Has he got two accounts or one?

PlayingSolitaire · 25/08/2015 18:34

Glad we're back though! I also went to NM and have cravings for more emoticons now...

At the very least gin and chicken. And I like the idea of a secret one that's not listed below.

The first one, @DadSec was cancelled by Twitter. He's now tweeting as @segw mentioning @DadSec and @Mumsnettowers in his tweets to make sure he's visible - you'll find him if you google "@DadSec".

Worryingly, a quick Google reveals the name and occupation of the real account holder who presumably doesn't know yet that this has happened. What an arse (Jeffrey that is).

A few people are deactivating their netmums accounts as they realised the security is poor there. Will we all end up in bounty?Confused

Arkkorox · 25/08/2015 18:41

That's the one Ive seen crispy I got confused Grin

Garrick · 25/08/2015 18:47

Howto, was that a subtle ploy to lure Jeffrey & Simon away to Nethuns?

blowinahoolie · 25/08/2015 18:48

I have a suspicion that this is going to keep on happening. It's working but for how long?

AuntieStella · 25/08/2015 18:51

I googled for recipes featuring gin and chicken, and discovered several. That could be a whole new way to make it last a week (not).

OpheliaMoo · 25/08/2015 18:51

Of what I've seen of Netmums, people seem to give away far more personal info on their tickers etc. Date married, names and DOB of children etc. They should be careful!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/08/2015 18:58

MN have said that they are going to invest in anti DDOS systems, these generally work very well, and at worst might experience a few mins of downtime when they hit.

Regarding the hacking, if MN give higher priority to security and apply patches as soon as new vulnerabilities become apparent, all should be good.

RomiiRoo · 25/08/2015 18:59

Not been posting so far on these threads, but just want to add my support to MNHQ - this is a nightmare.

It does seem about targeting a space which women, primarily but not only, use to gain support and chat about various aspects of life, from life or death matters to Cake.

For every hour this site is down, someone will be struggling with a baby that won't sleep, a child with special needs, a difficult relationship, work problems, mental health issues, you name it - and guess what? That person may be a woman or may be a man; may be a mother, may be a father; may be a parent, may not be a parent - how do you know? The only thing that you do know is that valuable support is gone. And that achieves what exactly?

howtorebuild · 25/08/2015 19:01

It may be, Garrick, though there are several stating so, unless they are pming or fbing each other.Confused

PegsPigs · 25/08/2015 19:01

I forgot my 50th password change but I guess I'll not bother resetting it till this all calms down. I was stuck actually watching Sofia the first today instead of MNing next to it. Turns out it's garbage. Who would have guessed??

OutToGetYou · 25/08/2015 19:06

Er, so who the fuck is Simon then?

OpheliaMoo · 25/08/2015 19:07

Simon is allegedly Jeffrey's sidekick but it appears that might be wrong as even Jeffers wants to know who he is! For our purposes he's the partner in crime

SuffolkNWhat · 25/08/2015 19:08

Simon is the 8chan-er who linked his FB profile to the thread discussing the hack

NerrSnerr · 25/08/2015 19:12

That FB profile wasn't really him though was it? It's either a random or a fake profile. If you're clever enough to be hacking websites you're own FB page will be properly locked down.

Simurgh · 25/08/2015 19:13

Some sites are suffering DOS attacks/attempted penetrations nearly every day of the week at the moment. The difference with them is that, unlike Mumsnet, they keep quiet about it - reputational mumble and responsibility to shareholders etc etc. (How often have you been to a big or biggish site and experienced some issues or had a message on screen that they were 'undertaking some non-routine maintenance'? Wink)

I rather like Mumsnet's greater transparency on these matters. Smile It may well continue for a little but it will become old hat pretty quickly and after Jeffrey's apprehension, there's little or nothing to hold his fan club to his 'cause'. The new software will help as well.

Arkkorox · 25/08/2015 19:15

He's just posted a pic, think he's trying to prove that even if a profile is locked down he can get in.

MaidOfStars · 25/08/2015 19:17

I reported that Twitter account to Twitter, saying it was hacked (and the hacker was open about it). Has anyone else?

Arkkorox · 25/08/2015 19:17

Can I suggest that MNetters on Twitter that want to comment on MNtowers Twitter feed you make sure there is NO info on your Twitter, locked or not.
