Why does the desktop site page keep jumping around?! It's driving me crazy!

I have an adblocker, so I'm guessing it's because of ads. I have no header, the MN logo is still not back (Why not?) but now the fecking page keeps jumping, taking far too long to get into position, so that I think I'm clicking on one thing and then end up clicking on something entirely different as the page jumps down.

I have about 3" of white space at the top of my page (hence thinking it must be something to do with ads) - but WHY must the page JUMP??

The site is becoming hugely frustrating with all this jumping and resultant mis-clicking!

Please do something about it (and bring back the logo, goddammit!)

It's loading the ad at the top. The current ad is bigger than normal, so the page jumps down a bit once the ad (or correct amount of ad space) has loaded. If you ads enabled, you wouldn't notice the jump so much.

I agree that it's annoying - enforcing the standard ad size might be a start.

I don't want the logo back though, thanks. It's much cleaner and fresher without it.

DoreenLethal · 22/02/2016 15:48

I agree - it drives me to distraction.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 22/02/2016 16:02

Ha, Anchor - you say cleaner and fresher, I say far more boring. Grin

But yes to standardised ad sizes, if that's the cause.

yes, I have this exact problem!! Constantly end up clicking on FAQ instead of what I mean to, because it takes that much longer to load. grrrrrrr

AmyGMumsnet · 22/02/2016 17:49

Hi all

Thanks very much for flagging this, it does sound frustrating!

Please can you let us know what device you're using, and what browser please? We'll then flag to our ads team and ask if there's anything they can do.

Thanks for bearing with us on this one Flowers Brew

firefox on a mac

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/02/2016 06:13

Sure, AmyG - desktop site, on a laptop, using Chrome (also MN classic) plus I have an adblocker active (NO idea which one but I suppose I could try and work it out!!)

DoreenLethal · 23/02/2016 09:11

Mac with firefox.

Also ipad with safari.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 23/02/2016 09:14

me too - on desktop/Chrome/with adblocker

BeccaMumsnet · 23/02/2016 10:51

Hi all - thanks for posting. There are a few people having this issue on the mobile site.

Could we just ask you all to do a quick test for us? If you disable adblocker, does it still happen? We've had a few people say it stops, in which case we'll need to look into why that's happening. Thanks all.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 23/02/2016 10:54

It's not just the desktop site - I have this problem on mobile site, Android/chrome/no adblocker.

The page also takes a long time to completely load, and I have a stupidly fast connection...

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/02/2016 13:03

yes turning off adblocker seems to help the jumping around thing.

Naoko · 23/02/2016 13:11

I'm getting this on mobile (Android/Chrome, no adblocker installed) but not on the desktop (Chrome/adblocker installed). It's very annoying.

BeccaMumsnet · 23/02/2016 13:23

Hi all - thanks for posting. We're going to get this info over to Tech and see if we can find out what's going on.

IShouldBeSoLurky · 23/02/2016 22:42

Yes, I'm getting this too. Desktop, Safari, adblocker enabled. Thanks for looking into it, MNHQ Flowers

NanTheWiser · 25/02/2016 12:04

Me too, desktop with Adblocker. It's dreadful!

BeccaMumsnet · 25/02/2016 12:20

Hi both - which pages does it happen on for you?

If you disable Adblocker, does it stop?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 25/02/2016 12:36

I managed to find my adblocker (not that hard, embarrassingly! It's a Chrome extension called Adblock) and pause it, which did stop the page jumping. The ads that appeared were a lot smaller than the white space that is created when the Adblocker is running, and the page jumps; so it's not because the ads actually being shown are deeper than normal, I guess the white space just jumps to maximum allowed space for ads?

However, I don't want to switch my adblocker off just to be able to use the site. Up until a few days ago, this jumping nonsense wasn't happening, so I'm hoping Techs can fix it again.

It happens for me on all pages that I visit - TIO, Active, individual threads, even messages.

IShouldBeSoLurky · 25/02/2016 12:38

It happens on all pages. The page loads as normal, then there's a short delay and then it "jumps" downwards. It's incredibly annoying!

It doesn't happen with adblocker disabled.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 25/02/2016 12:44

hugely annoying and still happening, on all the pages. It jumps about 3 or 4 cm., just enough so that I constantly end up clicking on what I think is a certain forum, but by the time it finishes loading and registers the mouse click, it's in a different place, and I go to the wrong forum.

Even if the ads loaded a lot faster, it would be a bit better, as I'd at least then be able to wait til it had jumped before clicking. But the ads (blocked or not) often really slow things down while it waits for them to load.

SwedishEdith · 25/02/2016 20:30

Still happening, still annoying. Turning Adblock off stops the jumping but doesn't stop the delay in the page loading. 15 seconds with no adblocker v 11 seconds to load with the adblocker Shock. Not happening on other sites.

BreconBeBuggered · 26/02/2016 10:53

This has been driving me bananas all week. I keep finding myself in My Mumsnet, which is annoying in itself as I can't seem to just close the box and have to go back to where I came from. Thought it might be the pc but the same thing happens on the laptop. I knew it was an adblocker issue but I imagined the ad itself must be massive and take ages to (not) load.

SilkandSteel · 26/02/2016 18:27

This is still happening and it's getting extremely annoying! Turning adblock off stops it,however I don't want it turned off. All the Mumsnet ads was one of the reasons I installed one in the first place. Why is it taking so long to sort out??????

magimedi · 29/02/2016 09:54

Still doing it - is this to encourage us not to have ad blocker? Grin
