Brit School KS4 2024

Hi all,

I thought I'd start a thread for KS4 applications for Brit School as my daughter has her workshop and interview this week and I know we will both be anxiously waiting to here afterwards!

She's applying for Film and Media production strand as is really passionate about working within the film industry..

We have no idea what to expect at the workshop and interview at all!

Music, reserve list for us, whatever that means.
And it's a particular nightmare cos we'd have to move if he was offered/took a place!

Doesn't seem to me like it's worth appealing.....?

Oh @Zanthe I’m so sorry, it’s awful to have to wait this long for that outcome. I hope it’s a reserve place. I read somewhere that someone on reserve got a place the day before term started once.

Musical Theatre is out - reserve list for us.

My son has also been offered a place for music - but I left my phone at home today - so hoping he sees it! Congrats to everyone else with a place and fingers crossed for anyone on reserve list.

I’ve just had the email and it’s a no. Jusy trying to keep it together and get ready to tell my DD. ☹️

We got reserves for MT too but with the amount they give out it’s hardly likely she will get a place😩

Sorry. I realised if I kept replying to everyone this thread would be very annoying! Huge congratulations to all those yes emails and big hugs for those that were not lucky this time. It’s so hard I know but there is so many other routes (although I know it’s very limited in year 10)… but I am believer in the right path finds you. And also my friends daughter got into Year 12 music 2 years ago the day before the term started!

Aw, thank you! I’m genuinely pleased for everyone that got in - such an amazing opportunity. And fingers crossed for everyone on the reserve lists. DD will get over it and is already looking at starting a new Saturday musical theatre class and planning for her post-16 application!

Perfect! Resilience is a huge part of this industry let’s face it! MT is so competitive too isnt it… that’s great she’s already planning new opportunities and I’m sure she will succeed in whichever way it happens 😃

I work in an area of entertainment, and our philosophy is always 'onwards' when things dont fall the way of our clients.
Its a hard business, and resilience is key. As is determination!
For us as a family, our current secondary school has failed my son since the start, but with no other option open for us, we saw it as a stop gap until we could apply for Brit. Thankfully our plan A worked, but we had plans B-D in the pipeline just in case.

Hi I’ve been following this thread closely for past few weeks. Firstly big congratulations to the kids that got a place -amazing achievement for all 😊
Sadly my DS got turned down for a music place - I just wanted to ask those who applied & auditioned for music - did you submit audio or video recordings prior to interview? If so, were you asked to or did you just attach them with original application?
We didn’t prior to the audition as we weren’t asked - I did send an email to BRIT querying it when he got his interview date but no response.
Most probably clutching at straws here but it’s just in my head (did he do everything he could etc)?
Any responses gratefully received 🙏

Hi @BJUV , I’m really sorry your DC didn’t get a place. My DC didn’t send any audio/video recordings beforehand, even though the attachment to the email invite to audition mentioned something about playing the same piece submitted in the online video but I assumed it was wrong/not applicable.

The only other thing my DC did apart from the solo performance was at the end of the interview, as the email invite said the student could share something they had made, so my DC played them a song they’d written/recorded at home with logic.

I think part of it is sheer luck to be honest, I’m sure your son didn’t miss anything. Who knows what they are looking for. My DC’s friend went for MT and she is absolutely phenomenal, just played the lead in their big weekend/after-school MT class show a couple of weeks ago and still didn’t get in. I would’ve said she was a dead cert so I’m baffled!

Hi been following the thread, can I ask did anyone get accepted for Musical Theatre?

We had a no yesterday, just considering if we should go through the appeal process.
anybody else considering?

I know of 4 that’s got in. 2 in catchment and 2 OOC. I also know of 5 reserves been given out but I’m sure there are lots more. I think if you appeal you have to have evidence of special grounds like perhaps a bereavement or something. Not 💯 sure though x

yes I think you are right about the special circumstances, and we def don’t have that.

I did ask about the reserve list and if the kids are a "number" on that list and was told that isn't how they do it. If a place becomes available they will look at all on the reserve list and they replace like for like i.e if you are out of catchment that is who they will replace you with. If it was a boy they will look to replace with a boy.

My DD was fine with it - she was happy she made the reserve list and will try again for 6th form. At least she knows she can now start auditioning for things now.

Thanks so much for responding. My DS’ interview was a bit chaotic as they were having IT issues - he had also asked to play a song at the end - they said they probably wouldn’t have time…he ended up playing partially whilst they were trying to sort the IT out - he felt they weren’t listening really or maybe they were, and weren’t impressed!! Whatever, it’s a bit of a heart break for him after a lot of hoping and hard work but there was never going to be a space for everyone. I hope he will continue but he’s going to have to get over it first like lots of the other kids that didn’t get the decision they wanted. Good luck to everyone 😘
