The great emoji debate

Afternoon everyone,

So: emojis. We've had a few questions about these over the last few days. Some of you love them and some of you loathe them. The truth of the matter is that they came into being as a side-effect of a technical fix that we did; we didn't set out to introduce them (and in fact, didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did Grin). On the question of whether they stay or whether they go, it's really up to you lot. We can get rid of them again; equally, if you like having them, we're happy for them to stay. Over to you ...

I am confused. On the Pictionary thread this afternoon there were three giant colour monkey head emojis as a thread title. Briefly. Now they they are three little indistinct blobs. Confused

RatOnnaStick · 07/12/2015 20:50

I don't like them. I won't be using them (don't know how anyway) I find them intrusive.

SoupDragon · 07/12/2015 20:50

People use technology that has these emojis

And a lot use technology that doesnt have the emojis.

Which technology has them?

HemanOrSheRa · 07/12/2015 20:52

They are still massive on my phone Sparkling. All of the emojis are.

😮

HemanOrSheRa · 07/12/2015 20:52

That is the size of my little fingernail!

AndNowItsSeven · 07/12/2015 20:53

I am on the mobile site ( iphone) and they are regular size.

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2015 20:53

Ah yes Heman just looked at my phone. GIANT EMOJIS EVERYWHERE.

HemanOrSheRa · 07/12/2015 20:58

And another thing! The stickied threads at the top of active don't have a big mumsnet M. They have a little camera next to them now.

lighteningirl · 07/12/2015 21:00

💐 working on my kindle 😨 and I can see them without my reading glasses so I think I like them

lighteningirl · 07/12/2015 21:00

Your first emoji looks like a teeny black palm tree Light the second is a face but I don't know what expression it is doing. Maybe sad?

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2015 21:04

My Motorola thinks giant is best usual. V alarming.

If I am at home i am always on the laptop which is where I can't see them at all except for teeny black scribbles.

LineyReborn · 07/12/2015 21:04

They are getting bigger and BIGGER and FUCKING MASSIVE and the rest of the site presentation is being affected by it, e.g. the icon for my inbox is now fucked.

SaltySeaBird · 07/12/2015 21:05

Not keen. Don't mind them in text messages or Facebook but they don't feel very Mumsnet and detract from the site. Plus they are inconsistent across devices.

Lweji · 07/12/2015 21:05

didn't expect you to discover them quite as quickly as you did

MNHQ are so cute and naive sometimes.

Anyway, if you do get rid of the emojis you need to add these smilies:
devil smile (with tail)
hug
whistle
t-rex

MagpieCursedTea · 07/12/2015 21:07

I'm also still struggling with the Hmm emoji being so different on the new app compared to the old one. I don't handle change very well Grin

Domino777 · 07/12/2015 21:08

Love them!

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2015 21:10

This is what they look like on my phone.
