQ sending both

cozietoesie · 17/11/2016 21:49

Or not, as the case may be. Wink (See the third or fourth thread down from this one. Smile)

MaQueen · 18/11/2016 17:06

I think MNHQ contacting you via a PM is an excellent idea. I genuinely can't remember which email address I registered under, it was that long ago...

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2016 14:14

Just for some context: Teacherbob went into FWR, made sexist jokes, patronised women, told women they were wasting time debating sexist behaviour when children were dying etc etc.

I guess MNHQ might be a bit more trigger happy on the ban button when that behaviour happens in FWR because lots of trolls go there to do exactly that kind of thing. Especially as it was half term.

Ah, hysterical. Always a helpful comment.

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2016 14:31

You said you would give up your seat to a fit bird with big tits (or something like that).

In FWR.

TeacherBob · 19/11/2016 14:35

Yes I did.

  1. I apoligised
  2. I said it AFTER I was told I was a shit teacher who should get the sack, because I would stand on the seat on a bus.

It was just frustration

Different meaning of the word 'mental'

And how is it sexist? I wasn't labelling a gender with it

StrictlyPan · 19/11/2016 14:39

you surely know the greek 'hysteria'? Bob?

TeacherBob · 19/11/2016 14:43

no, I don't speak greek

ErrolTheDragon · 19/11/2016 14:46

The thread was unfortunately deleted (which the other posters were generally annoyed about) so TB can (mis)represent it any way he wants. Rehashing old deleted threads is bad form and so boring so maybe we'd all better desist, this one is also liable to be merailed.

StrictlyPan · 19/11/2016 14:50

Google it? Might see why it's severely frowned up as a sexist insult and why men are rarely if ever called 'hysterical'.

True Errol - thread hiding taking place now.

TeacherBob · 19/11/2016 14:51

WTF, I didn't even bring it up again, Noble did!

noblegiraffe · 19/11/2016 14:52

Apologies for bringing up posts from a deleted thread.

My more general point was that if you do and say things that trolls say and do, then don't be too surprised if you are treated like a troll.

E.g. Going into SEN and saying ADHD is poor parenting
Going into FWR and saying 'as a man I think you're all wrong'
Going into AIBU and saying 'I just found my DH has a secret phone full of pictures of him wearing suspenders, a corset and a Donald Trump mask, please help'
Going into Education and saying 'shall I let my DS wear these plimsolls to school?' (+ pic of flimsy girls shoes)

JustAnotherSadOldNumber · 19/11/2016 14:53

Don't feel like searching as these things always lead back to asylums and mistreatment.
I'm guessing it's not the same as hysterics, as in laughing a lot?
