Just thought we could start a shiny new thread, as the old one is getting so long. Anyone care to join me?

But dd is squawking so can't actually write anything... Back later to post photos of back carries and my new babyhawk!

Definitely bugger annonymity, compliments are much better!

babyphat, have you tried a Calyx? They are amazingly comfortable.

babyphat · 01/06/2009 10:11

Moomin, they do look better - on the Angelpack the chest strap was pulling whereas on the picture there everything looks snug. where do you get them? i found a US website when i googled and the returns policy looks good, so might give it a whirl if the ergo doesn't suit.

not quite as pretty as my Angelpack but looks aren't everything! off to check £-$ exchange rate!

I don't know if this has already been done, I can't find any mention of it. How do you all cope with the sun using slings? DS is a hat refuser and we've got to walk from one end of town to the other today. Even if I cover him in sun cream I think it'll be too much sun. I can't think of any other options apart from leaving the patapum at home and taking the pushchair with baby burka sunshade. DS hates it so it won't be a fun day all round.

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/06/2009 11:25

Babyphat, the only place to buy new ones is the MamabyDesign website. They are having a sale of last season's patterns though.

But you can pick them up secondhand for around £60 on NaturalMamas and the UK Babywearing Yahoo swap group.

Do check the sizing very carefully before you buy because they come in three sizes to fit the wearer, NOT the baby. They are Petite, Standard and Large and there's also some Old Standards around - these are larger than the current standards.

littlelamb · 01/06/2009 11:27

I am taking the pushchair too Ds wil not keep a hat on. I think I'm going to go shopping for some extra strength elastic to sew on all his hats and hook them round his big ears
Am beinning to think black for a carrier wasn't the wisest move. Add to that the lovely sunburn on my back and I think I'm excused from carrying for at least a week

MoominMymbleandMy · 01/06/2009 11:27

Drowninginclutter, I use a parasol! You can buy some lovely Edwardian style ones on Ebay.

drowninginclutter · 01/06/2009 11:30

I'm having a few second thoughts about black as well.

Wouldn't be a problem if this was a normal summer as I've perfected my umbrella angle to cover DS in the back carry. Rain is so much easier...

drowninginclutter · 01/06/2009 11:32

X-posted, if I can do an umbrella I'm sure I can do a parasol. Don't think my umbrella has much UV protection so shopping for a proper parasol sounds like a good idea

babyphat · 01/06/2009 11:59

thanks moomin, i want to buy new so i can return if it doesn't suit, i might get one, thanks for the sizing tip

i have the same problem with a hat refuser - was wondering about balaclavas am going to try elastic but a parasol sounds great!

Parasols!

Mine is the Edwardian style one in red.

drowninginclutter · 01/06/2009 21:15

I love them! I think I'd have to go for a folding one even though they're not quite as attractive, already have way too much stuff to lug about.

ChairmumMiaow · 03/06/2009 20:28

we've solved the hat refusing issue with some persistence "no, hat on head" and by wearing hats ourselves. DS seems to like it now!

RGPargy · 05/06/2009 17:20

Just bookmarking ladies

CMOTdibbler · 05/06/2009 19:38

So, how many times do you think I was stopped while going round M&S this afternoon with a snoring 3 year old on my back in his Toddlerhawk ? 5 times ! Once was as someone was concerned that he might have trapped his arm (cos he wouldn't have moved it or protested obv) and the rest were cooing. I miss that he really only goes in the sling to sleep now

DS will keep his hat on OK - we have a very stretchy one from Lion in the Sun, but I wish I'd thought of a parasol

TheNatty · 06/06/2009 10:10

hey guys!
i need a carrier for my toddler, she is 2 years, about 2 stone now.
have been using a ring sling, but she is too heavy now i want a back carrier ideally.
new baby due next month, so wanted something quick to use as she will be walking, and wanting to rest, then walking again!

been looking at mei tais, but the choice to so overwhelming!
dh prefers the ones with plastic clips as they look stronger (men!) like the patapum, but i want something pretty and thin as it will be hot this summer and by the winter she prob wont need it as much.

ideas?

which is most comfy in you opinion? cos DH prob wont wear it often so i suppose i should discount his clips thingy lol!!

was looking at babyhawks, would they do a 2 year old do you think? then new baby could use it once big enough..

I had a Babyhawk with DD and they are really really comfy. However by 12 months she was a bit too big for it so i wouldn't go for a babyhawk if it's for a 2 year old as well.

I moved on from the babyhawk to a Bamberoo, which is absolutely divine, although it's a little more expensive than a Babyhawk!

JoPie · 06/06/2009 21:02

I use my babyhawk for my almost 2year old, but then he's not very big. They are quite roomy though, with the headrest and all.
Its bigger than a baby patapum by a mile, also bigger than an angelpack.
I can't recommend a babyhawk enough, I've tried many different carriers and always go back to my babyhawk. Though I do adore the APLX as well, wish I hadn't sold mine on!

CMOTdibbler · 06/06/2009 21:16

Get a Toddlerhawk, then you can use your RS until the baby is 1, then roll the waist of the TH to make it shorter for them.

My DH likes the TH as he says that clips are single point failure, knotted straps aren't. Its also more adjustable.

If your DH is biggish, get XL straps - mine is 6'3, 50" chest and the XL straps still let him do a back carry with a big 3 yr old and a lexi twist.

You can see DH with the TH on my profil
