Hi all,

As you know we have launched the new mobile site, we know it's a big change and we are still very keen to get it right with your help. This is very much a version that will evolve with your help as part of the testing process.

There have been a few glitches that have/are being ironed out and the HUGE thread has nearly maxed out, so we thought it best to start a shiny new one.

We know change is tricky but, as with most things MN, we are all ears and happy to look at any feedback you have on ways we can improve the new site.

Thanks all Thanks

Device: Samsung Galaxy Tab 3
OS Android Jelly Bean 4.1
Browser: Google

Improved compared to when this was first rolled out!
However, this thread will only load as the full thread, ie nearly 1000 posts, and I've checked my settings on Customise, I have it set to 25. I've no idea how to change it back. As a result it's horribly slow to respond.

I still can't see a Bookmark option (admittedly I never could, but I just assumed this was only available on the desktop site. I've checked & can't see it there either.)

TIO has improved, thankyou! Although the new post counter is still stuck on 18.

OMG it's now reverted to pages, woo hoo!

ThunderHeart · 22/08/2014 22:59

Yeah - I wanna know about Lweji's questions too!!!! Grin

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 23:04

Mine still isn't showing pages :(

pottypeppa77 · 22/08/2014 23:20

Please make the new mobile site go away. It's awful. I don't want to be forced to look at an advert at the top of my screen constantly. I'm seriously considering giving up mumsnet.

Me2Me2 · 22/08/2014 23:29

I don't mind change but the ads are awful. Along with the huge blue bar across the bottom of the screen there is hardly any space for content. Half my screen is useless now
I think I could tolerate one without the other. I imagine mumsnet wants the adverts (much as I cannot stand being flogged stuff everywhere I look) so get rid of the blue bar

I'm on an iPhone, safari browser

Me2Me2 · 22/08/2014 23:32

They take up half the screen when holding the phone horizontally, which is what I normally do as read mumsnet in bed. It's better held upright but the adverts are still offensive. Feels like MN has sold out. Sorry

violetwellies · 22/08/2014 23:36

Please, desktop makes my mobile freeze, I can't work out how to get rid of the add or that awful bottom toolbar, if I make the type big enough to see then the text won't fit the, screen - AND I CAN'T SEE IT ANYWAY COS THE FUCKIN ADD AND PISSING STUPID TOOLBAR ALSO GET BIGGER.
And, breathe

MultipleMama · 22/08/2014 23:54

Samsung S3 Mini
Latest Antroid and Chrome.

Don't know if it's been fixed or not as someone has said her's has reverted back to pages, but mine is still showing all the posts in one long, long page! :(

Cinnamoncookie · 23/08/2014 00:10

Samsung Galaxy S (the first one, yes, 4 years old and a bit steam-powered now)
Android version 2.3.3
Default android browser

(Am posting from laptop, can't bear to post from phone)

Screenshots attached, in the default android browser I still don't have the drop-down arrow with the customise option, and have three empty circles at the top. Also have got coloured squares at the bottom instead of the social media icons, which was amusing when I saw them - thought you were getting all modern art and we had to guess that FB was dark blue, twatter was light blue etc. I cleared cache etc before checking, so it isn't a hangover from before bugs were fixed during the day.

I've downloaded Firefox, which does fix the problem drop-down, circles with pictures etc, but is incredibly slow to load pages, even on wifi, so I'm reluctant to use it.

I can't upload pictures (eg screenshots) from my mobile to the site, but then I couldn't on the old mobile site, so I always assumed that was my phone Grin.

Regarding the wish-list, I would definitely like the 'skip to page x' option at the top of the page, please. At the moment I have the default set to show 1000 messages, but it means a lot of scrolling and crossed eyes. (I hang out on the Swagger Inn threads which get to 1000 rather often Smile)

On my desktop site, the OPs posts are highlighted in the darker green, and my posts in the darker lilac. I'd like to have the option of those two colours on the mobile site, as I like to scroll quickly down a thread and see if the OP has come back to update. The very pale pastel highlight I find very easy to miss when scrolling, the darker colours were really useful.

The blue options bar has a tendancy to jump to the middle of the page and stay there, generally right over the post I am trying to read ...

That's all for now, will post again if I think of any more.

I have to press the post button twice to post.

Cinnamoncookie · 23/08/2014 00:18

From the Bugs, Glitches and Dislikes list where feedback was requested :

Original post no longer at top of paginated pages low priority but on the list for discussion

  • I would definitely like this back, please

Lack of navigation at the top of the page - next/previous buttons please keep the feedback coming

  • Yes please

no 'All posts on one page' button please keep the feedback coming, but you can do this via customise under the sub-menu. (NB you must be logged in to see the sub-menu: it's under the downward-pointing chevron under the three main icons in the top right of the page)

  • I would definitely like the option for this without faffing about in drop-downs. Don't want to set every thread as View 1000, but sometimes good to load an entire thread to read without worrying about 3g connection.
Snapespotions · 23/08/2014 00:33

I agree, the pale colour highlights for OP's posts and my own posts aren't at all easy to see (I'm on an iPhone 5c, using safari).

I must admit though, it's improved a lot since yesterday. I was really ready to flounce! I'm so glad that TIO is working now, but my new post counter is also stuck on 18 for all the threads.Confused

MultipleMama · 23/08/2014 00:48

Samsung S3 mini
Latest android
Latest Chrome

So, I thought I had my pages back but when I click on a thread the whole thread is on one page and it's only after I post something that I get page options...

FastWindow · 23/08/2014 03:46

It all looks horrible. How can any of you usuals be OK with this? Am I the only one going wtf still? Please, usual anyfucker Maryz have you all thrown the towel in?

FastWindow · 23/08/2014 03:54

Well, I used to feel as if I were telling to someone. You know, like a real life forum.

Just as well I'm not suicidal. But the new mn? Probably losing quite a few people in need.

FastWindow · 23/08/2014 04:11

talking to someone. But it's taken me fully ten minutes to find my last post... God help someone trying to find some real help.

MN - WHAT The. ACTUAL.

MelonCauliflower · 23/08/2014 07:04

My main issues were with usabilty (if that's even a word) but all the main glitches seem to have been sorted so I've been able to MN my mobile as usual. This is obviously a huge relief and DP is grateful that I'm not interrupting his telly watching - thanks to MNHQ and techbods for addressing it.

Having said that, whilst I'm sure I'll get used to the aesthetics, it does seem a lot more impersonal and sparse. This is good when it's for a newspaper (see the pic of the Guardian website which is nearly identical) but I do think that the new layout isn't as warm and "friendly" as it was before.

Will these changes be rolled out to the desktop version?

Still virtually unusable for me. Well done for doing this right before a bank holiday btw.

Think I've added a screen shot of the top of the page. Not sure what's meant to be there but I'm guessing it's not supposed to look like that.

The social media buttons are just coloured squares at the bottom. Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, android system.

When I load a thread from TIO it loads the whole thread in one go and never loads the whole thing so that's pretty useless.

I preferred the smaller font as it took less scrolling (and yes my thumb is aching more than usual) and I didn't want ppl reading over my shoulder.

And another thing

After posting it freezes and I have to start again from my phone's bookmarks to access MN again.

What a great big pile of poo!

cookielove · 23/08/2014 07:26

Erm hello, I realise that it's all change change change the laat couple of days, I'm on an android, and I can't open threads I am on anymore. I can see them but when I click on them nothing happens. Very very annoying!

TobyZiegler · 23/08/2014 07:36

I returned to the mobile site. It's slowly improving in function for the iPhone 5. But... It is still not a pleasant browsing experience. I can't get over the scrolling - too much scrolling.
