Brit School KS4 2024

Hi all,

I thought I'd start a thread for KS4 applications for Brit School as my daughter has her workshop and interview this week and I know we will both be anxiously waiting to here afterwards!

She's applying for Film and Media production strand as is really passionate about working within the film industry..

We have no idea what to expect at the workshop and interview at all!

I just caved and phoned the school. They said that they've just returned from a two-week break and we should have the results "soon". I asked if it would be this side of the Easter break, and her response was, "I hope so." I tried to press for specifics, but none were forthcoming. I asked if they could send out a general communication to everyone still waiting, and she said that they never gave a guarantee about when we would hear.

A bit frustrating, as it felt like the brush-off. But I can imagine they are fielding loads of these calls.

I should have asked, if they've just come back from a two-week break, why have all of the other strands heard (some of them two weeks ago)? But, as is often the way, I only thought of this after getting off the phone.

So the wait continues...

So frustrating. And VAD people heard THREE weeks ago! I just can’t get my head round why some strands - music and MT - take so much longer than all the others. It was the same last year too.

So then on the meeting day she just had to do the workshop and interview - they'd already seen all her artwork a month or so earlier so didn't have that to go through as well - I think the theatre and music stands saw them perform the same day as the interview didn't they?

Not sure but would explain why they were quicker on the decisions maybe? Though if IDD also had to submit a portfolio that theory wouldn't work!

Fmp also had to submit portfolios, and a report.
As we said, sometimes that no news is good news does work out for the best.

Still, a little bit of communication would stamp out rumours and speculation. Here's hoping we hear before next Thursday! And what we hear is good news!

Can I ask if the teachers at your children’s current schools have passed comment on whether they think your children should apply to/accept offers to Brit? I feel a teacher at my DC’s school has overstepped the mark in trying to convince my DC that their current school is the best option and that they should stay there if they were to get an offer. Apparently, they caused another student to change their mind previously.

Not this end, ive been quite vocal about the lack of options at my sons.school so i think they'll be glad to see the back of me lol!

No not from my daughter’s school, but they did not offer her the options she wanted. I think it’s best to weigh up what’s best for your child and the what you both decide. x

Music was the last strand to find out last year. It's hell on earth, I was told that because there is only 25 spaces and the amount of people to apply, lots of videos to watch and reports to go through. I feel your pain. I was at work when we got the email, I nearly wee'd my self a little bit 🤣 the wait is worth it. The school is sensational. Fingers crossed for you all ! X

Music people this feels like the longest wait ever 😅 I have just reread my sons Y8 report and am worrying/torturing myself that his full report from last year doesn't look as good as it could. His short report for Y9 is glowing...but that isn't what we were asked to submit.

Aw, I feel you. I have also been through the “report not good enough and will be the thing that stops DD getting in” self torture!

Yeah, in the interview they closely questioned my DS's attendance. It was poor this last term cos he had viral illness, broken wrist, new braces etc......bad timing!

I really thought we would hear today being the beginning of the week (MT)

Ive spent the whole day refreshing my emails! It’s literally driving me insane. We just need to know so we can move on with our lives. So hard when the kids want something so much 😩

They questioned ours too as it was 95%. But we explained why(injury during a sports lesson. And that nasty virus before xmas) and we got offered a place.
Have to admit..i found my email in the junk whereas my hubby got in as normal!

He's on FMP. And it took the month for us to hear.
Hopefully you should know before the Easter hols (although Brit arent on their break at the same time are they).

Their Easter break is this Thursday-Monday. So if we don’t hear by tomorrow, we won’t hear until next week Tuesday at the earliest 😭. Or maybe even the Wednesday, as the Tuesday is an inset day for them.

I’ve been hopeful and constantly checking every week day for weeks now but I’d somehow convinced myself that today was gonna be the day! And now I’m wondering might we not hear till after the two week Easter holiday!!!

Music is out! My DC has a place, sooooo unbelievably proud of them! Despite my continuous refreshing of emails, they saw the email before me!
