Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. We do regard deliberate, malicious misgendering (as opposed to accidental slip ups) as transphobic. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post thoughtfully here. We understand folks will want to talk more about pronouns and trans issues in general on another thread perhaps - but we would ask that you do so in way that doesn't rehash or repeat this thread. ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

Fucking brilliant.

AND FOR THE RECORD THE PERSON'S PRONOUNS ARE 'THEY'

A vile misogynist was "misgendered" be being called he, because we can not even discuss who is doing this.. It is he's. It is men.

they was not even a thing 5 years ago. If I today demanded my pronouns be "Vagina owner" would everyone have to respect that?

Creeping I think that they are just getting their legal team to check. I think its very sad that MNHQ can't see the dangers of their position and what it means for women.

Stat

OOO! There's some good ol' Venns

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/08/2016 22:33

rainbunny I think the misogyny comes from the misogyny they grew up with from boyhood upwards. They have a set stereotype of what women are/should be, and therefore cannot see why they can't behave in the way they expect women to behave, nor why it should be seen as objectionable. I think this is why many oppose feminism too - it goes against what they see through the prism of man, as the feminine ideal. As to why they want to take on the role of an oppressed group? Well, I suppose there are always people who like to play what I call the "oppression olympics" (only played by people who aren't actually, genuinely oppressed). There are also the masochists. You know, like those who like to get tied up and spanked? There are those that like to be different - the modern day version of emo/goth. They want all this, but when they can't cope, fall back on their male privilege to get themselves out.

AskBasil · 25/08/2016 22:50

Every time I see a post from Japab I immediately think "blah blah blah blah mansplain mansplain mansplain blah blah blah".

I don't get any further than that.

I think that's probably the most appropriate response.

Nibledbyducks · 25/08/2016 22:52

So hang on if "Ada Wells" wnts to identify as of the traditional female gebder role shoud we not all be patting them on the head and saying "Don't worry your pretty little head about it all, you're a woman and couldn't possibly understand."? As Gender is a social contruct then surely trans women can't be feminist as feminists are trying to break down defined gender roles and fight for the rights of biological sex removed from those gender roles. How can you believe in ender roles and simultaneously fight against them?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2016 22:54

Has anyone been banned since the original thread?

They'll need to ban an awful lot of posters - there's over two hundred different posters on the Spartacus thread, all posting "transphobic" posts...

Soubriquet · 25/08/2016 22:55

I tried to join Reddit but for some reason I can't even sign up to Reddit in the first place

Keeps going on about captcha even though I get the big green tick

DeathAnTaxes · 25/08/2016 23:00

You are so going to get deleted for that basil Grin

But yes, every time

Who's japab Confused [missed something]

FRETGNIKCUF · 25/08/2016 23:11

VVVV. A million times that. Clarity.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 25/08/2016 23:12

"Who's japab"

I think that's MN's equivalent of the Bristol Hum. A weird droning noise that appears from time to time but has no obvious purpose.

AuntyElle · 25/08/2016 23:13

Having had my eyes opened on MN, I'm now horrified that other media clearly also censor this issue. I read the Guardian FFS and managed to remain oblivious. I had a woolly, live-and-let-live attitude to trans activism, solely due to my ignorance.

QuackDuckQuack · 25/08/2016 23:14

Aren't there transpeople who find some of this stuff head-in-hands embarrassing? Surely there are transpeople who recognise that banning the word vagina is ludicrous. There must be lots who consider calling anyone cuntscum offensive and recognise the right of anyone to choose a sexual partner and reject others for whatever reason including preference for specific genitalia. Do those people form the quieter majority of transpeople? Do they say 'not in my name'?

FoxtonFoxFace · 25/08/2016 23:16

MistressMerryWeather · 25/08/2016 23:23

That Reddit thread is horrible.

It's not really 'Mumsnet refugees' more like 'Lets go post here so we can be as disgusting as we like about Ego'

Utterly spineless.

As for the comment about mothers of autistic and disabled sons? I have no words.

Is that the sort of place people want Mumsnet to become? Thank fuck it's never going to happen.

MatildaOfTuscany · 25/08/2016 23:27

I ventured onto the Reddit thread mainly to say hi to Posie and say how sorry I was to hear she'd been banned. But the stuff on autism - ugh. I think I recognise the poster - posts under a similar but not identical name here, and I have a vague recollection of having been Hmm at some of her posts in the past. But I could be misremembering.

I don't think it's going to become my alternative to mumsnet, somehow. Oh well, I have other internet haunts.

AskBasil · 25/08/2016 23:29

The Guardian actively suppress any information about the reality of trans issues.

They also delete any non-compliant posts in CiF. They let racist, sexist shit stand, they let Daily Mail reading rednecks dominate CiF but a whiff of reality about transissues and whoosh - the comment's gone.

AskBasil · 25/08/2016 23:30

And the BBC is also slavishly promoting the party line.

MistressMerryWeather · 25/08/2016 23:33

I couldn't believe what I was reading, Matilda.

Let's hope this isn't the start of those sad twats piling onto Mumsnet. They can keep thier ugly on Reddit.

Queenbean · 25/08/2016 23:36

That Reddit thread Shock

MatildaOfTuscany · 25/08/2016 23:36

Basil - I have mentally renamed "comment is free" to "censorship is free". And agree re. the BBC too. So depressing. Wondering how I will tackle all this with DS when it comes up at school. Fortunately he is one of nature's questioning souls, and the slightest hint of "received wisdom" and he automatically starts asking awkward questions Grin He also bought himself a pair of pink swimming trunks the other day because pink is his favourite colour!

AuntyElle · 25/08/2016 23:40

Ask Basil, sorry, I feel endlessly naive, but why would The Guardian censor this?

Piscivorus · 25/08/2016 23:47

I never cease to be amazed how much I learn from Mumsnet. This is shocking to many of us who are only just beginning to realise how much the women's rights, that were so hard won, are under attack from so many quarters. We have a duty to our children to defend those rights or their lives will be poorer for it

Queenbean · 25/08/2016 23:50

The Guardian censor EVERYTHING.

I have made puns on there before and been deleted. Jokes. Questions. Sensible points which aren't in any way outrageous that have been deleted.

Utterly pathetic.

HornyTortoise · 26/08/2016 00:22

The other thread has me in tears, and I am not an emotional person at all. Is this about children being told they are trans actually true? If so that is fucking disgusting and child abuse. liking a 'boys' toy does not make you male, nor does wearing a dress make you female. This is all so fucked up and I had NO IDEA how deep this went until today. Cotton ceiling, lesbian abuse, CHILDREN. Its all so wrong and I will never support it no matter how 'comfortable' me (and everyone) doing so would make a few people feel.
