Heads up - we're about to introduce a wee (it's really not that big) site update...

Morning folks,

As some of you pointed out at the time, the new navigation bar we introduced a little while back on the desktop site sits a little uncomfortably with what goes underneath it, design-wise.

So today we're introducing a little refresh of the rest of Talk. This update is also a bit closer to the mobile version, which it currently clashes with, so those who frequently switch from desktop to mobile will get a less variable experience.

If you use Mumsnet solely on mobile or tablet: as you were! Nothing’s going to change for you.

For desktop users, the functionality is unchanged (except for the addition of a threads I'm on button on the left hand side) but the fonts will look a little different.

We realise that any change can be difficult (and not necessarily welcome!) but please do give it a few days, as very often, we find, things like this just take a little getting used to and soon enough you've moved on and won't remember the difference.

As ever, we’re really keen to have your feedback, though, so do post below with your thoughts (we’re confident that you will Grin). Also, if anyone fancies getting involved in the testing of this kind of stuff, do shout, we're always looking for volunteers.

We’ll switch everything over in the next hour or so - let us know what you think! We’ll keep this thread stickied in Site Stuff and Active Conversations throughout at the day.

Flowers Justine

It's like magic.
You update your screen and you suddenly have a whole new experience. I thought I was on drugs.

Don't do this again without fair warning or during the morning, FGS.

nauticant · 16/03/2016 11:24

The font has changed.

I'm going to write to my MP.

00100001 · 16/03/2016 11:24

oooh and a new drop down menu.... exciting :)

Lweji · 16/03/2016 11:24

I'm just glad it wasn't something I did to the computer.

Actually, the font size on the "I'm on" list is too small and very hard to read.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 16/03/2016 11:26

I'm finding it harder to read.....hmmmm

JanetOfTheApes · 16/03/2016 11:26

Its horrible.

squoosh · 16/03/2016 11:26

I don't usually mind site tweaks but I'm not a fan of this font change. It's much harder to read than the usual font.

FruStefanOla · 16/03/2016 11:27

I like the font. Haven't got time to check out the other changes as I've got to go out now - will have a look later!

00100001 · 16/03/2016 11:27

to be fair... the font is harder to read.

It's kind of .. narrow.

Change is indeed, good.

squoosh · 16/03/2016 11:27

And when I click threads 'I'm On', I can barely read it.

OK I find the new font a lot harder to read. The old one (still there in the Trending box so I can compare...) has thicker lettering. This new one, though more 'open' is harder if you are optically challenged and not reading with prescription specs as the letters fuzz out too much. Can't really explain easily.

Are you planning to make it possible to change to the bolder letters in the customisation settings?

SagaAndMartinsLiftConvos · 16/03/2016 11:28

This explains it! Aaargh, I hate change.
