It's not just us who find Aptamil's campaign thoroughly shameful.

Have a look at what Baby Milk Action have to say about the Independent newspaper's decision to run their campaign as well .

toothache, strangely not all of us have been around for the last few days

I know its hard to believe

aloha · 25/08/2005 10:47

If you can't discuss how we feed our babies and their health on a parenting website, where can we discuss this? Why is it inappropriate?

Tinker · 25/08/2005 10:47

So what it's another thread about it?

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 10:48

Excellent idea toothache!

It's important to stick to issues of personal interest or else you can end up upsetting yourself unnecessarily, which isn't what MN is all about.

OP posts:
EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 10:48

so why is it inappropriate?

Confused

I can't believe discussing this makes women who bottle feed feel guilty does it?

Blu · 25/08/2005 10:48

Enid - you might find 10 mins catching up on the site boards interesting. Read the one about Tiktok and mears leaving, and the original thread about why are the good people at MN having the ad on the home page.

JoolsToo · 25/08/2005 10:49

10 mins? more like 10 hours

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 10:49

LEAVING [SHOCK]

caligula · 25/08/2005 10:50

I'm not letting it drop. That link shows the ethics of Milupa as an advertiser and re-inforces the suspicion that the helpline they have set up has a fundamental intention not to genuinely support breastfeeding, but to sabotage it.

I could give them credit for employing qualified midwives on their helpline because unless you know anything about bf, it is actually a reasonable assumption to think a qualified mw would be a suitable person to advise a bf mother. It's only if you've been through the hell of trying to get advice about bf from mw's, that you realise most of them aren't qualified to give bf support, so I don't blame Milupa for not knowing that.

I do however blame them for blatantly following a communications policy that seeks to get round the ban and sabotage women in the most cynical and ruthless manner. And this link is further evidence that that's what they're doing. And if you don't care about that, that's fine, but some of us do care and I'm not going to give it a rest. I've e-mailed the NCT about the helpline and the bad advice icklulu was given.

mumtosomeone · 25/08/2005 10:50

but this isnt about how we feed our babies!!!
ok going now!!
Cant help looking!!
I dont understand all the fuss myself!!!

Toothache · 25/08/2005 10:51

Milkymouth.... hmmm....letting your comment on the other thread about me go.... for now. Are you a new MN'er, or have you recently changed your name?

caligula · 25/08/2005 10:52

You've told us several times that you don't understand the fuss.

Carry on not understanding if you want.

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 10:52

I've also written to the Independent telling them that I won't be buying their paper anymore and also told them that this is a hot topic on MN.

OP posts:
mumtosomeone · 25/08/2005 10:53

just to add...look at how much publicity milupa are getting from us!!
they are on to a good thing!!
Maybe thats why we should let it drop.
How many would have bothered to look if these threads hadnt popped up?

mumtosomeone · 25/08/2005 10:54

thanks caligula I will

edam · 25/08/2005 10:54

Thank you Milkymouth. Your post is both relevant and interesting. Don't let people put you off posting. They are missing the point. And if they don't like it, they don't have to read. Let them go off and start their own threads if they want active conversations full of other stuff.

Toothache · 25/08/2005 10:55

Pretty sure I haven't been nasty at all today.... yet.... so I don't understand your sarcy comment Caligula. Talk about inflammatory, I was actually having a wee joke .... you know.... my posting name is "toothache"... so I was going to get my "teeth2 into something else. Hmmm... I think there are hackles raising on this thread already. Not mine.... feel to shitty to care.

No I don't understand why you lot feel the need to carry this on when it's been done to death. I'm not the only MN'er commenting along those lines.

milkymouth · 25/08/2005 10:55

A pleasure Edam.
I'm not getting drawn into aggressive discussions. It detracts from the issue, doesn't it?

OP posts:
caligula · 25/08/2005 10:57

Toothache it wasn't directed at you but at mumtosomeone

QueenOfQuotes · 25/08/2005 10:58

I agree with mts - the longer this issue gets rehashed (as that's all it is) and the more threads we start with "Milupa" in it, the more hits Milupa are going to get on their website - and "potentially" more people actually USING Milupa because we've pointed out their webiste.

Milupa are going to be rubbing their hands in glee at the number of click thru's they'll have been getting from here!

Toothache · 25/08/2005 10:58

Ooops sorry Caligula!

mumtosomeone · 25/08/2005 11:01

thank you QoQ. someone has actually taken note of what I have said and thought it of value!

JoolsToo · 25/08/2005 11:01

is milkymouth a 'leaver'?

not that it matters - just curious

snafu · 25/08/2005 11:01

I don't understand why the people who are bored of this subject can't just start their own threads on subjects they are more interested in, and leave those of us who would still like to talk about various aspects of this to do so.

Seeing a thread on active convos doesn't actually do you any harm you know, and every time you post to say how annoying it is, all you do is bump it...

EnidfromtheVILLAGE · 25/08/2005 11:01

sorry

but its crap that people are going to be so intrigued by Milupa they will end up buying it

its a rubbish argument - I'll rehash it again and again if I want to
