Message from MNHQ: We're afraid we felt we had to delete this thread as we feel like it has strayed way outside of our Talk Guidelines. We do regard deliberate, malicious misgendering (as opposed to accidental slip ups) as transphobic. Thank you to everyone who took the time to post thoughtfully here. We understand folks will want to talk more about pronouns and trans issues in general on another thread perhaps - but we would ask that you do so in way that doesn't rehash or repeat this thread. ONE poster wanted to discuss pronouns and they won. A thread about women being shut down by transactivists was shut down by a ta.

Fucking brilliant.

AND FOR THE RECORD THE PERSON'S PRONOUNS ARE 'THEY'

A vile misogynist was "misgendered" be being called he, because we can not even discuss who is doing this.. It is he's. It is men.

they was not even a thing 5 years ago. If I today demanded my pronouns be "Vagina owner" would everyone have to respect that?

Those unimpressed by biology and science are welcome to treat medical conditions through humours approach and jump off a cliff because gravity us just a theory.

HermioneWeasley · 25/08/2016 19:33

miranda you and Helen are awesome.

Surely the permanent cognitive dissonance required for other TW to maintain the "I am female and this is my female penis" stance must be exhausting and damaging.

WilLiAmHerschel · 25/08/2016 19:35

A non-binary friend told another friend he needs PReP as he is a 'femme' so can't demand partners use condoms.

What does this mean? What is PReP? Confused

Fedupofallthemud · 25/08/2016 19:39

Haven't rtft but completely agree with OP. I'm so sick of every trans thread being deleted. It's censorship and it's very disappointing from mumsnet

brasty · 25/08/2016 19:39

This is a slide from a school biology lesson. The kind of lesson children in Britain have.

Seriously MN this is fucking bullshit.
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2016 19:43

Miranda I'd read that piece before and thought it was very good - I never realised they were your partner though!

slamdunkthefunk · 25/08/2016 19:45

Posting in solidarity on this very important issue.
Mumsnet - sort your sh*t out please and pick a side. Are you pro-women or against us?

bigsnugglebunny · 25/08/2016 19:45

Just de-lurking on this thread to say that I absolutely agree with you OP.

IBelieveTheEarthIsFlat · 25/08/2016 19:47

MNHQ
This has been going on for a long time. It was MN that educated my lefty liberal self to understand that Transactivism is genuinely bullshit and very dangerous to women.

As a person who calls a spade a spade, I refuse to call a man with a penis a woman. It is as scientifically inaccurate as saying that the Earth is Flat.

For the purposes of MN and on this subject, I will not use (inaccurate)personal pronouns, but will instead refer to the person in the first person. I think that's a reasonable compromise.

I refuse to pander to this illogical nonsense. As an educated, enlightened woman, I am fully prepared to stand up for all human beings and to defend their right to live their life as they choose, free from violence and bullying. But not at the expense of the rights of others. Or rational thought.

You are on the wrong side of this at the moment MNHQ. Time to pick a side.

SoHairy · 25/08/2016 19:48

I'm only halfway through reading this thread, sorry if conversation has moved on. But I was worried the thread might get pulled before I got to the end.

Another in support.

Thank you to everyone who is brave enough to talk about this.

PS. Ada is a man.

CocoaBum · 25/08/2016 19:50

Completely and utterly agree OP. I can't even put into words how angry this whole trans movement debate makes me. Call me TERF all you like...

StephanieDA · 25/08/2016 19:51

Transphobia = understanding the biological distinction between male and female. All human life as we know it is transphobic.

CocoaBum · 25/08/2016 19:52

WilLiam - PReP is medication which prevents the spread of HIV to others, I believe

Thanks Cocoa.

BoreOfWhabylon · 25/08/2016 20:04

Another posting in support of the OP.

And agree Miranda and Helen are indeed awesome Flowers

WilLiAmHerschel · 25/08/2016 20:07

There was a great piece by Glosswitch yesterday on body hatred, anorexia and breast binding.

EddieStobbart · 25/08/2016 20:08

Thanks Cancelly, Edinburgh is my old university and I am about to do a masters there (and give them a lot of money in fees). I wondered whether there had been any calls for heterosexual men (trans or otherwise) to be expelled from the university on the same basis or if it was just lesbians - if not the men as well, I don't understand why this would be.

HermioneWeasley · 25/08/2016 20:10

Is everyone signing in on the "I am Spartacus" thread?

oscar has thoughtfully made it easier for HQ to ban us all by rounding us up in the same space to say "there's no such thing as a female penis"

LadyMondegreen11 · 25/08/2016 20:10

I know a couple who do. Of course when they do speak out they get verbally abused, shunned, and called "TERF" same as anyone else who objects.

Squibbler · 25/08/2016 20:13

Another here in total support.
The emperor is not wearing any clothes....

Ilovetractors · 25/08/2016 20:15

Another one delurking in support of the OP!

LadyMondegreen11 · 25/08/2016 20:20

Beautiful piece. Thoughtful and compassionate.

TheCatsWhiskers · 25/08/2016 20:20

Another in support of the OP. I am fed up of being silenced.
