Just thought we could start a shiny new thread, as the old one is getting so long. Anyone care to join me?

But dd is squawking so can't actually write anything... Back later to post photos of back carries and my new babyhawk!

thanks for that guys!

CMOTdibbler can u point me in the direction of places to get them? everywhere i have looked doesnt have much choice.

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/06/2009 00:31

TheNatty, You can get Toddlerhawks direct from Babyhawk but I am a bit wary ever since it took three months for them to send a custom Babyhawk to someone I know. However, other people have been happy with the service since.

I got my Babyhawk from Big Mama Slings. You can also get them from Slingjax and Snugglensnooze.

CMOTdibbler · 08/06/2009 08:23

I bought one of mine from UKBabywearingSwap which is a second hand group on Yahoo - great for trying them initially as if you don't like them you can resell for much the same. Natural Mamas also have a second hand forum

Natural Connection seem to have a good selection of new THs in here

I bought the other direct from BabyHawk, and it was delivered in 2 weeks. I needed the XL straps, and they are hard to come by otherwise.

Hi,
I'm new to all things slings and wraps but was given a Close baby carrier by a friend when my ds was born. I find it comfy and great when I first put it on but within 10 minutes he has slipped from chest level to near my belly button ending up kind of scrunched at the bottom
I make sure it is as tight as is comfortable for both of us and I am using the front carry where he is facing me.
He is 13lbs and 10 weeks, any idea what I'm doing wrong?

MoominMymbleandMy · 08/06/2009 21:21

ceb80 I have never tried a Close but it does sound as though it is too loose. If you post on here someone is bound to know what to do.

ceb80 · 09/06/2009 10:16

Thanks Moomin, will have a look but have never heard of half the things they're talking about! Seems like another language

foxytocin · 09/06/2009 17:42

ceb, if it has been washed it sounds like the rings were put back on incorrectly. i've never used one but a few months ago another poster had the same problem afai remember.

NormaSknockers · 09/06/2009 18:09

Sorry to barge in, could anyone recommend somewhere to advertise a Mai Tei (aside from eBay)? I've listed it on the Slings section on the for sale but doesn't seem to be that busy in there.

TheNatty · 09/06/2009 18:29

im after a mei tai.. how much and what make?

NormaSknockers · 09/06/2009 18:44

It's by EasySlings & is cow print ponyskin, piccie here £35 posted

TheNatty · 09/06/2009 18:45

NormaSknockers · 09/06/2009 18:47

You can, yes

TheNatty · 09/06/2009 18:50

erm will get back to you, waiting on my surestart grant, going to call them tomorrwow and hassle them.
if you find a seller in the mean time do sell it

NormaSknockers · 09/06/2009 18:59

Ok, probably going to have to resort to eBay as need it gone really.

llandb · 12/06/2009 00:03

Oh what a lovely thread - hello everyone; I'm llandb and I'm a sling addict
Slings saved my sanity and LO's tears; I thought they were just a nice alternative mode of transport but oh how much I had to learn. Now I'm hooked, so I'll be lurking here lots!

FruitynNutty · 12/06/2009 10:09

Hello there everyone

Can I ask a question? I have a Babasling (awful) and a Moby (love it) but I'm thinking of selling these and getting a Close. Is this a wise decision? The only thing I hate about the Moby is all the material, I can't seem to take it off/put it on without getting the ends of the material caught up around my legs and I virtually fall over it. Otherwise it's fab.
I'm getting rid of the Babasling for obvious reasons! (who the hell invented those things anyway?)

So, is the Close just as comfy as the Moby? Is there as much material?

TIA! Fruity

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/06/2009 19:23

Hi Fruity, how old is your LO? It might affect your decision.

FruitynNutty · 12/06/2009 20:18

He is 12 weeks old

Once it's tied on it's fine. Once it's on I wrap the ends round the back then bring them around the front to tie. So the ends go around me twice iyswim? If I just tied once at the back (rather than bring around the front) then the ends would be about a meter and a half long. Does that make any sense?

Hi ladies

Just bookmarking

MoominMymbleandMy · 12/06/2009 23:54

Fruity, I can't comment from personal experience because I've not used a Moby or a Close.

But two or three people who told me they didn't like stretchy wraps because they felt they were drowning in fabric, said very good things about the Close as an easier if less versatile alternative for a baby under 6 months-ish.

FruitynNutty · 13/06/2009 07:46

Yes exactly loopymumsy. It's lovely once it's on but there is just so much fabric I really do feel like I'm drowning in it when I'm unraveling it and putting it on. I gets all over the floor and I end up treading all over it. Not ideal when at a playgroup where the floor is all sticky and dribbly

I'm not breastfeeding so I don't need it for that. It's literally just to carry him in. I'd like it to last as long as possible though. He's very long for his age - on the 91st centile, but his weight is on the 50th so that's average (if that makes a difference to the sling?)

misdee · 13/06/2009 07:51

i would be inclined to go for a MT or a woven sling at that age. i couldnt get on with the close.

and just because i like these pics, this are our latest BW pics here adnd i189.photobucket.com/albums/z171/misdee1980/084.jpg and last one
