Just thought we could start a shiny new thread, as the old one is getting so long. Anyone care to join me?

But dd is squawking so can't actually write anything... Back later to post photos of back carries and my new babyhawk!

a fwcc is my main staple,. but managed a bwcc earlier which i was v v proud of

Juwesm · 18/05/2009 17:51

Any experience of a simple cross carry like this? It looks a bit easier for a beginner (though I haven't had a proper try with FWCC yet, so could be wrong).

misdee · 18/05/2009 18:05

i like this one nice and simple

misdee · 18/05/2009 18:08

also a favourite

babyphat · 18/05/2009 18:08

this one is good too

i had no luck with cradle hold, couldn't figure it out and dd didn't like it.

Juwesm · 18/05/2009 18:44

Oooh, thanks for those vids. They make it look so easy.

Babyphat I love the look of that kangaroo care one!

Desperate to get the hang of this, as at the moment I am a prisoner of the sofa with a baby that hates being put down, and won't sleep if he's not curled up on Muumy!

Juwesm · 18/05/2009 18:44

Or even Mummy!

misdee · 18/05/2009 20:52

been playing with my didy all day

Soph had a wale of a time. though i think she may have left me some milk-sick in my hair

she kept peeking over my shoulder making me laugh

going to perfect these carries over the next few weeks

babyphat · 19/05/2009 08:40

oh sweet! am so jealous, i love wrapping but can't seem to keep my wriggler in with a bwcc, although will persevere in case am doing it wrong.

OP posts:
misdee · 19/05/2009 20:49

i can rarely keep her still long enough for a bwcc. i have to have dh spotting me and stopping her wiggling

newlark · 19/05/2009 20:57

babyphat - have you tried the secured high back carry (SHBC) - I find it easier to tie securely and ds's arms usually stay in

video here

Evening ladies!

I have told my friend who has twins that i will get her babywearing even if it kills me and she has finally agreed that it might be a good idea, particularly as one of the babies is more in need of cuddles than the other etc etc.

I am tempted to point her in the direction of a Babyhawk as this was my first "serious" carrier and i absolutely loved it. She has a Mothercare own special which she says is awful (unsurprisingly!) and i told her that she really shouldn't be put off by these awful type of carriers because there are better things out there.

However i'm also tempted to show her the ways of the wrap but i dont want to make babywearing too daunting for her.

Perhaps i should drag her to a sling meet so she can have a go with different carriers??

Hmmmmm......

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/05/2009 23:18

Slingmeet, definitely! And I think a Mei Tai is a really good idea because they're so easy to master.

Wraps can be pretty intimidating to a newcomer to slings, especially one who isn't sure about the idea.

You can corrupt her thoroughly later!

misdee · 20/05/2009 07:52

start her with a MT

then get her into wrapping.

babyphat · 20/05/2009 08:19

thanks newlark, what a cute dad! that is like the one i've been doing but couldn't get the leg support right, the guy there tied it over rather than under the first leg which might help, thanks again. i will persevere...

strangely, my lo is not wriggly when wrapping, v cooperative, just that once wrapped, she can work her arms out of a regular bwcc and lean backwards

Hi miamla, I have e-mailed you .

Hello to everyone here, I only recently found this thread and have been looking at all your links.

I have been using a Coorie fleece pouch since my baby daughter was born six months ago, but it's too warm for this weather and she's a bit too snug in it too (she loved the cradle carry and would go straight to sleep as soon as she was in it ).

I have a Calin Bleu wrap which I'm trying to master, it seems to get twisted very easily when I'm trying to wrap, I've also got a Kari Me but I don't use it much as the material is really warm. I'm going along to my local slingmeet in June, so I'm hoping that the experts will be able to help me wrap properly.

I'd love to try a Mei Tai as they look so easy to put on .

RGPargy · 20/05/2009 13:54

I think you are right. I will try her with an MT. So - who's got a cheap MT for sale?!!

Welcome Browny

babyphat · 20/05/2009 21:27

i've got this one which i would sell for £25 - was £56 new and is hardly used, but i didn't get on with it myself, i prefer padded straps - i think this is similar to a MT wrap conversion but i could be wrong.

babyphat · 20/05/2009 21:27

oh forgot to say the colour is no.37, it's lovely!

RGPargy · 21/05/2009 12:23

Hmmm thanx babyphat. Not sure that this will suit her. Thanx anyway tho.

fruitcorner · 21/05/2009 13:55

Hello! I would like to buy / hire toddler patapum or similar carrier - does anyone know where I can buy one in a shop either in London or in Cornwall?
Thanks

misdee · 21/05/2009 14:13

i have a nasackbaby butterflies which i could part with for a small sum. its very well used, but in good overall condition.

MoominMymbleandMy · 21/05/2009 23:15

Hi fruitcorner, I'm afraid I don't know of a real life shop but you can hire a Toddler Patapum from here
Slingjax is a very reputable sling seller, by the way.

babyphat · 22/05/2009 08:54

blimey the lady in that picture looks really uncomfortable! not a very good ad for the sling

That's because her LO has just dropped something nasty down the neck of her top.
