Just thought we could start a shiny new thread, as the old one is getting so long. Anyone care to join me?

But dd is squawking so can't actually write anything... Back later to post photos of back carries and my new babyhawk!

heck no! i make the tiniest ties with just the tails. i can do an FWCC with the old Eva i have. it is 3.7m and only the very tips allow me to tie it.

RGPargy · 15/05/2009 16:24

Ah, thanx Foxy! Cant believe you can do a FWCC with 3.7m!! Are you very petite?

foxytocin · 15/05/2009 16:26

thin and small boned. avg height.

only just but i live it cause i can go out and no ends touching the ground. i also have no ends touching with a 4m.

foxytocin · 15/05/2009 16:26

i love it.

RGPargy · 15/05/2009 16:33

Fair enough!

I dont wear my wraps out in public generally, unless i know i'm not going to unwrap DD lol. Having said that, i should be braver when out with DD as i can wrap pretty well now so wrapping in public shouldn't really be an issue for me these days! I normally sling DD about with a MT so it's not really that much different to slinging her around with a wrap!

littlelamb · 15/05/2009 17:21

I miss wearing ds in a wrap. I saw two women with Closes today that were wearing them wrong and I sooooo wanted to go and help them but it would be a bit wierd. They looked like this but with a baby dangling inside

Miamla · 15/05/2009 18:21

eurgh littlelamb! I wished you'd put a warning in your post re that link!

guys...don't click on it if you're eating your dinner

babyphat · 15/05/2009 18:52

haha littlelamb that was not what i expected! know what you mean though, i saw something similar the other day (but the baby was titchy enough that it probably didn't matter for her back iyswim).

i have been v disciplined and not yet shelled out for a new sling...but think i have decided on an Angelpack - any reviews guys? i love the R&R ones but no sleephood, which is pretty essential.

i did find a wrapping technique for a wriggly baby - starts with a rebozo style tie then wrapping the rest if that makes sense, but it isn't anywhere near as comfy, the weight distribution feels all wrong. i will persevere though as i do love the wrap. the lunging really freaked me out though. anyone else got round this?

foxy, i have almost finished the babyhawk hood, am quite proud! will post a pic soon!

babyphat they look nice but very expensive, no? I know I keep harping on but there must be a huge mark up on them. I can make them for so much cheaper and still get a reasonable rate (£5) per hour for my efforts. I've got loads of lovely fabric in stock at the moment so the turn around time is quite quick and if you fancy it, you can chose a design to be hand-painted on. Mine have got padded straps, strap length can be personalised, sleep hoods, pockets for cash/mobile etc.
Anyway, have a think and if you want some more info email me on miamla @ hotmail . com and we can have a chat

RGPargy · 15/05/2009 22:51

Loopy - come over to naturalmamas.co.uk and you will see that many people have had sling strikes.

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/05/2009 12:50

Miamla, do you think you could post pictures of yours on the WAHM FSOT section of NaturalMamas sometime? I'm sure everyone would love to see them.

Miamla · 16/05/2009 18:10

moomin hmm, good idea but i'm a bit wary about joining another forum! this one already sucks the time out of me

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/05/2009 18:32

Miamla, I know exactly what you mean!

browny · 17/05/2009 00:44

Miamla, I'd love to see the wraps you make, I have sent you a message through m.net's Contact Another Poster feature and look forward to hearing from you .

Miamla · 17/05/2009 08:12

hi browny, I don't seem to be able to find the message from you. Try emailing me on miamla @ hotmail dot com

misdee · 17/05/2009 08:18

hello

i am loving my slings still, so is dd4.

i ended up ordering a connect last night for hols etc as got fed up in wales of all my strap ends dangling on the floor and getting grubby and wet.

i do tend to reach for my didy indio most mornings as lovely and snug for early morning chills, then switch to a MT later in the day.

babyphat · 17/05/2009 09:37

hi misdee, was it a good holiday? know what you mean with the straps, i have the same problem!

miamla, the thing is, i _hated) the ergo so am not certain whether a SSC will be my thing, am half expecting to try it, hate it, and return it. so i need to order from a company that has a returns policy, i couldn't/wouldn't order a custom from you for that reason. that said, if i get on with one, i can't see me sticking at just one so who knows...i would love to see your slings too, could you just add pics to your profile (or is that against MN rules?)

oh, and i'm not on natural mamas but was searching it for SSC recommendations and there was a super helpful post from someone named Rosie (in Aberystwyth iirc), if any of you guys are she, thank you!

misdee · 17/05/2009 09:40

it was a v wet holiday lol.

Miamla · 17/05/2009 17:36

misdee unfortunately wales does tend to be rather wet! did you have fum despite the rain?
nothing worse than damp straps though! i came up with an idea to try and avoid them so you've reminded me to get testing!

babyphat my demo one is due back this week (next week at the latest) so you could always borrow that if you fancy trying it. not sure if its against rules or not but i'll happily email you some pics

misdee · 18/05/2009 08:28

we had lots of fun

hopefully skeggy will be dry

Juwesm · 18/05/2009 14:23

Hello lovely slingy ladies!

Can anyone give me some suggestions on good carries for a 1-month old? I've got a Calin bleu gauze, but between us we can't seem to get the hang of it. Does anyone know of any good vids? I've tried the hammock wrap as per the leaflet that comes with the wrap, but he doesn't seem to like it, or similar cradle-hold type carries that I've found on YouTube.

newlark · 18/05/2009 14:57

juwesm my ds didn't like the cradle type carries and much preferred being upright right from the start - I used the "front wrap cross carry" position with a stretchy wrap from about a month old (with the legs tucked inside in a "froglike" position). He had mild reflux so I think the cradle type positions weren't as comfortable for him. Might be worth a try

Juwesm · 18/05/2009 15:20

Newlark He does like being curled up like a little frog, so will give a front wrap cross carry a go. Thanks!

Miamla · 18/05/2009 16:55

another recommendation for the front wrap cross carry. ds spent his first few months in it!
