Over 50's

Hi Ladies

Could we have an "over 50's" category?

I am seriously becoming more and more shocked and upset with AIBU/Chat. The amount of "scoffing" and nastiness on mumsnet is very unpleasant.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2015 15:51

my mind is boggling Marshy. Sad

Honeydragon · 14/02/2015 15:51

Marshy yup Grin

Ageism is discrimination based on age Sparkers. The actual amount of years isn't relavant.

So in this case the op would be bjullying everyone under 50 and apprently everyone who disagrees with her

Pagwatch · 14/02/2015 15:54

[meh] I don't mind being called nasty by odd sorts.

KneesOfTheBee · 14/02/2015 15:55

Nooooooooooo!

I am over 50 and don't want to be segregated.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2015 15:55

Hiding AIBU is brilliant. Your Active list suddenly becomes quite interesting. You can still check out AIBU threads that appear in Most Active if you really want.
AIBU is not to be taken seriously on the whole, and if that's where you tend to hang out most it must get a bit Hmm.

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2015 15:56

That actually makes sense Honey. This thread-not so much.

Marshy · 14/02/2015 15:57

Bloody hell I'm a senior. That sounds both quite important and utterly depressing Grin

I think the op is feeling a bit touchy for some reason if being disagreed with = nastiness

rembrandtsrockchick · 14/02/2015 15:59

Deary me...a ghetto for the over fifties. I am sixty three and love the way mumsnet has posters of all ages, experience, opinions and degrees of nuttiness.

It's pretty easy to ignore the unpleasant posts.

I did try netmums but it's not for me. Same with gransnet.

magimedi · 14/02/2015 15:59

I am also well over 50 & certainly don't want an over 50's topic.

And are you limiting posting in it to the over fifties only?

How are you going to enforce that?

Bloody daft idea & ageist.

Pagwatch · 14/02/2015 16:00

We should get perks once we are over 50. Free tea like at the cinema.
A special section where you don't have to remember name, details or where you put things.

FruChristerOla · 14/02/2015 16:03

OP there are loads of us who are over 50 - and I might end up in your even newer 'over 60s topic' in the not too distant future.

Goodness me, MNHQ, please listen to the OP and send us all to a dark and lonely corner of MN ...... NOT!

ImperialBlether · 14/02/2015 16:03

One advantage might be that you don't see those threads where the OP is talking about her MIL as though she's ancient and incapable and you realise that she's younger than you. Or me.

Marshy · 14/02/2015 16:03

Is there free tea at the cinema? I've been missong out. What if it's 50SoG? They can't be expecting the over 50s to be going to that

KneesOfTheBee · 14/02/2015 16:04

A special section where you don't have to remember name, details or where you put things.

Actually, I'm quite warming to that idea. We could have regular quizzes where you don't have to remember anything to get a point.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 14/02/2015 16:05

If what you want is a nice place where it is forbidden to say anything that isn't kind, gentle and supportive and nothing sharp is ever said, there are places you can go and yeah, why not ask mn for a topic like that, it doesn't hurt to ask. I can guess what they'll say though.

However, how do you know how old posters are? How did you arrive at the conclusion that people you consider unpleasant are under 50 or that when people turn 50 they become nice people if they weren't before?

Surely a nasty 49 yr old becomes a nasty 50 yr old? I don't understand what age has to do with it.

KneesOfTheBee · 14/02/2015 16:06

We will all wear rose tinted specs so that we can say how good it used to be.

FruChristerOla · 14/02/2015 16:06

Free tea at the cinema? I'd rather have a free Wine or Gin at the cinema Grin

KneesOfTheBee · 14/02/2015 16:07

You bring your own gin in your shopping trolley Fru Grin

Pagwatch · 14/02/2015 16:08

My friend helped out at the free tea screening once. She said it was like Lord of the Flies with popcorn.
They lied pushed each other and cheated for refills .

AnyFucker · 14/02/2015 16:10

I will soon be in your category, op

Where do I sign up for the personality transplant ?

QueenTilly · 14/02/2015 16:12

This thread has made me quite sad. My grandmother led a really isolated life due to mobility problems. She would have loved the internet and she would have picked up how to use a computer very easily.

She would have loved mumsnet.
I'm not sure it would have been reciprocated.

Marshy · 14/02/2015 16:13

You don't have to AF. I believe you already meet the criteria being placid as you are Grin

Sparklingbrook · 14/02/2015 16:14

I am too young to go into the Over50sNiceMumsnet bit. Sad
