What is a pervert?

I seem to recall two or three times in this bit of the board where folks have cruised by and used the word pervert, but when I have politely asked for a definition of the term/asked what they mean, the question has always been swerved. I have even been advised to google it, which to my mind seems dubious if not avoidant advice.

The term seems to be tossed around a fair bit, though usually I let it pass.

So what do the good folks of the sex board define the term as?

This is also an opportunity of course for those folks who have avoided questions to have their say and educate us.

Why shouldn’t she? The link was posted here on a thread. I looked too, I’m sure lots of people did. For me it was curiosity, knowing there are so many weirdos here to see who moved over.

Good god, why should women have to disable their PMs because of perverts with no self control? Whoever said that needs to take a look at themselves, putting the responsibility and blame onto women is disgusting.

There is a problem with men using this board for perversion. The answer isn’t to not look, turn off PMs, ignore, give the benefit of the doubt or deflect which is the option OP is using. These things make me very suspicious. Why are some posters so desperate to cover this up?

I didn't say they should have to, the common sense approach would surely be to report and the 'pervert' gets banned. This is what most people do with anything inappropriate online. Just basic online skills.

However if folk don't want to even see anything that may upset them, there is an option to disable pms. Not compulsory, just an option you see.

@Janiie No, I use PMs to chat to other women as I’m sure other posters do too. Men need to behave appropriately. All genuine posters or posters who claim to be genuine should be reporting all pervy posts. They don’t. Instead they respond and refuse to see the pervs. That makes me think they’re not genuine and there’s more pervs than genuine posters.

Because OP wants to know what a perv is. People have given examples on this thread and this is another. OP is struggling to understand what a perv is so this should help him understand. HTH.

@FordAnglia mumsnet does not age verify posters. Therefore, there may well be 16 year olds (and younger) here. And those posters can post here in the sex topic if they have been a member for more than 7 days.

Why would we hide this on a thread discussing the problem? My account was factual, the post is deleted so no one can respond. ‘Alleged’...did you think it was real?

I wrote a list of perv examples earlier in the thread. I don’t see why this shouldn’t be talked about on this thread with examples. The OP wanted to know didn’t he? Mumsnet posters have delivered! 👏 I missed the recent example but sounds like another perv to me and mumsnet obviously agree.

oo - snarky - truth is am often on a wayward tab when I swing/am prompted this way and it's hard to type anything involved without risk of losing stuff. also nothung wrong with giving othsrs a voice. have had snarky comments about my supposed lack of post, now one about my offer to post. wondering wuich alternative best/acceptable

There have been enough examples given on the thread to ensure everyone understands what is perverted on here, if they actually want to understand that is. Any faux confused posters or those delaying responses with waffle fade into the background when presented with other much more enlightening posts on the thread.

A very just summation

TBH it doesn't really matter what the dictionary definition of a pervert is; if a large number of women on a female-focused forum, where the vast majority of posters are women, don't feel able to use this board because of the - often correct - perception that a disproportionate number of the posters and lurkers here are men, including some/many who feel justified in sending unsolicited PMs, then this board is failing to cater for the forum's core demographic.

Personally I think it's disappointing - but sadly not surprising - that with the vast choice of places online to find wank bank material and like-minded friends, including some dedicated forums / sites with messaging facilities where users can openly advertise their willingness to receive chat requests, more men can't respect one of the very few female-centric spaces and restrain themselves to responding here only if a poster specifically asks for a male perspective. You don't have to be the dictionary definition of a pervert to put women off by displaying some of the unwanted behaviours many of us encounter in other spheres from men who don't understand or respect reasonable boundaries. Just because nothing actively prevents you from colonising the board doesn't make doing so the right thing to do.
