The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did Grin). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

oh is there a poo one? Hmm

I take it back

that's probably better not florid

MotherofFlagons · 07/12/2015 16:21

I am not massively keen on seeing them plastered all over the forums in addition to the standard MN ones.

If you must keep them, please don't allow them to be used in thread titles. It makes it impossible to know if it's a thread you want to click on or not.

Headmelt · 07/12/2015 16:23

They look a lot nicer on my phone than when they show on my posts

duckbilled · 07/12/2015 16:24

I really don't like them.

SauvignonBlanche · 07/12/2015 16:25

I hate them in thread titles.

How do people with Visual impairments using assistive technology cope with them?

I have to say, I don't actually understand most of them. So with that in mind perhaps the titles thing is a valid point.

sambucus2 · 07/12/2015 16:26

I love them, we can express ourselves so much more.

Please let us keep them!

And remember, it'll all calm down once the initial excitement has passed us by.

I bloody 💙💜❤️💛💚💖 them 😄😀

FruVikingessOla · 07/12/2015 16:27

I don't think I mind them too much.

But I agree that they're very irritating in thread titles.

MarieJeanne · 07/12/2015 16:28

No thank you. The original mn ones are sufficient imo.

Don't like them. Don't know how to use them.

meditrina · 07/12/2015 16:33

Very good question.

Especially as the non-use of text speak is for that reason.

Onlyonamonday · 07/12/2015 16:34

💆🏻

toastyarmadillo · 07/12/2015 16:34

Missed how to use them, but love them!

toastyarmadillo · 07/12/2015 16:35

💩

Onlyonamonday · 07/12/2015 16:35

Oh just checking .. Didn't realise we could now use our key pad emojis 😀

toastyarmadillo · 07/12/2015 16:35

Ha sussed it... yep love them

Stasie · 07/12/2015 16:36

Iona, what about emailing a few of our members who have a visual impairment, and asking their thoughts?

Palomb · 07/12/2015 16:37

I ❤️ them
