Trans people being allowed to compete against women in the Olympics

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 09:37

The Olympics are now allowing men who have taken hormones for 12 months compete against women.

It is NOT transphobic to say that this is grossly unfair and a huge violation of women's rights.

Women who have trained all their lives cannot be expected to compete against people with male bodies and who will be allowed roughly 4 times the normal female testosterone levels.

It's not on. We can't stand for it.

Please get behind this mumsnet. Someone needs to take a stand.

It's NOT transphobic to state that this is unfair. It really isn't.

Agree lunar I think MNHQ would probably supportive of it, if anything.

OhShutUpThomas · 24/01/2016 10:20

I really hope MNHQ do get behind this.

It's an abomination against women's rights. It wouldn't be allowed in ANY OTHER group. It just wouldn't.

And we can't allow it either.

There's a lot of strength of feeling about this so we are setting up a FB group to discuss this issue further. If you're interested please PM me your name and will make sure you're added Smile

There really needs to be some common sense applied here. The reason men and women compete separately in sports is down to biology. We are built differently, with skeletal, muscle and fat distributions and different hormones.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/01/2016 10:37

Agree.

Fucking hell. I am enraged at this. I doubt we'll have any luck but I think it's worth taking this to the WEP as well.

kua · 24/01/2016 11:22

Agree

DaftVader36 · 24/01/2016 11:24

Really? That's awful. Yes we should totally campaign against this. As if women's sport doesn't have enough problems.

fidel1ne · 24/01/2016 11:28

I don't suppose HQ will be able to give a proper answer on a Sunday

Holowiwi · 24/01/2016 11:29

I am really against trans men or women competing in sports with the other sex doesn't make sense to me ultimately the biology is different.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 24/01/2016 11:37

I wonder if they'd ever re-think if a trans woman won every single bloody time? Or if women just stopped bothering with sports because there's no longer a level playing field for them. So the Women's 200m in the Olympics was just 3 trans women competing against each other, no Relay due to lack of women taking part.

Bet Gymnastics is fairly "safe".

whatdoIget · 24/01/2016 11:40

Sport sometimes just seems to be loads of people cheating, either by using drugs, or, soon, in a new way! By being men competing against women.
Except it won't be cheating, it'll be officially ok

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/01/2016 11:41

It would be argued that that's a very transphobic POV, and that trans-women are women, and isn't it marvellous, these great strides forwards in women's sports Sad Angry

ThomasRichard · 24/01/2016 11:47

Agreed. What's the point of women putting in the blood, sweat and tears to compete if they're competing against biological men with their innate physical advantages that no born woman has?

ByTheWishingWell · 24/01/2016 11:49

Agree.

MrsGradyOldLady · 24/01/2016 11:51

I agree too.

Maryz posted an interesting link on the other thread about the Iranian women's football team and the fact that 8 team members are men. And someone else posted a link about Fallon Fox beating the shit out of a woman in an MMA fight. So this us something that is affecting women right now.

dementedma · 24/01/2016 11:54

Another one here who wants to fight this.

QueenStromba · 24/01/2016 11:56

Actually, when the news broke about the Iranian football team it was said that eight of the team were pre-op - the reports made no mention of post-op. It's therefore possible that all of the Iranian women's football team were born men.

They all look male to me.

I follow Woman Against UKIP on Twitter. That fool Clarkson has commented on "Trans-Children", and WAU has shared it. 3 comments in and I can see what we're up against.

fidel1ne · 24/01/2016 12:01

Yes, I read something along those lines at about 2am Stromba ; that there was a definite silence about plans for surgical transition.

SurferJet · 24/01/2016 12:03

Trans people need their own category - that's what I'd be campaigning for.
& if sports women don't make a stand against this then I'll never understand why?

nancy75 · 24/01/2016 12:04

This is ridiculous, I would like to see mn campaign against it but I won't hold my breath.

nancy75 · 24/01/2016 12:05

Sports women will be scared to say anything, look at the shit germaine greer got for speaking her mind about anything trans
