Over 50's

Hi Ladies

Could we have an "over 50's" category?

I am seriously becoming more and more shocked and upset with AIBU/Chat. The amount of "scoffing" and nastiness on mumsnet is very unpleasant.

Think yourself lucky sparkling You could be condemned to a future of enforced niceness!

magimedi · 14/02/2015 16:23

Could we have an Over 60's?

You have then reached the age where you can say what the fuck you like, no one would have any posts deleted for personal attacks, troll hunting would be allowed & it would be deemed only right to have a couple of gins (at the minimum) before posting.

I'll be able to sign up to it later this year.

FruChristerOla · 14/02/2015 16:36

Yeah - this is us!

Sign up now to the over 50s/60s MN Club!

Never mind, Sparkling - You'll catch up one day.

FruChristerOla · 14/02/2015 16:41

Oh - and before anyone accuses me of being ageist (and I'm waay past 50) - I bet those ladies know more about life and don't need to be categorised.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2015 16:43

Smile Alternatively we could all just stay together.

I thought Blacklight had started another fred Sad

I am not-quite-50-yet and mostly nice - where do I go?!

I am all for MNNice though - it does have a ring to to too Smile

NorksAreMessy · 14/02/2015 16:49

I am over 50 but really quite nice.
Am I allowed to post all over the place, or do I have to stay in my ghetto?

PacificDogwood · 14/02/2015 16:49

On further reflection: why would I/anybody want to only converse with people in the same demographic as themselves? Confused

One of the (many) joys of MN is the education it is every day Grin

Op: it's a nice idea Smile & I know where you're coming from as most people mellow with age. Only problem is, it wouldn't solve your on-line problem as Mumsnet is so big with many aggressive over 50's.

PacificDogwood · 14/02/2015 16:57

Thank goodness none of these aggressive oldies have been on this thread. Phew.

FruChristerOla · 14/02/2015 16:58

"most people mellow with age"

Grin Grin Grin

Nanny0gg · 14/02/2015 17:03

Op: it's a nice idea & I know where you're coming from as most people mellow with age.

Bollocks.

Only problem is, it wouldn't solve your on-line problem as Mumsnet is so big with many aggressive over 50's 60s.

Marshy · 14/02/2015 17:04

What's going on then? Have been away having beans on toast ....Have to keep your strength up when you're over 50 although I'm not sure beans were the best choice on reflection Hmm

For the rising 50s I think we should have a transitional thread where you gradually learn the routlines - a bit like starting in reception

AcrossthePond55 · 14/02/2015 17:09

Have you ever thought, OP, that in the midst of the 'scoffing and nastiness' on a thread that you just might be able to inject a note of the 'maturity and wisdom' that comes from being 'of a certain age'?

Frankly, I've seen shit flying both ways. Posters who appear to be 'of my age group' being condescending and mean to a younger woman in the midst of a motherhood/marriage/friends/whatever dilemma are probably almost as common as young, snarky, know-it-alls who post ornery things on the same threads or tell older posters that we don't understand 'the way it is today'.

And don't get me started on the MiL/DiL and/or grandmother threads!

PrettyFeet · 14/02/2015 17:10

Going to have to hide the thread i guess

OP posts:
usualsuspect333 · 14/02/2015 17:10

Can I wear my slanket and big slipper in the over 50s topic?

AnyFucker · 14/02/2015 17:17

lighten up, OP

from one oldie to another Smile

claravine · 14/02/2015 17:19

Yeah usual I quite fancy a nice cuppa tea and a sit down sort of topic myself it could be for any age as long as a poster wears comfortable shoes

PacificDogwood · 14/02/2015 17:38

"Rising 50s" Grin

I want a t-shirt with that slogan

Honeydragon · 14/02/2015 17:50

As the thread flies
On a cold and grey Mumsnet mornin'
A poor little Quinquagarian is shoved
In the ghetto

And Sparkers cries
Cause if there's one thing that she don't
need
It's another missing mouth of advice to heed
In the ghetto

People, you don't understand
That young and old Mnetters need a helping hand
Or they'll grow to be angry Gransnetters
some day
Take a look at you and me
Are we to blind to see
Do we simply turn our head

And look the other way
Well the thread turns
And a poor little Usual with a runny nose
Waffles in Over a Fifties as tumbleweed blows
Cos she's in the ghetto

I'll stop now. I feel I've ear wormed you all well enough Grin

RandallFloyd · 14/02/2015 17:53

Blimey, that's you lot told.

Ledkr · 14/02/2015 17:56
