Thanks Fine I didnt think it through properly

You need to watch more NCIS Grin

HelenaDove · 25/08/2015 15:01

Does anyone else think it could still be a disgruntled ex. He seems to go quiet on weekends.

Could it be because he has access to his kids.

Or if it is a teenager his parents are around more on weekends Just thinking out loud really.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2015 15:07

My gut instinct is that is a bored teenager. He seems to be barely literate in that teenage way, and has not done anything particularly skillful.

Lweji · 25/08/2015 15:07

Can you imagine Jeff's mum's thread on AIBU? Grin

AIBU to conduct a DOS on the little cunt? No clean clothes, no food and no bed.

SansaryaAgain · 25/08/2015 15:08

noblegiraffe, I'd be interested to know how exactly he went through her personal details on Twitter and found her address, as a) Twitter doesn't ask for an address and b) even if they did collect location data then surely only Twitter admins would be able to access it?

SirChenjin · 25/08/2015 15:08

I reckon it's whatsisname who offered the yonic massage. Seems like the sort of thing he might get up to in order to wreak revenge on all the MNetters who rebuked his kind offer.

BoffinMum · 25/08/2015 15:09

In the absence of the site being up I was thinking about the whole issue in a broader context.

Basically, these denial of service attacks are pretty much on a level with pulling several million people's landline telephones out of the wall socket while they are speaking on them because you a) don't want them to be talking, and b) you want to teach them some kind of lesson.

That is pretty offensive to anyone who believes in free speech, frankly. What gives these characters the right to determine who speaks to each other, how they do it, and when they do it? Since when did they become self-appointed censors? Since when did they have that right?

it's even more offensive when you consider some of the statements they have been making about not wanting women to speak to each other, and not approving of what women are saying collectively. Would they say that about blacks? Jews? Muslims? Other groups minding their own business and communicating amongst themselves? Where is it written that hackers should be allowed to arbitrate and decide who should have the right to speak, and who should be silenced? Should the men on our site be allowed to speak, with us remaining silenced? Is it all about devoicing women?

Because if it is, then frankly, the gloves are off.

Heathcliff27 · 25/08/2015 15:10

So glad we're back. I went to gransnet but was worried i'd discovermy MiL bitching about me so guess what....I invited a real life person over for coffee Shock

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2015 15:13

I suspect just an idle threat, but some people make themselves very identifiable.

I cooked a pie ! (I've been off for days it seems) It was delicious - steak and ale with homemade pastry. DH thought it was Christmas and asked if we could have it again next week. "No" says I "MN's back, I won't have time Grin"

Best wishes to MNHQ, and lots of gin and hope you are over the worst.

StephanieBeacham · 25/08/2015 15:18

Thanks Noble. See what you mean.

It is pretty easy to find someone's details using their real name, which many people use on twitter.

I don't; I have nothing personal on it at all, no photographs, no names, no job description. I think it would be harder to find out about someone who doesn't use their RL name.

If people are concerned then changing your name to something made up might be a feasible option, or you could de-activate your twitter temporarily (you get up to 30 days before they delete it).

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2015 15:18

I think the implication was that he got her info from Twitter and used it to find out where she lived, like with the first MNetter who was swatted.

MrWriter · 25/08/2015 15:19

Yeah! So glad we're back, I was ACTUALLY having to work, in work ffs.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 25/08/2015 15:21

You're back! Back!! Mwah mwah I've missed you all Flowers

And what's this about a chicken emoticon??? And a fancy cake??? I demand emoticon equality Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 25/08/2015 15:22

Oh good grief, I must have ended up with Cogito's 'phone!
Apologies, no idea how it happened!

lorelei9 · 25/08/2015 15:25

what's the reference to, er, "yonic massage" - hardly dare ask...

luckily I'm not in work most of this week, I'd have died of boredom already if I was.

SirChenjin · 25/08/2015 15:31

Just tried to find a link to the thread, but it seems to have disappeared (see, told you it was him). It was some bloke oop north (or dahn sarf, depending where you are in the UK obvs) who was very keen to offer MNetters the benefit of his wiggly finger. I think it's fair to say the ladies weren't really game.

SirChenjin · 25/08/2015 15:31

Fine's searching skills are obviously better than mine Grin

hairylittlegoblin · 25/08/2015 15:32

You're back! Hooray.

Agree with Boffin - I don't think this has ever been about data. I think it's about getting women to be quiet and using the data thing to scare users into deregging.

Although I do wonder how it's being viewed by other hackers. Am imagining a hacker convention where they all get together and compare their successful hacks. The FBI, M15, Ashley Madison, American government emails etc. and then Jeff comes along and announces that he shut down a parenting website and forced all the women to chat on facebook for 18 hours. And all the other hackers edge slowly away from him...

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 25/08/2015 15:32

I'm really rather Envy about the Gransnet emoticons too. Why don't we have a chicken, and why is their cake so much nicer than ours?

RebeccaMumsnet · 25/08/2015 15:32

Apparently, they have secret ones too. Yes, secret ones!

Lweji · 25/08/2015 15:33

Which reminds me, I watched a film the other day about the inventor of the diy yoni massage. Very interesting. Apparently he was a doctor, and treated female "hysteria" and was so successful that he was getting hand cramps. Until he came up with an electrical device. I was thinking of MN the whole time I watched it.

And idea for you, Jeff, do something constructive.

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 15:35

A real life person, Heathcliff27 ? Wasn't that a little dangerous?
