The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did ). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

Yesterday was mildly amused by them.

Today.. Massive monkeys in thread title on active convos. No. Don't like it. T
They're untidy and a bit naff.

Plus where's the fun of finding a new mn smilie if these imposters run amock? get a life mumteedum

I lost my bookmark for that years ago

I don't like them, they show up as squares on my laptop, so having them in posts is bad enough, but is total rubbish in titles.

Keeping them is the start of the slippery slope down to glitter, and "huns" being compulsory.

I like this site because of the articulate debate. the lively humour, the informed opinion; I don't want that to be swamped by posts compiled from stings of emojis, the ultimate dumbing down.

I prefer the standard MN emojies, especially if there were more to choose from.

It must be really frustrating if you can't see the new ones.

1. People use technology that has these emojis - for MN to stop people from being able to use them is a bit school teacherish. "No Milk - you may not use your emojis in school. You must only use the school emojis."

1. The "proper" MN smilies are so bad, they look like something I 'drew' on a BBC computer in Computer Studies class at school in 1985. I mean - the wine glass (for example) looks like a normal emoji but the faces are just shit. They look OK on the app though.

1. We need a "vom" emoticon, or at least a "ewwwwwww" one.

I can see them as huge shit drawings.

I can live with them if everyone calms their tits and stops overusing them in excitement.

I know not everyone can see them - what I'm saying is that banning them and insisting on "MN approved only" is just, well, wrong. We'll all be in bloody uniform next!!!! 😄 ()

There's loads of shot I don't understand on loads of threads - I just close the thread and look at another one. 🤗

I will just ignore anyone who uses an emoji I can't see just in case I don't get what they are saying.

They were small on my laptop and a bit annoying then at some point today they went HUGE.

Thank you Sparkling! I thought there was something wrong with my eyes. The emojis don't really bother me when they are normal sized. But I am on the mobile site and they are bloody HUGE! Great big 'see no evil, hear no evil, say no evil' monkies are looming out at me on active threads.
