SFAIAA you only get https security on a log in page for here.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 25/08/2015 23:11

I have only the vaguest idea what that means. If I squint. Grin

howtorebuild · 25/08/2015 23:14

Seems US noobs have been uber pawned by xxx hackers lol?Confused

mimishimmi · 25/08/2015 23:19

Yeah, didn't quite get the 1337 h4x0r5 bit...kek is the WoW equivalent of lol apparently.

howtorebuild · 25/08/2015 23:23

1337 = elite. I had to go back a few pages to get that.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 25/08/2015 23:23

"It seems us nooks have been ultra owned by the elite hackers lol lol lol all the lols"

onemightywizard · 25/08/2015 23:23

keks been doing the rounds since wow came about almost i think, years and years now. been a while since i saw it outside of wow though to be truthful, wow is fast losing it's hold on the mmorpg market, lots of other things have either taken over or as some reckon, the market for it is dying out. i go back to it every now and again when they offer me free game time or im having a particularly bad flare and get stuck in bed for ages

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 23:23

It's only Leet, LibrariesGaveUsPOwer.

jorahmormont · 25/08/2015 23:23

'leet' (elite) haxors (hackers) basically.

DontTellThePrincessBride · 25/08/2015 23:23

Nooks = noobs

Stupid autocorrect

DontTellThePrincessBride · 25/08/2015 23:24

FFXIV is much better than WoW imo.

Spamminit · 25/08/2015 23:27

I can only find one twitter account. it's the seg_w one. Is that Jeffrey or Simon?

acatcalledjohn · 25/08/2015 23:31

Especially for Libraries

Which one is which?

onemightywizard · 25/08/2015 23:31

i've not played FFXIV never got round to it, ended up not having time for gaming of late with my course. ive got over a hundred games on steam ive yet to get through so eventually, maybe in holiday time ill get round to some of them. like i said, i only really go back to wow when they offer me free game time, you can do a lot in 7 days if you really put your mind to it and some of the quests are seriously easy and repetitive but the ding is always nice when you get it

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2015 23:38

spam That's Simon. He made a joke about MNHQ favouriting his tweet and helpfully posted that blocking his account doesn't stop him from seeing tweets.

Jeffrey posted rude insults and swat attacks. His account has been suspended.

onemightywizard · 25/08/2015 23:41

doesn't blocking an account only stop them from tweeting you or you seeing what they tweet but not them from seeing what you tweet?

CockwombleJeff · 26/08/2015 00:06

Librariesgaveus -love your post down thread about the police. That is the reality of the situation. They ARE human beings and deal with extremely traumatic incidents for which they get NO debriefing.

BreconBeBuggered · 26/08/2015 00:13

wizard If you block an account it has a reciprocal effect, so that you don't see their tweets and in the normal course of things they should stop seeing yours. But it's not an effective way of protecting Twitter posts from being read by specific individuals. It's really easy to view posts from any public account even if they have blocked you.

Macadaamia · 26/08/2015 00:21

Well whoever Simon is, he's the one who posted here. I got a pm from him and he used same remark in my pm as he did in one tweet

onemightywizard · 26/08/2015 00:22

i locked my twitter account down even though i don't use it much and mostly just ramble on when i'm hungry Grin

Spamminit · 26/08/2015 00:41

Thanks NobleGiraffe had a nosey through Simon's twitter and barack obama follows him. Obviously he hacked the account of someone important. When I think of Simon, I think of Simon's cat. I have no idea how to do clicky links but search for Simon's cat on youtube. Grin

I think this has been an education...
I think we are being encouraged to link too many accounts/too much info about ourselves...
I have passwords of different security strengths for different sites (and different email accounts that forward on) - this has made me realise that I had a couple of shopping sites where I've paid by paypal etc - no card details held - so I have used the same simple (for me!) password - because what harm can it do? But it does have my full address linked to my email address...Some I haven't used for years - I decided to beef things up and found the only way I could change the password was by saying I had forgotten it and there seems to be no option to delete the account...
Also thinking about Google - it frightens me how much info they have and how it is all linked - even things like your contacts now have phone numbers/email addresses all together with any other info about someone, and the whole youtube thing...and Google Play ...the whole Google+ thing...
Outlook/hotmail used to let you link email accounts ...but instead they introduced alias's - took me a while to realise (there is a thread on their help thing about it -people getting heated - rightly in my opinion) that if you send an email from an alias they stick your user name (which at one point was my real name) on it ...and apparently you can't leave the user name blank and it is the same for every alias...
FB always pisses me off too - if tick keep me logged in and then you do a web search that turns up a facebook page and you click on it it logs you in...
Finally the one thing I am a bit Hmm about at the moment - has happened to me twice recently and I know other people it is happening to - one a lot. And reading around the web it has happened to others too and I can't find a satisfactory answer - even MS/Hotmail told someone their account was secure - not to worry- but can't explain....
It is receiving 'spoofed' emails from someone on your contact list (so it has their user name but not the right email address). They haven't been hacked - just spoofed. I just feel it is a bit of a coincidence that out of the millions of spoofs that must exist I get maybe a hundred a year and 2% of those are from someone in my contacts...no way do I have 2% of the total spoofs as contacts...
What has really freaked me out is the ones I got are from people with distinctive names. They ended up in spam. They are people who had been on my contact list for a while but are no way linked to each other in any other way. Those contacts were set up in one email address, then four or five years ago I transferred them to another account (different provider) and deleted them in original account (thoroughly - so even from restore etc as were all emails etc) ...These emails have been forwarded from that original account - so the 'name' shouldn't have been recognised as one I maybe should be associated with ...so not not pre-filtered put in spam as a 'maybe not' ... freaky. I wonder if 'someone' somewhere is up to something really dodgy....(dons tin hat and removes all trace of self from internet....)

Morning all.

I do hope the site stays online today. The weather around here is RUBBISH and I need something to stave off the misery of 12 hours of CBeebies after a teething 11-month old kept me awake half the night.
